I actually did this once... its a memory that means a great deal to me. I was yelled at for being out of position at my restaurant when working as a server, but I was asked to be there by management... that manager decided instead of taking the heat, he'd blame me. I was given a management complaint form to initial, but instead of initialing I wrote "I Quit." put it on the table in front of them, and walked out without turning around. I felt like fuckin Larry Bird. Recommend everyone does it at some point.
I love a good quitting story
I did something similar. I was working as a cashier. We were supposed to organize the shelves each night. But we were so understaffed that I was basically chained to the register for the entire shift. Additionally, they wanted you off the clock no later than 30 minutes after closing. It was impossible to straighten the shelves and do all the other closing duties in that amount of time. I saw other employees clock out and THEN straighten the shelves. There was no way in hell I was working for free though.
So I just didn't do it because I didn't have time. It's not like I left the place a mess. Anyway, my boss wrote me up one day. I explained to her the situation, but she didn't care. I've never been written up in 25 years of working. I'm a good employee and don't do anything that would ever warrant a write-up. I wasn't about to get one for not doing the impossible.
So I just said, "You know what? F*** this." And I turned around and walked out. I then had to call my girlfriend up and sheepishly tell her I'd quit. We'd just moved in together and I didn't have a ton of savings. Fortunately, I was able to find something within two weeks, so I didn't end up having to live off her.
All in all, I'll never forget the feeling of liberation/elation that came over me as I left the store. Worth it. My next job was so much better.

I've worked so many toxic jobs for mean and manipulative bosses in my life. It took me finally landing jobs where I was treated well to realize that it didn't have to be that way. Especially when you're young, bosses think they can treat you terribly because you don't know any better or are afraid to stand up for yourself.
Around 2013, I got my first good job. Since then, I've had a string of great bosses. It may just be luck, but I think there's probably also something I'm projecting that say "I don't need you and if you treat me poorly, I'll just find somewhere else to be." There's a lot of leverage in that kind of attitude.
On a related note, it's amazing that in the midst of a labor shortage bosses continue to exploit their employees and pay them terribly. With any other market shortage, people accept that they will have to pay more for the goods or services. But yet, so many companies would rather just be understaffed than pay people a fair wage.
Working in a toxic office environment... I guess many of us have been there at least once in our lives. i certainly have... and it gave me so much happiness to hand in my papers. I just wish I had had the guts to tell the bosses why I was actually leaving instead of chickening out and citing health reasons!

Yeah places I've worked the people made it toxic because they were toxic and the work itself was mind, body and soul draining where you really just stopped caring about being there and just wanted to leave.

I am working at an org that has a firing culture, and I just have so much anxiety thinking I am next, I keep going above and beyond, I keep doing overtime work even tho I dont get paid for it. (I am salaried) IDK sometimes I feel like quiting. But I need a new job before I quit. Lol

The Funny part is everyone thinking work is suppose to be fun and exciting, work is WORK for a reason if you enjoy what you do great but what's more important living or having fun doing a job?
P.S. for the slower people living with a bad job is better than dying with a fun job. Not sure how that's even question.

because its not an option for 100% of people. good for you if you found something you love honestly! But the harsh reality is that that is not available for the majority of people, for example if ice fishing is something you love but you live in Las Vegas than your pretty screwed. Sure it's easy to say just move to were there is ice fishing but someone that has zero income and no finances can't do that. I'm pretty drunk so i don't know if im explaining it well my wife says im an ass when im drunk so im trying real hard i swear.@@AZDfox
