I bet no-one noticed that on the Pillar of Autumn and the Maw you can see her suit being monitored, but she's not on the ship so everything's unavailable except for ther picture of the Mark V armour. She was somewhat heavily featured in the book "The Fall of Reach" which came out about a month before the first game where she receives mortal wounds and the Chief brought her back to the PoA to freeze her. That little Easter egg didn't show up until the anniversary edition though. I think the original panel was void of writing because the Chief didn't have an official name yet.

Also, techically its a Halo Reach and Halo CE reference, since Linda was actually “killed” on Reach, but she was just very badly wounded as after Halo CE Master Chief and Cortana find her Cryo pod, and her still alive in it. I read this in the Halo Encyclopedia I have.
