The captain is one cool cat. Beautiful walk-around.
well he must be happy to hear that
Captain George is a remarkable guy. I bet he has some crazy stories from those Twin Otter days.... Yikes... I want to have a beer with him.... and he's a great host!
he is a really funny and cool guy at the same time love his charakter. even if you dont know him he gives you the feeling of a long time friend of yours
The captain seems like such a nice guy, I would love to fly with him!
he is one of the best love working with him
I will liked him too. What a nice man and great pilot
Captain George is a living legend, cool calm eloquent , he must be the "top gun" of cargo pilots 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes he really delivers thats true I like hiss style and attitude a lot : )
The flight crew in this video were great, properly friendly, and the amount of commentary and explanation from the captain was incredible, what a guy!

big shout out to the pilots,, thanks for letting us into your world!
Our pleasure!
Southern Air Transport used the DC-8 for hauling freight back in the day. They also had the largest fleet of Lockheed Martin C-130's as well as some Boeing 747 Air Freighters. SAT was quite the company to work for as many believe they had ties to the CIA. I was the manager of their C-130/L382-100 Flight Simulator Maintenance team at the HERCULES FLIGHT TRAINING CENTER which SAT acquired from LMT, in Marietta, Georgia. The Air Cargo haulers have always held a place in my heart, which brings me to watching your VLOG. Many Thanks for this interesting ride with this flight.
Thank you for this awesom comment Jack I had a blast reading the information and it was also new to me I hope my other videos will let you experince the same nostalgic feeling like this one.
Greetings patrick
The foil tape on the cowling clasp was a nice touch. #goodcondition
Cool video, my late father was part of the tech team for Alitalia that was sent to Long Beach for the delivery of the their first dc-9 cargo in 1968
Oh wow! that must have been an awesome but also exhausting job!
@@AirClipscom I, like many millions, flew a few on Alitalia DC9s. No aircraft has a more beautiful nose and front end. It looks glorious.
Great crew, & great memories too. I have about 10,000 hours in the -9, what a great airplane. Thanks for the safe trip.
Glad you enjoyed it love the 9 must be one of the best feelings beeing absle to fligh that thing
Still flying?
Flying as a very juniour may have tasted a little on the DC-9, what an icon in commercial aviation history! A grand lady who deserves her place in aviation history!
nobody will forget her she is so easy to handel and the design is one of the best
she got a place in everybodys heart by now
This is a great video. Definitely one of (if not) the best flight videos I’ve seen.
thats nice to hear always enjoy reading comments like yours thanks :)
Greetings Patrick
Thank you for this video. My wife and I served as missionaries at Tenwek Hospital between Jan. 1992 and July of 1995. I served with a community development project and my wife was secretary to the medical director. Our two daughters were born at Tenwek. This took me back to those days.
thats nice too hear Rick. Creating videos of old planes is also one of my favorits
Where is Tenwek. Thanks for the personal account
Flying a plane that old takes a lot of faith. I hope the company does constant maintenance because those birds probably need it a lot more often than newer planes do.
yeah they are always keeping a good maintenance and have really skilled engineers
Go check out Buffalo airways DC-3 DC-6
The first time I flew in a commercial airliner it was a Northwest Airlines DC-9 back in the early 90’s with the beautiful red and gray livery… forever in my heart!!
aussie herebut yes that Northwest livery was one of the best... they finally came to Sydney for a while
@@garyspeed8961 Mine was DC-8. The DC9 always had bad rep.
The NWA bowling shoe livery haha I miss seeing them. I used to fly with Midwest Express on their DC-9/80 series jets!
The coolest pilots I have ever seen
me too they are really funny
C9 Nightingale was the USAF’s premier airframe for aerovac missions back in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Same cargo door and first class passenger seats plus a litter bay. This was a great film showcasing the airframe’s versatile capability. Great crew demonstrating solid CRM. I miss flying her. Thanks for bringing back great memories as a young flyer. 👍
my pleasure , thanks for the information. This video was fun to creat and I like to hear that a professional like you enyojed it. For how long did you work as a Pilot ?
Great job captain 🥰🫵🥳🦘🇦🇺 safe flights friends 😊
First time on this channel, Nice video with perfect audio. Also Nice and professional crue.
Captain did a great job on the walk around and explaining different systems. That's one cool bird! Very interesting! Great video, all of you! Best wishes from the USA!
Thanks for watching!
Yes you can sense his enthusiasm. Perhaps a little over confident in declaring 'all good' on what looks like some very tired hydraulic hoses and other aged components.
