There's a *proven* realization in the AA community that Herlock Sholmes was truly a master of the art in deduction. Every time the answer to a case was in visible investigations reach, sholmes was already infinitely higher and faster than you. In TGAA1-4p3, in the garrideb's household, sholmes is already *looking out and investigating the window* like an absolute planner. He knew the inconsistencies with the body, just as any deductive man could. And to explain why he gone as far as to keep his deductions wrong, he was teaching Ryunosuke to stay on his feet the whole time, slowing down the pace for those like him, for a good teaching lesson.
And that is why I like sholmes, he fits my arts perfectly.

@Lene Lampe All throughout the game, but especially the final case. If you look at where he is in the scene where he appears, it's always a key clue. Like how he's looking out the window where the knife fell for the case where the woman was stabbed in the back. And during the final case he's working his old partner which shows you his true intellect. During the game he intentionally says dumb things to make you (both Ryunosuke and the player) look closely and find the proper solution. The majority of his "deductions" are so wild there's no way anyone could come up with that. By saying something incredibly dumb, he hints that he wants you to find the proper answer. And if you say something wrong, he'll try to guide you to the proper answer.

I like how the developers learned their lesson from Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney
Having a smart detective would render the lawyer protagonists completely useless every time the detective is on-screen but at the same time, a dumb detective would probably annoy the players so the devs found a compromise; Herlock is actually smart but he only _pretends_ to be incompetent as a way of coaching the still-rookie lawyer. This way, players would still feel accomplished playing as the lawyer without making their companions feel useless

This was a technology that, at the time, was purely fictional. Forensic scientists reading his adventures realized that such a forensic tool would be invaluable, and set about making it a reality.
Additionally, Star Trek directly inspired wireless phones, Spiderman's villain The Kingpin used an ankle monitor before they were a thing and Wonder Woman's writer invented the polygraph.

Herlock basically spends the first 7 cases of GAA that he's involved in pretending to be a bumbling fool. The reason his deductions are always just slightly off is because he's used to Mikotoba being there to bounce off. Herlock has basically spent the last 10 years working on this case, so when it's finally time to bring Stronghart to justice, he drops the bumbling act and we get to see the real "greatest detective".

    • @Revoltine
      @Revoltine Před 2 lety +270

@@DeusExProcella The opposite actually. He's trying to teach Ryunosuke and Susato the "art of deduction". There's a lot of circumstantial evidence and a few decisive ones that point towards him just acting like a fool for most of the game (the Stradivarius and red hair incidents aren't contrary to this since it displays his impulsivity and being scatterbrained more). During serious moments, especially those where Ryunosuke isn't present, he does show his true face from time to time. His background actions in 1-2, him pushing Ryunosuke to be the locum student, guiding Susato on what to do for the events of 1-5 despite it being a criminal offense, the fact that he actually managed to figure out on his own half of the mystery behind the four names (he was partially wrong due to him not being privy of some crucial information ofc), and subtle hints of him already figuring out the whole truth behind 1-4 (he guides Ryunosuke towards the landlords and explicitly states that a single piece of evidence will make them talk), does not point out to someone who is, as you imply, someone dependent on a partner to deduce for him.
EDIT: You can actually work out that he's very much aware of his "deductions" being wrong whenever you give incorrect answers during the Course Correction segments. He actually makes a comment guiding you where the right answer may be for most of these scenarios. That and, Iris may be a prodigy but geniuses are born AND taught, which means her knowing and having mastered abductive reasoning (she displays this when you first meet her and she actually gets all of them right) heavily implies that she had a teacher, and a very good one at that.

I never thought I could assign himbo energy to a Sherlock parody, and that a lot of the brains was in the 8 year old companion. Finally playing through to conclusion, the steps make a lot more sense in context, even if the actual methods were weird and unfathomable. All that time I just thought he sine waved between being an amazing detective and a himbo, but actually it was just a clever ruse.
He could use some work on his impulse control though, buying every single form of typewriter he could find was a dumb maneuver, even if he spun it around to being really, really smart (using his own fame to turn them into memorabilia). Even I could think that if this disk was so important, and we needed a specific kind of player for it, we wouldn't figure out the correct one through trial and error.

This appears in my recommendation today. I don't know why you write the title Herlock Sholmes at first.
In the end I don't really understand what happened, but good God that Sholmes is truly a madlad. Even emoting in court against the bailiffs.

The entire thing about Sherlock showing up with EXACTLY the thing necessary to save the day might be a deus ex machina, but it definitely the best damn deus ex machina I have ever seen
This deus ex machina didn't solve anything, everyone in that courtroom knew all the facts, and there was no hope of stopping this colluding pseudo jury from carrying this out without recourse. All looks lost...
the only thing Sherlock did was made sure that every victory you had for the last what felt like 5 hours of deliberation counted. Rather than solve everything himself, he used a deus ex machina to made sure that the story mattered, and I think that is perfectly fine upon reflection.
My only issue was holograms? Couldn't Sherlock sneak the queen into the audience with like a fake mustache and glasses? It just kind of felt... out of place given the fact we had literally discussed that teleportation was unreasonable to have in a trial canonically 8-10 days ago.

I think the game just had low budget. Modelling the queen of england would have been too expensive and time consuming. Besides, Iris and Holmes both have previously showcased technology from the future and we’ve seen holograms prior in the ace attorney universe, so it isn’t as big of a stretch.
