  • Modern Release Vs Old School Release!! Train your club face correctly! This is huge, and not doing this correctly will have massive impacts on the direction the golf club goes. This is super easy and simple to do, and PGA Alex Elliott Golf has some brilliant demonstrations for you to see, which means you can easily take this to the golf course!
    The modern pros of today swing the club very differently to previous generations. One swing released the club with the hands and the other used the body to control the club! This videos looks at the benefit of the two different options, and how you can use these out on the golf course.

    Alex, this is a wonderful and very clear analysis of the modern versus Traditional Swing. Helps me tremendously. Way to go. I started playing when I was about 11 years old, which is when I first started caddying. I quit golf for about 40 years and now I'm an avid golfer once more. I would describe my swing as traditional.

    I'm 76 with a 5 handicap and this year I decided I need to use the "old school release" - just like you've suggested. I started 2023 with a 7 handicap and improved to a 5 when I made this change. I like you approach that there's more than one way to swing based on your individual circumstances - well done!

    I have been working on the body swing (new) after 60+ years of arm swing(old) with discouraging results.
    Your demonstration of the hip turn is the clearest I have seen.
    Thanx. I will try that tomorrow to see if it will keep my ball from fading . I always fade the ball if I don’t get them 45° to the left by the time the club makes contact. Straight as Robinhood’s arrow when I do make the 90° turn from right to left.

    Thanks for this video this explains allot. I think this is why I struggle now after picking back up the game after many years of not playing consistently. I used to play in the low 80's and now struggle to break 90. I have been watching/practicing to so many modern release videos after not playing for many years. I think I still have pieces of my traditional swing that is not working well with the new instructional videos I have been watching. Not even sure my body is set up for the modern release after a previous back surgery. I am going to have to go in for some lessons and get this figured out.

    Started golf as a late bloomer in my early 30 but after my recovery from my 4th surgery I’m going to take the opportunity to retool my swing to modern. Like Jordan Speith. Sort of the smaller of the moderns that seem to be built like line backer in a football “American” team lately. Hoping to generate power by taking the pressure if my arm shoulders and more core turn. Tony Finau like.

    Hi Alex, I think your expiation between traditional and modern is the best I have heard. In fact you are the only one I have ever heard that has shown the difference.
    As I have gotten older I am like most trying to get more distance. To your point I think I got caught between both swings. At 75 I think it’s best to stay with traditional. Unfortunately I have had some injuries and require surgery but I am determined to play good golf again.

    I have been playing golf for over 15 years moving from old tradition to new tradition. Using new traditional method caused me lots of distance. I starting to use my whole body and no arms release. Now I tried to combine the new method on the take back and coming down and use softer left hand and arms going around the body. This will create a torque on the way down with the body and more hands and arms speed.

    Started learning golf in 1988 (at 33yo). Started playing in 1989. Old school swing with reverse C caused a lot of back issues. I first eliminated the reverse C around 1995. I was a slicer & couldn’t draw the ball at all. Never had lessons but I started closing the face a little to reduce slice & developed a controlled hard fade which also came with a bad pull hook at times (3 of 10 swings).
    It wasn’t until around 2005 that I started using the modern swing that I almost eliminated the pull hook & now an unintentional draw, which wasn’t bad. I now have a nice controlled fade driver, long & mid irons. I also can fade my short irons but I have to set up correctly to it or I draw them, which is not a bad thing, especially to get around trees on dog leg left fairway approaches.
    Awesome Alex. You made me think about the evolution of my swing which I have never really broken down as I just did. Thanks again for the awesome content & drills.

    I started playing golf in the late 1970’s. I was taught the old method and could hit the ball a decent distance but my wood shots never really worked. Fast forward 40 odd years and I am now playing the modern way. Iron shots fly higher because I am not closing the face and wood shots tend to be straighter. I am not hitting the ball as far but I am 71. Iron shots are now very accurate with lots of spin. I have stopped duck hooking shots which is good news but I have noticed that timing is more critical if I want consistent distance. Only doing a 3/4 swing these days but with a stronger grip nowadays. Previously I had to play a very week grip and I was finding that my wrists were hurting after a round. Thanks for the vlog.

      @kdub3288 Před rokem

      Yes I really wasn’t aware that there were two totally different types of swings so I got lost trying to mix elements of each from different instructors and it really screwed me up. After learning about different swings and that I’m more old school, I’m sticking with old school because I’m way more comfortable and accurate with it. I’ve tried the modern swing and found I may get a little more distance (probably from lower ball flight) but it just feels too unnatural for me and feel like I don’t have nearly as good distance control. I’ve played baseball growing up too so I don’t think that helps with the new swing either.

    Nice explanation, I play since 30 years, I find myself more consistent the “modern” way. The “old” way is fine but the arm timing is something which you can loose so easily …

  • @ReggieGomez48
    @ReggieGomez48 Před 3 lety

    I’ve been more serious about golf the last 4 years. I’m more close to the modern release being more on the single plane. Biggest key for me has been more neutral on grip to get the hands more passive. Too strong on grip gets back in the danger zone as you call it encouraging more active hand/arm rotation on release. Interested to hear your thoughts on grip influence as is pertains to type of release.

    “WIN” like to see the comparison between old cars new release, and clearing up some questions I had on the “modern” release

      I started when I was 8. We lived on a lake and my Dad would get us to the golf course in a boat. One spring I caught a 5 lb. carp with a 9 iron.🎏

      And I’d say I started around 11 stopped quickly and re started at around 26-27 I had to change from traditional to modern as my body changed 😂

    I turned 65 recently and with my new driver and modern golf swing I hit it 260 yards. I don't use the closed DJ face with the rolled wrist at the top... too painful on my tendons.. I close it on the way down. 45 plus years of play .. many many many swing changes through the years. You'd think I was named Padraig. Win from the last video.

    Win - I can see that the modern swing might be a little more consistent than the traditional swing.
    Going to try a little bit more modern swing in my practice.
