    Too cool...great job...
    Funny story if I may... I"m 65 years old and grew up in the middle of Amish country in Northern Indiana... Mom, used to be Amish... but we were modern... LOL...
    Best friend in HS lived on a small farm...and his Dad farmed with an old John Deer "Johnny Popper"...
    We loved riding and driving that old thing...
    Friends dad was coming back from the local feed mill with a flat bed wagon with sides on it and grain in it... the old "Popper" got into a rhythm going up this hill on a state hwy... and as they will do it was bouncing... In that process it worked the draw bar pin up, and out... unhooking the wagon half way up this hill... Dick.. heard the wagon tongue hit the pavement and instantly knew what had happened... in a split second, he hit the left brake and spun the tractor around... drove down to a point just behind the wagon... hit the left brake again... spun around again, and came up behind the wagon just as it was stopping it's forward motion...
    Still one of the coolest things I've ever heard a guy do... Most of us would have taken seconds or longer to figure out what to do, and in split seconds.. my friends Dad... acted... saved the wagon... the grain... and any potential harm to someone who might have been coming up behind him...
    Miss those old days...

    Nice work but I'm amazed you still have all your toes. If you're gonna work on heavy equipment like that at least get some work shoes on, preferably some steel or fiberglass toed boots. I see you wore a face shield to protect your eyes so why not protect your feet as well? It's like the first time we baled hay I wore shorts and a tee shirt (I was about 13) and the sharp ends of that hay had poked my arms & legs full of holes that itched like hell as I was loading the bales onto the wagon and then again up into the loft. I learned real quick why all the farmers I saw always had on long trousers or overalls and long sleeve shirts, LOL! I'd wear the flip flops or sandals for goin' to town but if I was working on the farm I always had my boots on. Ever tried digging a hole with a round point shovel in flip flops? It doesn't work, lol. All you do is end up bruising the soles of your feet. Put your boots on and you can cut through that soil like a hot knife through butter.

    Great job on the front end of the A. When you leave the tractor running, put the transmission in neutral and push in the clutch, this keeps the throw out bearing from running while just sitting.

    You will like the tricycle front especially with the Roll-O-Matic. I had a B with that set up. It was a lot more maneuverable than the wide fronts of that era.I liked the JD B in the woods.To load on a trailer with only 2 ramps just head straight toward the trailer then head the front toward one ramp and go up, then go back to the middle and the rear will follow. That works better than an old board.

    I was going to ask if there was a screw, to tighten the steering up, you tighten that screw a little, that big nut on top, just tighten it down until tight, if it's to tight you won't be able to steer it! I'm watching , so if I have to do my 52 B! Looks good!! Some parts from a 60 are interchangeable, and vice versa, they are basally the same tractor! 60 is a bigger model of an A! #1, don't use the clutch as a brake, just pull the clutch leaver back, and let it go, then pull it back to stop the engine so you can shift #2, when sitting and idling for more than a few minutes, set the brakes, take it out of gear, and engage the clutch, that will keep that bearing in the clutch lubed! # 3 when you shut it off, turn the gas off, so if the float sticks open in the carb, all the gas won't be in your oil!!

    VERY IMPORTANT - lubricant clutch bearing , if it seizes up in gear there is nothing to stop it from moving. Maybe try Turn key off or slip it out of gear. Also when sitting out of gear engage clutch so that the bearing is not working more than it has to .

  • @OkFixer
    @OkFixer Před 3 lety

    Ooooooooooo rolomatc! Lucky you.
    You should drain the transmission also and see what’s in it. Probably when you pull the plug nothing will come out. You will have to take a stick and break the rust plug. Then about 2 gallons of water will come out. Along with some black baby poop. Your transmission will love you long time if you put five new gallons of 90 weighed in it.
    Also, in the back you probably have a three point, or at the least rock shafts to raise the cultivators. This needs to be changed also. The oil in it. You can just use 10 W 30. It holds about two or 3 quarts. If it has water in it which it probably does. Because cast iron sweats. It will freeze in the winter time and break your pump. like wise The transmission. The water in there will freeze and the tractor won’t move.
    The hydraulic pump in the back has a plug at the bottom all you have to do is pull the plug out. It drains, and you refill it at the top. It has a petcock that tells you when it’s full. The lever beside the seat is for that hydraulic operation. On my tractor anyways. You have a newer model a though...So it’s neater and cooler.

    My father would always put tin cans on the stacks even when his John Deere A was parked in the big shed, and my brother would remove the can on the exhaust stack the same way. We could plow and disk in one third the time that it took using the Ford 8N so my father wanted a lot more corn planted. I don't know how you're using the tractor for demolition. I would just burn the old house.

  • @wackowacko8931
    @wackowacko8931 Před 4 lety

    A few suggestions, you can listen or not, it’s up to you. Instead of lifting the front end of tractor, you could pull out one of the boards on the trailer - that would make it less likely to flip over also since the front end isn’t as high. When lifting the front end, you should put a loose chain from the top of the pedestal to the front of the trailer - this will keep the front end of the tractor from flipping all the way over if it gets too high up. Also, if you have a choice in the matter, load the tractor on the trailer so that the back wheels are nearer the front of the trailer. This is because when you are loading the tractor, it will have a great tendency to flip over backwards from the engine torque and because the front end will be high up in the air - and you don’t have any ROPS protection on this tractor which is something you should think about adding. I’ve seen a few people almost get killed doing this exact same thing. Doing this will move the center of gravity on the trailer towards the trailer tongue, which will make the trailer more stable when pulling it. Typically, when removing a sector gear on a steering system, you want to mark the sector gear in relation to the worm gear, so that the steering wheel remains centered. I know that since the shaft was broken it didn’t exactly matter, but you should be aware of it the next time you do something like this. You can braze the top pedestal cover shut instead of replacing it, since it has a cover over it most of the time.
    If you are going to pull down the house, do it from the corners. This is where a lot of structural rigidity is in the house, so pulling from there will tend to topple it more quickly. Or instead, if the house is built from hardwoods, have an architectural or wood salvage place come out and deconstruct it for you.

    • @HumbleAcres
      @HumbleAcres  Před 4 lety

      You win for longest comment! trailer not mine not going to mod it. The tractor was strapped to the fork on the loader. Rear wheels were to wide to put in the front of the trailer. Won't be adding ROPS. The steering wheel being straight is not a concern. Brazing the cover is an option but I don't have a torch. Pulling the corners of the house would be good we will see. I have already tried to get people to salvage it but nobody is interested. hopefully I answered everything. Thanks for watching!!
