17:27 cracked me up so much 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the overview and cost breakdown. It's really inspiring!
Yes quite the comical highlight, mind you I have had people to that in the past.. (ie no common courtesy, nosey muppets) ;)
At 21:58. I was really expecting Gavin Hardcastle to smuggle his book into your book collection 😂
Yeah Actally XD
A Photographer with a better Van build than a lot of the Van builders! Well done.
17:30 killed me! xD
Ah, memories.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto You really replied to me! You're awesome Thomas ♥️
Totally didn't expect that coming xD
Fab Four reunited!
Super job, Tom! Some really great ideas in there, loved it. Right back to work on mine now, I'm feeling inspired
You said that the last time.
Just copy paste
Yours must be coming along well now. This video doesn't show the lift, but you'll see it next time you see the van.
Still looking forward to seeing yours Adam.
Time for Thomas and Adam to get away from camper conversions. I thought these two guys were landscape photographers. Well boys get back to your roots.
Every part, nut, bolt, washer and screw has a purpose. This is a van built for photography by a photographer, it's certainly not built for an instagrammer. Congratulations Thomas on what has been truly a pleasure to see being created from start to finish and wish you many safe and successful miles. Only one question, have you got a fire extinguisher?, never spotted one in the video
All that hate for instagrammers lmao
He had one prominently displayed in one of the works in progress videos.
Thanks for your comment. I do indeed have a fire extinguisher. 👍👍
I agree we need a video on the fire extinguisher - type, make, why he chose it. 🤔
Could be a whole half hour on its own - with a new list to the accountant for self employed purposes.
Really cool van mate 👍🏻
Damn this build looks super clean! Love the accent lighting inside too, looks super cozy!
Nice to see you here :) I love how so many communities on YT are kinda connected like this, especially in this niche. Sort of creates the feeling of a big family
Tom.
I was watching this at 3 in the morning and the "not when you have a van as recognizable as this one" bit was great, thanks a lot, haha
I spit my coffee out at 17:40!!!! great work
I’m actually amazed at how inexpensive the project was, given how “top notch” the results are.
Again, this a dream vehicle, every details has purpose. 👍
Haha, when you got your book out to shamelessly big it up, I laughed so much I instantly hit Like and subscribed. And I agree about petrol prices . . . . if you can find any!
Brilliant conversion and a very entertaining van tour. Nice one :)
Headlights: Having lived off of Lake Superior where fog is common I'd turn on my lights - and way too often forget to turn them off. Got into motorcycles where your lights need to be on all the time, I figured if it was good for the motorcycle it would be good for the car so started driving around with my lights on all the time. Which means I also got into the habit of turning them off all the time. Been doing that for close to 30 years now.
That said, I have added a little Lithium jumper battery for each car and one for the motorcycles. So far I've only used it on the neighbors cars and my bike. Extremely useful kit.
Headlights always on. Besides the habbit of turnig it off you will get extra visibility points on the road, even in daylight. Safety first.
Great video Tom. Very good to know the true cost which, while not cheap, is much better than buying a pre-built 4x4 camper and tailored to your exact needs. Keep up the great work mate.
Adam, Gavin, Nick scene in van, priceless :)
What a great 1-person van build. We'll done.
Now he’s finally finished his one man van build he’s other half has just let him know she wouldn’t mind coming along on some of his adventures 😂😂😂😂
Or else........
The camping equivalent of "I'm not hungry." scnr
Hey Thomas, I did finally buy your book. It arrived just the other day, 3 days ahead of the estimated date. I love it; really love it. I am going through it a few pages at a time, because there is so much to take in. Just one wow after another. I am really glad you commented on the shipping price error in a recent video, because I was not going to buy your book if it cost that much to ship. I am really enjoying this video, too. I did watch the build videos in order as you posted them. Thanks all around.
Your toilet holds 50 stone, that's one hell of a meal!
