Mages: _20fp for decent damage at range_ Smithscript Shield: _2fp for good damage at range_ This is why it feels broken. You out-range the range build who also needs to put quite a bit of effort into another stat entirely just to attack.
My new PVP build is this shield with the iron cleaver in the right hand. You can do crazy roll catches with a shield throw to force the roll and the charged R2 to catch it. Also a great tool to punish mages casting longer spells.
Personally I've fallen in love with the daggers. I treat them like long range fist weapons and pair them with endure. Their damage is boosted by the smithscript talisman , winged insignia, millicent talisman and many others. They also have an amazing guard counter that moves you backwards a little. I run them cold and alternate between jumping heavies and r1 spam after endure. Finally one thing I've notices with many of the smith script weapons, the daggers and the axe's jumping attacks seem to be headshot seeking missiles. So keep an eye out for that when factoring damage.
pretty sure theres nothing you can do against l2 spam from this shield, if you go to whiff punish it just hits you at the close range when you throw it and on the part where it tracks to you as well. might just be broken with little to no counter play.
strength builds already have the gurranq spells at their disposal with the clawmark seal, just saying they have plenty of ranged options for minimal faith investment

That bug had been fixed long ago in theory. Seems like this isn't the only old but that's been resurfacing with the DLC for some reason, the double dash incants are back too, except this time you use Crucible: Horns immediately into Crubible: Thorns instead of a Dragon Communion spell. Doubt someone can make something useful out of that bug, but at least it's extremely goofy to see your character's torso spin around with its legs completely static. Bonus fun: try chaining Black Blade into Crucible: Thorns. Thank me later.
Pretty sure the smithscript weapons are way stronger with int or fth builds thanks to the physical int/fth scaling, so the ones you can put ashes of war on are probably going to do a lot more damage than the shield thanks to that. This does look pretty darn promising despite the looks. Thr fact that the attack does NOT get canceled when someone attacks you after you throw it AND that it deals enough poise damage to stagger a little, makes it seriously hard to contest. Does the bug also work with an offhand throwing blade?
@@sk8legendz the throwing weapons are really mixed they either suck or are completely broken, the best strong throwing weapons I’d recommend is the smithscript cirque back hand blade. they’re really good and just really strong from what I’ve seen if but if you want completely broken tho then look no further than this dumb shield in pvp it’s almost an auto win you opponent need like 5 specific weapon/ash of war just to stand a chance and in pve this thing is still amazing and with the bug it just gets better

FYI the arrow's reach talisman also increases the range on smithscript weapons.
you can't strafe it which is annoying, makes it so you have to dodge and that makes it very hard to approach them.

The hammer is more fun. Something about spinning around in a circle before launching that thing halfway to Limgrave gets a chuckle out of me.
It also hits them if you throw it at point blank range as well as hitting them after as I found out when facing one.
This thing plus Dane's Footwork equals Captain America.
