When the brother said "heir for a day", he was referring to the king's new born son who was the new heir, but then died the same day.
The king was offended because he felt his brother was mocking the death of his son.

    NON SPOILER EXPLANATIONS (Non-Got watchers)
The decision for the next heir was between the woman (Rhaenys) and the man (Viserys). Rhaenys had a better claim, but the Lords did not want a female ruler, so they gave it to the man.
Dragons: Almost* every Targaryen (mostly white haired people) have their own dragon. The golden dragon (name: Syrax) in the intro belongs to Rhaenyra (the daughter) the Red dragon (name: Caraxes) belongs to Daemon (brother/uncle). The king’s dragon died ( the skull with the candles)
The city watch is like the police. However, they were ill equipped and therefore allowed the city to fall into chaos. Otto Hightower appointed Daemon the head of the city watch, hoping to keep him away from court and making him the head of a band of losers. Daemon turned around and made the city watch a respectable organisation and started cleaning up the crime in the city.
    The Hightowers :
So far we saw Otto Hightower (hand of the king) his daughter is Alicent (Rhaenyra’s bff) and his son was injured in the tourney.
The man you’re calling the Priest 🤣 is actually called a Maester (pronounced MAY- Stir- like Daemon*)
Maesters are like the doctors/advisors/postmen of the Realm. Each family has its own maester.
The choice presented to Viserys was
    Both of them die
    Or
We can try to save the baby.
Dragons only have respond to commands given in High Valyrian (the native language of the Targaryens, Daemon and Rhaenyra spoke it in the throne room)
Until the King provides a son, the king’s brother is the heir because females cannot inherit (proven in the intro to the show).
The heir for a day is the title Daemon gave to the baby because the baby only lived for a day.
Daemon is married to a lady of the Vale (another part of the kingdom). The dark haired girl in both the sx scene snd at the end is the same person, she’s his mistress not his wife.

and yet Rhaenyra was given the responsibility of heir. thats like saying all AA are STILL slaves to yt ppl just because it went on for 400+ years. Even AFTER being "freed" by abraham. Just cause women not being set as heir is the norm doesn't mean it can't all of a sudden stop being that way. As seen when the king makes his daughter an heir. yt ppl are so racist and dont even see it, their perspective is so jaded and skewed and genuinely feel ok with doubling down on sexism in the show and then tryna say " well the books said this, or the show said this" the KING in the show said his daughter gone be the heir his damn daughter gone be the heir end of discussion. the word unprecedented IS a word yk. it's possible, just hasn't been done yet.

So, I think Daemon might have said "heir for a day" (about the baby), but it was taken out of context and reported to the king by his worst enemy (Hightower, the dude who sent his own daughter to, ahem, comfort the king).
When we saw Daemon in the brothel, he looked sad. But it's just in his personality to make an inappropriate joke like that, because he doesn't know how else to cope.
Matt Smith, the actor who plays Daemon, said he does really love his brother, and just wants to feel that love in return. Whatever that means for this scene.

Jousting tourneys can have different rules apparently. So tripping the horse may be legal in their games but not the most practical thing to do. According to my understand you usually win the horse and the person's armor, so if you hurt the horse, it really isn't worth anything. In jousting you're only allowed to aim at the other mans shield. The point is to break your lance upon the other guys shield in order to score points, but knocking the other guy off is like a knockout. Usually jousting is not that deadly. Remember that mostly noble men did it, they didn't want to die they just wanted the sport. Many did die, but usually they did not because high quality armor is really efefctive, way more than you might think based on movies.
There are people today who joust just like they did back in the day. They get beat up but they all live to do it again.
The hardest part about jousting is training a horse to ride a knight, buying all that expensive armor, and then learning how to ride a horse in that armor while also aiming your lance at another dude while taking a hit at the same time.
The brawlign where people kill each other is not a part of the game, thats just something that happend here because the King (the ref) left, so now all the cocky young dudes started brawling for pride, honor killing each other.

Always enjoy ya'll reactions! I get why you'd misunderstand a lot of the movements and connections and intrigue. Despite this ya'll got a lot right and had reasonable questions and sickness to the moves and actions people were making. But your reactions were on point though, and fitting, which is why your channel is enjoyable. You mix humor, the raw streetwise sense and strength of being men and brothas.. but also not afraid to show your empathy, emotions and sense of honor and moral compass. I'm glad to see those qualities you showed when I discovered ya'll in the Wheel of Time reactions weren't just for show ;) Ya'll even caught the redeeming qualities Daemon was showing glimpses of in his love for his family(his nieces and his brother) despite his brutality. I did not notice the possible correlation between the old man whispering to Otto the Hand of the King shortly before giving the king the advice in the birthing room. I need to look at that again to make sure it's the same old man.
Ps. Dragons are bonded for the life of the rider and dragon. No one was parting that dragon from his rider, as they're protective and and emotional. You see a glimpse of it during the funeral.
Pss. If you ever react to the new Lord of the Rings, please don't listen to all these negative haters bashing the show as it's a fantasy adventure akin to Wheel of Time or Witcher and less so to stuff like Game of Thrones. They're insecure that there's a black elf, a black female dwarf queen, a brown hobbit precursor and a 3000 old Elven Queen who can fight, thinking it's impossible that in those 3000 years of conflict she never picked up a sword lol. The kind of people who search for things to label "woke" every day, several times a day. They bash it for not being 1 for 1 book to show and the interprations of an appendices section of history that has no story. A lot had to be created since the Tolkien estate only let them stay within those appendices and could not reference names or stories from other parts of the lore, unless they paid for it or was in the contract. Most of the huge amount of money they spent on the show actually went to buying the rights from the Tolkien estate, another point these people will try to bash the show for, saying "all that money" blah blah, presenting points with out context lol. They'll attack you if you like the show. The kind of people you'll get in those reactions to that huge show are more toxic than the ones you probably saw in Wheel of Time comments. They stand truly opposite ya'lls vibes and I could already see you guys sayin' hold up! lol Keep it coming guys and bless🤙🏾

