- Keeping some projects small and manageable, just before we head into the more cosy autumn, spooky season.
It doesn't hurt that I finally got to use this glorious fabric that has lived in my stash for years either.
Projects don't all have to be big and ambitious or even symmetrical. You can do the thing. :)

I've long known that hand sewing is calming and soothing. Now I know watching someone else sew by hand is the same.
I am glad to hear it! I feel the same way.
That fabric is gorgeous especially with the smocking detail. I hope this shirt ended up as easy to wear as you hoped
It really is such a lovely fabric! I considered leaving it as a shawl for a long time.
At 7:15 I finally realized just how much like a cat purring your machine sounds when you use it - and quiet enough not to disturb Quality Assurance in their supervisory duties. 🥰
Oh, that is so sweet! I will hear it too now. 🥺
I love smocking! It's so cool that such a simple method can imitate the stretch of knit without elastic :) the rainbow was a perfect ending to the video
I agree! I knew it was elastic, but I had not seen just *how* elastic. A lot of fun for sure!
I so appreciate the little nods you make in your closed captions. Glad to know now the difference between chonky and the softest of snips :D
I am so happy people are enjoying them! Hopefully the sound effect comments are not too much.
I love how beautifully shot your videos are. The part where I pick up neat tricks to try in my own sewing is just a nice bonus 🙂
I am happy you enjoy them! Learning is always a bonus. 🥰
Beautiful video Kristine. Your blouse looks so lovely.. and the smocking worked really well too. Your hand stitching is beautiful. I make most of my clothes and hand stitch some of them too as well. I don't mind how long it all takes. It's more important to me to enjoy the process and know that I have made something lovely to wear. Thank you for your inspiration!
I’ve been thinking of trying smocking a top for ages, this was magical to watch.
The smocking is the perfect detail for this very pretty blouse!
It was such fun too! 🥰
Soot is the most perfect pattern weight! 🐈⬛
The best!
If you're ever this close on fabric again cut it flat instead of on the fold. You'll have more layout options and you will have less piercing. Just make sure you remember to mirror your sleeves😊
I just have to pause this video and tell you how much I’m enjoying it! And your kitty is so sweet, always near. Thank you for this video!
I love button stashes, many an hour was wiled away in my grandmothers sewing room with the button box
Same. I inherited a bag of buttons from my great grandmother and it was a great time looking through them every time!
Love this blouse, so comfortable to wear. I am also very taken by you scissors holder attached to your pin cushion in a jar. So convenient as I am always searching for scissors.
so pretty, and i'am in love with your cat!
She’s such a sweetheart! ❤️
Love, love, love this blouse. It's beautiful!
So enjoyed your video. The blouse is beautiful and the smocking is perfect for it. I enjoy handwork but rely on my machine for most of my sewing. This "step back in time" was delightful. Thank you.❤
you made wonderful use of that fabric. i love how the blouse turned out :)
Thank you! 😊 I am trying to downsize my stash a bit.
Love the blouse 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 it looks great on you and watching you create was a pleasure,as is always with your videos. Your feline familiar does an amazing job at supurrvising, indeed 🖤🖤
She is the best! 🐈⬛
Beautiful result, Kristine, such lovely fabric too.
Thank you! It really is a gorgeous fabric. 🥰
Tak!
That little indigo fact is so interesting! I need to get myself some indigo undershirts with how prone I am to mishaps 😂
Very good for a first time indeed! I love the subtle detailing of the smocking.
Ps: the captions don't seem to be working for me, I don't know if it's on my end but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
That is so strange! I am afraid it works on my end, so I am unable to replicate and/or fix it. I hope the captions return to you post haste!
wow... smocking looks like so much fun! this blouse looks beautiful on you~~
It was a lot of fun! Will definitely try again! ❤️
Soot is gorgeous! 💗
To your point about garment construction, the reality is that garment makers throughout history have almost always made next to nothing, whether that be home sewers, piecework assemblers, mill workers, or factory workers. When it comes to most basic daily-wear garments, it's always been the fabric and garment *sellers* (shop and factory owners, fabric merchants, couturiers, etc.) who reaped the profits. Meanwhile, those who actually did the cutting, basting, stitching, embellishing, and finishing (whether at home, in the backrooms of the shops or on the factory floors) have long been forced to subsidize fashion out of the pockets of their own survival needs. There are exceptions, of course. But historically speaking, this seems to have been the norm more than it hasn't.
Yup. It is pretty atrocious how textile making and garment production has continuously been undervalued historically.
Finding beautiful vintage fabric here in the U.S. is difficult. Even checking the antique and resell stores rarely produce anything more than some small lacey hanky's and scarves.
This fabric was not vintage, surprisingly! It came from a company collaborating with small Indian hand weavers to pay them fairly and give their fabrics a wider audience. :)
@@KristineVike oh that's wonderful!
So lovely -- the fabric, the cut/ fit of the garment... and that delightful smocked detail!❤
It is a fun technique for sure!
Re gifted Gramma items: vintage scissors are the BEST!
Oooh, I haven’t come across those yet, but I bet!
@@KristineVike I'll see if I can get Instagram to let me send you a pic of my favorite pair...
Beautiful!
Gorgeous 😍
Thank you! 😊
Also, what brand are your fabric shears? I love the sound they make!
It says Premax just under the handle, they are serwing me well!
@KristineVike Awesome thanks 😊
Kitty!
Mine isn't allowed on tthe table so he steals my chair 😂
Relatable!
The sewing room is the only place they are allowed, and they know. 😂
Muy bonita, de donde eres.?
Hei Kristine.
Hei Sidsel. Det har jeg dessverre ikke kapasitet til.
Like the fabric. Have a black guy like yours who weighs 20 pounds.
Aw, black cats are the best! 🖤
@@KristineVike Tak for dit søde svar.
