- Watch Koreans freak out at the reveal of Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational 2007 in Seoul South Korea. The crowd's reaction is just crazy when the Starcraft 2 logo appears on screen. The cinematic trailer was shown exclusively for the first time.
I was a study abroad student in Seoul at the time and was lucky enough to have my buddy take me to the event. I shot the video with my little Canon camera (no smartphones with camera at that time) from one of the last rows of the indoor stadium. That's why you can see the huge crowd and the awesome reaction so well. As far as I know, there is no comparable video. (Gaming) history was written here! Enjoy! - Hry

They gave them new birth when they acquired them, since they didn't have enough money to lift the heavy project such as WOW and activision helped them with that. This if I recall things correctly, but later on yes - looks like activision also was their undoing.

It was so nice of Blizzard to animate him saying "Hell, its about time" in Korean instead of just dubbing Korean. It must've blown the minds of countless Korean gamers.
In Italian it was: "Let's eh go!"

This was a real genuine surprise which does not exist anymore. This announcement was on the scale when the first iphone was introduced by Steve Jobs. Now we anticipate everything, there is no more genuine appreciation like it use to be. These Koreans were so happy that blizzard went so far to have the game completely translated to Korean. I know Koreans helped Starcraft to become so big and made them lots of money. Still blizzard introduced the game in Korea.

I played SC in 1998. I remember when I saw SC II trailer myself for the first time around 2008-2009 I lost my mind. To this day I remember the shivers, the trembling. Damn, it's been 12 years already, I can't believe it. Feels like yesterday.

same here. I still think about this reveal and that one where matt drow (or whatever the creative director's name was) came and showed us all the new units. I laugh thinking about how almost none of the units they showed that day are anything like what they are now.

So sad to see what Blizzard has become the past couple of years. Really miss when they used to put heart, dedication and passion into their games.
StarCraft 2 is truly one of the best games created on Earth. I'm hopeful that even if its not Blizzard, someday we'll see Starcraft 3.

I was in there, with my younger brother. At that time I was only 15. it was warm and cloudy, peaceful day. but that announcement changed everything. People gone mad and everyone yelled, talked about the next-gen StarCraft.
There's something about this trailer that fills me with joy. Nowadays every important game gets leaked before there's even a trailer. Back then the Internet wasn't established like it is now so it's most likely that most of the people there went without the faintest idea that SC2 was going to be announced with a trailer animated and spoken in their language. Everytime something in Korean shows up in the screen they all get super excited and that warms my heart like no other reaction does.
2022 and I still get goose bumps
After all, I feel like I should tell you something about the situaton there:
The whole stadium (!) was packed with (little) Koreans. Koreans usually don't interrupt during a show, so the noise they make is because they must be very, very, very excited! The one guy you can here talking next to me hat a kind of microphone, telling a live-radio whats happening. It was crazy, I can tell - but I'd miss it! Best - vodbot2

This has probably been the 10th time watching this but I still get tears in my eyes every single time.
13 years ago I saw this trailer on a potato PC in potato quality in art class in high school...needless to say that day I was in a daze in all my classes. I was so hyped cus it just came out of nowhere. Thank you for uploading this video as I come back every now and then to relive that moment with the audience. 13 years ago already, much longer than the wait I had as a kid for StarCraft 2 to come out after finishing Brood War. Please don't ever take this video down!!!!
I love how the guy in the background is narrating every scene to his friend on the phone. Remember this was before the era of smartphones and video chats. Love all the hype and excitement he's going through like everyone else did there! haha.

SC2 is now celebrating it's 10th year, and is doing quite well in the competitive scene.

jesus i feel old im 23 but damn i feel old i remeber being a kid so hyped about the concept art of starcraft 2 and the gameplay of the demo version and i remeber asking for starcraft i wanted starcraft 2 and low and behold i got a starcraft the original and brood war expansion set bro the disappointment at first was huge but i did say at first once i really dug into the game i loved it sure gameplay was not very smooth but it was still really fun to me. on occasion i still do play starcraft 2 i am a firm fan of the starcraft series of games.

I grew up with Star Craft and it's story, still remember how happy I was seeing this trailer for the first time when I was a little kid. Will always make me tear up, it's a damn shame Blizzard fell so far from those glory days.
Even in 2020 I get emotional remember this hype. Never seen anything like this.
I hope we can all still feel this way when starcraft 3 hits. Blizzard has destroyed so much of what made them a good company, hopefully they can deliver us this feeling again.

This is really cool to see. It makes me appreciate the effort that went into the audio and sound design of the English version that much more. Although still one of my favorite reveals of all time, it still feels about 100% less impactful without the marvelous voice of Mengsk in the background.