🤣🤣
I keep coming back to this video just to admire how well you put this van-built together.
Jeez Tom, your channel has become increasingly broad and wizened, w/ great touches of easy humor, and increasingly heavy doses of sharing any and all things, photo related and whatever. Keep up this brilliant direction you've taken, and don't doubt it's value to your watchers for a second. Thanks my man.
I have enjoyed this series. You have done a great job with the van. The build has a very professional look to it. The aluminum and composite structure is so much nicer than wood. You can be proud of your work here. Hope you have many great trips in it.
Love that you keep your grey water...👌🏼 Great van!
That gap in the Awning could be taken care of by adding a fold over flap/cover and Velcro on top of the roof box. Get what you need from the roof box then put the cover on and it would not block the LED lights.
Great setup Thomas, thank you for sharing.
It was great to have a full tour, I watched your build VLOGS and you've done a brilliant job. The van is very functional and has a good level of comfort for a good night sleep out of the weather. You are the best of the many photographers that do these VLOGS. The GOLD standard1 Always enjoy Thursday morning (Australia) and a good coffee watching your latest. Keep it up TH!!
That's very kind. Thanks a lot. Happy Thursday (It's still Wednesday here )
Really enjoyed the van build series, so was nice having you go over everything you’ve added. Such a rad van.
Very nice! I'm not into camper vans, hubby works at an rv dealer, and we build many things ourselves, but I've been waiting for your full tour. Building it your self, your way is always great. It's now One of a kind, just like you. :)
Happy camping~
Happy camping 😊🤙
This has zero relevance for my lifestyle and yet I enjoyed it tremendously. Nice.
You have best small van build... clean and simple
First class build Thomas. I like how you thought it through, established your priorities and made it work for your needs. Considering the cost of the van and the quality of the equipment and fittings I thought the final price was more than reasonable.
As a landscape photographer not a van builder you did a real proffesional looking job and you didn't miss a thing, storage everywhere.
I laughed way too hard at everybody screaming in the middle. Perfect skit. The van looks amazing and now I know I need my own rig for this kinda stuff for sure.
Credit to you Tom, brilliantly built, and thoroughly enjoyed all the build vids you did, should last you years, drive safe
Clear to see you really thought this all through in great detail Thomas, I'd say it's a fantastic result and you've done an excellent job, enjoy your travels! PS Thanks for sharing all of this, very generous! You're a clever chap!
Where they say Size does matter, with your floor plan design,, it doesn't matter. Great job! I just watched all your van build camper. Very impressive.
Hi Tom, awesome conversation!!! One think. You need to install a fusebox for the 240v outlets! In the case you have a failure in that system the battery will not activate the internal fuse with two outlets. I think you use an EcoFlow now, there is a tool to use the EcoFlow with a household fusebox…best Seb!
Best. Grey water. Setup. Ever! Simple genius!
Omg, everyday I get a little bit more motivated to make that same move and become location independent. Thanks for another great video!
Loved your van build, your choice of materials and workmanship is first class 👌 👍 absolutely superb in every respect.
If you ever get tired of photography, you've probably got tons of offers for work in "custom design". You nailed this. Congrats. You've actually made my wife interested in camping!!
Love the fact your using ridgemonkey equipment shows it’s not just for carp fishing
You inspired me so much, not just by photography. I get this feeling i want to do something epic with life and i what to thank you for that.
Man, I love these small yet super cozy camper vans, and the fact you made this all by yourself, makes it even better. Awesome work my guy! 🙌
It always kills me when you crop in on your hair :D
Haha, so glad you noticed!!
Favourite bits!
17:30 a skit like this is out of character for you, which makes it especially great!
Of all the people chasing the four wheel drive fad I think yours is the only one where you drive the van places I would not take my two wheel drive American Ducato. I'm taking off next year when I retire with wife dog and camera and getting ready makes every day still at work bearable. I think you make excellent use of your Delica and its a pleasure to watch.