Hats off to both flight deck crew members, very informative and professional
Thank you the team was really kind
I particularly enjoyed the views from the cockpit. Dar Es Salaam is a much bigger city than I ever imagined and Mt. Kilimanjaro's snow topped peaks were beautiful.
Totally agree I love this kind of view the snow peaks are looking awesom from above
very good pre flight by crew . good team work , very professional .. thanks for the ride and very informative video ! awsome guys !
Super Video! Super Crew! Thank you for sharing this experience! Fantastic!
Thank you very much! its my pleausure! Greetings Patrick!
So professional, humble and very good personality for the Pilot and Co-Pilot. And for you too Patrick. Success and healthy always for all of you guys
thanks stay healthy as well and I hope the other videos are pleasing you too :)
He explains everything so well, well done my brother.
Thanks for watching
Awesome crew and pilots. Keep them flying.
Awesome crew 👨✈️ beautiful aircraft ✈️
Thanks a lot! which is your favorit ?
Funny the jump seater mentioned USA Jet airlines as one of the last remaining DC-9-30 operators. That company is in my backyard, know the chief pilot well. Cool video, enjoy watch CRM from different countries. Nicely done
Oh wow! thanks for wtaching and the nice comment Perry!
greetings Patrick
That was a great video! I didn’t think at the start I would watch it all through, but it was interesting enough to keep watching. Kudos to the pilots and the Videoman and the handlers!
I appreciate that! love wtaching them work!
Goodness gracious me! Captain George flew the B767 for East African Safari Air .. I supervised check-in and boarding for their handling agent at LHR and looked after these flights many times. I remember their aircraft 5Y-CCC “Elizabeth” very well. What a surprise connection!
I was so stunned about this flight I love the DC-9 it gives me just a whiff of old times and doing a video like this one was for a long time on my bucket list. I only can recommend this experience for aviation geeks and hope I did you a favor with this video!
Awesome video Patrick, I really enjoyed the history of the aircraft. Another wonderful video
Yet another amazing film Patrick, well done.
You went really far to find this great bird! Really nice to watch, thank you!
What an amazing flight crew. The pilot is amazing.
Wonderful crew
really friendly work Environment
A testament to the amazing engineering and workmanship that went into this aircraft. Her days may be numbered, but it's awesome to have this video.
thats true I love watching this crew and creating this video was a blast
Well, DC-3s are still flying
All aircraft never cease to amaze but a 46 yo DC9 still going strong is wonderful to see.
Wow, a lot more work for the pilots to fly in the past! Amazed at the length of the check lists. Very impressive that a plane that old still works so well.
It doesn’t get much better than this this Patrick?! The professionalism, the best piece of analogue flying technology (1960s spacecraft heritage 😀) the end of an era on yet another of your Airclips masterpieces. Bravo sir! 👍
Thats nice to hear im always trying to improve my video quality.
do you have any improvment ideas ?
Patrick, I don’t think you can improve much more on what your channel offers. Although maybe more “behind the scenes”, looking at maintenance and repairs. Technical focus on the different systems explained and shown by engineers. All the stuff we don’t normally see. But keep it up with the legacy jets and props as they are truly living aviation history. Also, the pilots get to do proper hands on flying. Which I’m sure they always prefer 👍
Really enjoyed this video! Crew was outstanding. Love seeing these old birds still flying.
Glad you enjoyed it! I love the older planes it has a diffrent vibe to it. Everything is treally noisy, it smells like fuel and oil
legend captain, handflying as much as possible
I enjoy the art of handflying that he was so into it was a real pleasure for me :)
Great video. The DC-9 one of my all time favorites. Perhaps the first jet I ever flew. I will not post the year!
Its really special and It must have been a pleasure that you were able to fly such an nice plane.
How was the handling of the DC-9 ?
I met bush pilots from Kenya that flew T38 trainers in the USAF in 1980. They used to drop mail in the home country at 14 years old & by 19 & 20 I met them in Texas Sheppard air base. They learned to fly before driving. I was 24 after college.
My cousin is a retired FA at 83. She just had a groundhog day birthday. Can't be more vintage than that.
This looked like a very old plane. But it worked. Love all the meters. Very 'romantic'. 🙂Enjoyed this very much! Looking forward to the next part.
Glad you enjoyed it! they fell like nothing is able to destroy them and like they could fly forever!
Its a 1974 plane as explained in the beginning of the video.
It was built in 1974. Now 2023.
I Love Going Away Overseas With My Family Flying Airplane.
I love that too what is your favorit vacation spot ?