I initially thought Vesyrs was kind of blinded by ambition by choosing the baby over the mother, but the rewatching it this this go round, I don’t believe there was ever a choice to save the mother. The Maester said the baby was essentially turned the wrong way (feet first), and they weren’t able to turn the baby for her to push. The baby would have to come out one way or another and they would have no other choice but “surgery”. I think it was more a choice of, we can do the survey and she will pass, or we can do nothing and let them both pass.

  • @ElysiaBrenner
    @ElysiaBrenner Před rokem +3

And Daemon was with his mistress, not his wife. We haven't seen his wife yet; she lives in another part of the country (the Vale). 😊

  • @janeathome6643
    @janeathome6643 Před rokem +1

Background, but I promise, no spoilers!:
The Queen was going to die because the baby wasn't able to come out. The decision was to cut out the baby, or drug her unconscious for the pain (which would automatically kill the baby); so try for the baby or give them both up for dead. You're being too hard on the King; as the Maester said, it was an impossible choice. Women died like that all the time.
You are also missing a lot because you didn't watch GOT: all the different "kingdoms" , which were actual kingdoms before the Targaryen ancestor Aegon conquered the 7 Kingdoms. The Targs are originally from Valyria in Essos (the East) and the ancient Valyrians tamed the dragons. When Valyria was destroyed by the mysterious "Doom" the Targs escaped to the island of Dragonstone and lived there until Aegon came along and conquered Westeros with 3 dragons (the other 2 ridden by his sister wives).
The Targaryens (at least the really high born ones) have traditionally married brother and sister(s), or uncles with nieces and aunts with nephews, to keep the bloodline pure which is why so many of them have the trait of white hair. However, incestuous marriage is not normal for the rest of Westeros.
Each of the powerful Targs have their own dragons, so Daemon wasn't stealing his dragon. Also, that wasn't Daemon's wife (who he calls the "bronze bitch" because she is presumably red-haired and from the Vale (so not a Targ and clearly an arranged marriage he did not want -- virtually all high born marriages are arranged, if love grows then good for you). The woman he introduced to the dragon was the prostitute from the brothel, and someone who he will never, ever marry.
The dream of Aegon, the Song of Ice and Fire, is the subject of Game of Thrones which begins 189 years in the future, but no one knows the timeline, so the knowledge is passed from monarch to heir in order to be prepared. However, 172 years in the future, the Targaryens are overthrown and knowledge of this prophecy dies out before it can be passed on because the King and Crown Prince were both killed before either could have passed on that info to anyone else. Although the usurpers would probably have disbelieved them anyway because the Targs have a long tradition of mental instability due to all their inbreeding.
This story is set during the Golden Age of the Targaryen Dynasty, and the events of this story will ultimately lead to the end of that Golden Age and sow the seeds of its collapse a century and a half later.

    Options:
    1) Both die
    2) Baby is deliberately killed & mom still is not guaranteed to live
    3) Try to save the baby & mom still is not guaranteed to live
The baby doesn't have less of a right for their life to be fought for because they are small vs a grown adult. Forget the womb. You have a baby grown & still inside an 'artificial womb' sitting in the street about to be killed by a car & an adult standing in the street about to be killed by a car.
    Who do you save?
    Who "deserves" it "more"?
Maybe you can divert both cars maybe you can't. You could try to divert one car that will 100% save the baby, but you won't be fast enough to fully divert the other so the adult may be only partially injured or they could still die. The adult is definitely more likely to survive a partial car accident than the baby. So what do you do? Intentionally kill one to guarantee the other lives or risk it and fight for both? It's the intent that's the key to this moral conundrum. Dismembering or poisoning an unborn baby is wrong. Plain and simple. Luckily with modern medicine there is no hypothetical condition where the mom is saved by dismembering or poisoning the baby. You just have to remove the baby via birth or c-section. The baby may still not survive after no matter how hard you fight to save them. But you didn't deliberately cause their death.

Get ur tail off that throne took me out 😆 in the birthing scene the choice was the baby or neither because the baby was breached and they're not skilled enough to do a csection and have the mother live, agreed that if he clued Aemma in on what the situation was she would've chosen to save the baby, but her saying no was due to pure horror & shock of being held down, high on milk of the poppy, pain and being clueless about what the situation was. He was a sucker for not being man enough to tell her the deal.
Yall should've definitely watched GOT first... even though this is set before, it would make more sense.
