  • Am 5. Juli war Yoko Tawada in Greifswald zu Gast, um aus ihrem Buch „Abenteuer der deutschen Grammatik" zu lesen. Im Anschluss an diese unterhaltsame Lesung gab es noch eine von Eckhard Schumacher moderierte Fragerunde. Außerdem hatten wir noch einige Fragen an Yoko Tawada zur deutschen Sprache.

I read one of her novels. It was very unique. I don't know what she's saying but I think her german sounds very intelligent!

She talks mainly about language, namely: To live in a language, for her it is absolutely imperative to draw that language really close to her and "do something" with it. You could call that "making it her own". She said that she has got the impression that german words are longing to be taken apart,
for example the german word Flug(-)zeug which, if taken apart would end up something like "flight" and "stuff".
I love her work, she inspires me like barely anyone else