Man, I miss that turbo diesel engines! What a great plane to fly!
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite CZcams channel by far.
wow thats so nice to hear, Greetings Patrick
Great to see a analogue display, good old fashion flying.
I like the old fashion way the most as well !
From Single Engin Land to na MocroSoft Flight Sim Gamer Desktop user it's nice to see the real thing... Thanks
This guys having such a good time , I wouldn’t even call that a job but fun .
I always love to see when work is not only work but also a hobby ☺️

No problem! Thank you for the Donation!
greetings from patrick
Ver professional! I enjoyed the flight with the crew!
Nice to hear that you had a good time on board hopefully see you on the next flight ;) Greetings from Patrick
Hello Patrick. As a cargo B727 captain with Kalitta Charters II, I really enjoy watching your videos. You are always so cheerful and I can tell you throughly enjoy what you do.
In regards the question about the DC9 simulator: the last remaining DC9 simulator (which was located in Ohio), I understood it has been relocated to Sanford, Florida, and is currently owned and used by Aeronaves TSM Cargo.
USAJet has 2 operation DC9-30s as of December 12, 2022.
Hello andrew,
Im glad you kied the video and had fun watchingt it Thanks :)
I didnt know that USAJet had two similar ones thanks for the info.
Greetings Patrick
The crew said that apart from avionics the MD80 simulator is basically the same. So I think they train on that in Sth Africa.
top cabin crew
Wow these planes still fly? Great upload!!
Yes they do. I have the theory that the constant usage fomed an undestoyeable whole unit. haha :)
My uncle flew the dc9 before moving to the us and flying the 727 with Asia pacific before moving to the 757. After a little with the 757 me moved to Hawaiian airlines and flies the A330, he is still there today
I flew on one in 2022 to Hawaii on American airlines. I may have seen him. Hawaiian air was right next to our checkin & gate.
That was a lovely landing, great crew, the best. Enjoyed that, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it James I hope you will enjoy the other one as well
This is perfect! I love the DC-9! ❤
What a piece of document is this one … tvm for your efforts i really appreciated
Smart captain.
who ist your favorit captain from all my videos ? :)
Patrick,
Your vidéos and your gusts, or you as a gust by them, are so super to watch.
Tkank you so much for making us living this experiences off pilots lifes.
From LFPO fuel Depot.
Thanks Maniek ist a pleasure for me to creat this vidoes and make some true fans happy :)
How many cycles can the fuselage take? Is it unlimited?
A Delta Captain friend who was a carrier driver that has flown them all. He liked flying the short haul DC-9 best, because it kept him proficient. TD Atlanta
ah nice that is understandable. are you a working for an airline as well ?
@@AirClipscom No, he is a favorite customer of mine who is a very seasoned retired Captain. TD Atlanta
Great pilots!
thank you Markus! Greetings from Germany!
Nice job!!!
Thanks!
I am safe and blessed, My friend María Peña came to pick me up and take me home. Discharge from Skyline Healthcare Center in San Jose CA.
Well thats nice to hear and why was your friend in the Healthcare center ?
Flew in a Qantas Boeing 717.200 just 2 weeks ago, the prior MD 95. Still going strong, beautiful aircraft
We worked on C141 with crossfeed for fuel. We didnt think too much about balancing as sharing fuel in case an engine surged. And a transfer from one tank to the other would be necessary.
A co worker was balancing tanks one night on the ground an fell asleep briefly. When he opened his eyes one wing was near the ground. He realized it in a jolt and crossfed back the other way. Lucky nobody saw and nothing happened. That was close. I don't think modern jets use this method manually anymore. It's automated. I think.
Such a sturdy beast, many more would still be flying if it weren't for noise regulations elsewhere in the world.
yeah I like the sound but for people living close to an airport this could be a lot of stress
We got them for 30+ years in Helsinki! They were awesome
Resume: FO was the brain and the man of the flight. Haha
Leonardo Pedrosa - Just doing his job. 👍
Wonderful coverage. Very interesting to hark back to the early years of jet aircraft technology. Friendly crew and fantastic multi camera views and editing. How often can we get a cargo door opening and closing view! Or a view on top of a pallet while loading.
When Capt George is talking outside via his lapel microphone, the quality is excellent. BUT go to those horrid headset microphones and the quality drops dramatically with all that air popping noise that is very annoying and makes the clarity suffer. You would think that, in 2022, flight crew microphones could advance past 1940 audio quality.
yes that is something that also annoys me and I also had the idea to bring my own mics but the flight crew is not allowed to switch any of the Technics that is involved in the actual flying because of an emergency case
Old fashioned trim tab wheels too.