Disappointed Thomas where was Chasing Awe! By Gavin Hardcastle! Good job on the van, keep up the fantastic work 🤣📸
I was going to ask about that too! No photography library is complete without (read in Gavin's voice) Chasing Awe, with Gavin Hardcastle.
Lol. I thought the same thing when editing. It's currently on my desk, not in the van 🤙
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Ha ha let's hope Gavin hasn't watched this video 🤦 but in all seriousness your van looks amazing! You need to give Adam some tips on his van!
Funny. I was just thinking about something like this, because I want to go on a long road trip. And here it is. Popping on CZcams....
Long video, don't think so, long enough, no.
I absolutely love your build and its just what I would really appreciate.
I 😅 so much had to rewind so I didn't miss anything
Absolutely brilliant footage thank you
Just a quick add on, I nipped back in my time machine and had a butchers at the transit, which one do I prefer, have to say that the transit left me unimpressed unlike your self build which I love, cudos to you, you nailed it
I haven't laughed that hard in AGES. Thank you for that!!
Perfect budget, great modular adaptable design. Marvelous presentation very profesional and well structured. I will be using the aluminium frames. Definitely.
Space is the ultimate luxury.
that bit was great with the bois
"It's got a nice big hole." Thomas Heaton, July 2021.
Great video, Thomas, the van conversion is superb - wish I had your skills. Dammit!
You did a good job on the van! I have no idea how pounds, quid, shillings, and Euros relate to dollars. * Cheaper isn't always less expensive in the long run. I used to buy shoes from a discount store & had to replace them every 3-4 months. I finally bought Rocky boots at over $100 a pair, and they were still in good shape 7 years later. I bought a pair of Nike tennis shoes that I wore 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year for 13+ years when they finally fell apart. In the long run the boots and shoes were less expensive than the cheaper ones. It's probably the same with your van, because you'll have less repairs/replacements over the years.
That scene with people out the window........about wet myself. great overall job, really good choice of vehicle, it has a look about it.
Zooming in on the little hair nub, the Borat “subscribe” at the end of the video. Oh yeah and the van build - best video on CZcams today! Very nice!
You did a killer job on this mate. I found your channel during the van build, and stayed for the photography trips. The lighting you setup inside is definitely the highlight for me.
I fixed my motorcycle's sluggish clutch bc of the heavy motivation I got after watching those delica build videos 😅 Felt like I gotta do something like that too. Now, the clutch is better than what the bike came with😂 thanks to my attention to detail with installing rubber gaskets and caps to each end of the clutch🤷🏻
That's awesome! I just changed the rear break pads. Very satisfying. 👍👍
Been watching the channel for a while and love your content. I properly let out a laugh when you zoomed into that bit of hair (and again!). Van appears to be the perfect tool and excuse for lots of adventures and memories. Thanks for the tour!
We absolutely LOVE our awning (similar to yours) we put on our Jeep 3 years ago. We use it almost every time we go out.
This was a great wrap up Tom and consolidates the build videos. You may have spent a bit more than you wanted but the quality and aesthetics are definitely worth it. That mood lighting looks so good with the cushions. The more I see this van the more I like its ruggedness. The view of the front is sweet with all those built in lights and the shot at the dealer's is jaw dropping. Happy trails Tom!
Great video, Loads of interesting tips. At 17:00 the part about the curtains is just funny.
That is cool!!! Thank you for the tour and letting us know the cost. I'm sure you are enjoying it. Looks like fun.
Got into this channel for the photography. Years later I started getting more into overlanding/camping and integrating that with my photography. Love the content man keep it up!
That's great to hear 👍👍 Photography harmonises with loads of things, including van 🤙
I started trekking because of Thomas.
Excellent! The best Delica buildout I've ever seen.