Really nice video as always, nice crew, nice aircraft👌🏽👌🏽
Thanks a lot! I hope you like the rest of my content as well :)
Love this! It has me considering getting my PPL. The last picture was my favorite!
Excellent presentation!
Thank you kindly!
Very nice video and crew 😍😍😍😍But mainwhell number 3 should be replaced because it´s under limit. You can even see the cord on it´s top. The nosewheel doesn´t look to healthy either
Is that metallic tape on a latch for the left engine cowling?
Metallic speed tape. Very strong. Covered bullet holes from Viet Nam. I fixed planes' cracked windshields, tires brakes. Avionics motors, flaps installation but hydraulics and another department dealt with aircraft skin sheet metal to replace panels when they need to be.
Thank you
You're welcome
That checklist was neverending... so much more to think about compared to modern machines.. wow
Yeah the old birds always take some more maintaining. Also you need to be really careful about potential technical difficulties
Captain was a great sport
Hallo Airclips.
Every time I watch these videos it reminds me of the greatness of our country and I’m certain to say that without the USA 🇺🇸 the rest of the world would not be the same .
Morgan Freedman said we had the best hundred dollar burger anywhere. He lands hear at times. It's he's half way point back home from the Bahamas..
Great preflight check. Very detailed (for a layman like me at least) explanations.
Thanks! 👍 They took it really seriously !
wow a lot of things to check, greetings from Mexico
Thanks for watching! Greetings from Germany!
Keeps the pilots busy, LOL! Greetings from Zimbabwe
Good to see some analog gauges again.
They are awesome I miss them a lot ☺️
This is real hands-on manual flying flying.
Yeaah it was a lot of fun to watch and shoot this content
Man she sure is a hand full to fly. Flew on one once from Montreal to fort laudable back in late 90’s. It was kind of tight in the seats, besides that it was a ok flight
yeah old planes are often not known for being very comfortable
Surprised to hear the engine noise, but realized this is a -30 version. I have flown on the flight deck of the MD-80 series and you can barely hear any engine noise
yes I could imagin that working on this one for a very long time could get really stressful
I can remember flying on DC 9 as a kid in the 70s and early 80s and the engine noise levels were louder than the B727s we often flew on. Had to yell at my brother just to have conversation..I loved it though..I was fascinated by all the mechanical sounds. Flaps retracting, landing gear..reverse thrusters...amazing experience..last time I flew one was in 2007 on a northwest airlines DC 9.. great workhorse of an aircraft..
Captain George Flow the Twin Otter amazing aircraft great video on the DC-9 i can just about remember flying on one from Manchester to Paris in mid 2002 your videos are getting better Patrick nice sticker are they for sale ?
This flight crew reminded me of the legendary 737 cargo from Poland on your channel about five years ago
Many thanks! You can visit my website for some stikcer. If you cant buy them send me a e-mail so I can send you some :)
How come that you operated a DC-9?
Am I the only one that would not go for a ride on one of these old toads ? Old is my point. Hats off to the crew ! 👍🏻
It is a one of a life time opportunity so I would take it every day !
Excellent crew management by the Captain and FO. One question: what is the mandatory retirement age for the DC-9?
Blessings from Puerto Rico.
awesome!
Glad you think so!
Nice planes were that when I flew with it for the first time around 1973 with KLM (i am a Dutchman 72 years), the time of the Caravelle (Air France), the BAC-111 from BA, the DC-8 also flew once from Amsterdam - London (was a stopover ) and with the Boeing 747 (100 I thought) to New York, the first types around 1976.
But a question about this DC-9, the window frames are quite rusty, isn't that a problem for flightworthiness? (Translate via Google)
Did those planes come from the US Navy? We used to fly those back in the 80s and 90s.
northwest/delta flew DC9s well into 2000s, dc9 50 the last.
Patrick, I'd love it if you could find out from the crews you fly with what the total hours and cycles are of the aircraft in each video? It would be fascinating to know how many hours and cycles some of these older aircraft are up to now. Love the videos, keep them coming!
Thank you for the nice comment! Great idea I will try to feature some more information in future videos! ☺️
NIC, 🇰🇪💪
Good video and nice crew. The thing that stood out to me were the avionics consisting of a stick on Garmin and not much else. The plane must have had some serious maintenance over the years at least I hope so.
Yes the kept the standard of this government plane really good maintained. On of the most stunning facts about this plane was that it had such a good shape