Your enthusiasm and proudness about your van shines through. Absolutely awesome fella 🙂👍🏼
We saw one of these vans going down the road in northern NY state and they are now available in the US. Trouble is not enough room for both of us but we did get some valuable tips from this video and other you have done. Ours is an E350 ford but the milage is a killer. Switching to CZcams instead of Netflix for supper seems like a good move.
Just an idea to stop your awning flying back over the top of the van during windy conditions I drilled a couple of holes in the bottom the poles, put a ring through the holes so I can then peg them down to the ground. It doesn’t mean you can do away with diagonal tie downs from the top of the poles but it does make it more secure during a big blow.
Very nice vehicle and an excellent job putting it all together. The one thing that does concern me is the aluminum bed frame right behind the driver's seat. In a rear-end collision I would be worried about that being pushed forward and seriously injuring your spine. Putting the bed frame on the passenger side would alleviate that problem but it appears that this van only has one sliding rear door and that is on the passenger side which would be a problem with the bed on the passenger side.
Finally, the toilet part...yesss...i was looking forward to the toilet part for years..
The horror section was great - I'm definitely getting curtains!
We have recently bought a motorhome for our family, and this van is completely unsuitable for us, but it was an awesome little series to watch. I've built and renovated loads of stuff at home, simply by learning from CZcams vids etc., and so it was good to see a similar process of someone just going for it, learning as you go. The only thing I might've changed priority-wise was the spending on the diesel heater! I hope the CO problem is definitely solved with the revised exhaust vent position. I was most impressed by the finish quality on the cabinetry (the aluminium was a master stroke) and it was really interesting to see how the solar panel was performing far better on a hinge system, which makes complete sense, but I've never seen it done on any commercial installs (not sure why... here in Finland a hingeable panel would be so much better). Thanks for sharing.
That's my dream! Has been for over a decade (I'm a bit embarrassed it's still a dream...!). Good on yah!
Wonderful piece of work. Loved it and how you have taken care of all the nitty gritty camping needs. Wish I could have one ❤️
You are not only a very skilled person by building the van and photografy.
You are also a good documantry maker. If i spelled it the right way haha
17:40 😂😂😂
Such a wonderful job! It's definitely my dream van.
C'est vraiment formidable ton travail bravo 👌
The whole video, I had a smile in my face! Thanks! Awesome!
Glad you liked it 😊
Excellent build mate. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Ok, I have to admit I was watching this later in the evening and must of dozed off. Waking up to Adam, Gavin and Nick cracked me up. Great video showing off the van!
Absolutely love the build, beautiful inside and out. Strange that the van doesn't alert you when the lights are left on, I have a 96 Spacegear that does. But in every other way your van is far superior XD thanks for the inspo!
I love the unintentional ponytail. Great van too.
You've done a splendid job on this van. Thomas - I'm proud of you. The only thing that surprised me a bit was that the bed cushions cost more than all that aluminium framework and cupboard doors 😲 Still, I bet they're dead comfy.
Congratulations, Thomas, your van built is really a piece of art. I love my T5 California High Roof but your van is really a perfect off road one person photography vehicle! Excellent job. I wish you many nice trips with this beauty and always a safe return.
Can't wait to see the Van everywhere in Europe soon
Are the English allowed in Mainland Europe? :-)
@@AndyBanner only when mounting the steering wheel to the left side ;)
Hmmm, don't think that's happening anytime soon.
You did a great job on your van. Very clean and professional looking.
Nice…interesting video, love your camper van😀 Because you’re out traveling so much, I understand you getting quality items for your van that you know will hold up and work. I also like all of the neat little gadgets/items you have, well thought out. Cool job of utilizing the space, thanks again for showing us around👍🏽.
Bought the same Norco battery pack for the very same reason, no "lights on" warning on my old toyota granvia jdm camper! Was also very handy when the battery decided to die on Skye. Kept us going until I could get a new battery in Fort William. Great but simple conversion you've got.
Add a longer zipper to the awning case so you can open it up and close the gap awning to car roof
Your lighting concept is absolutely fantastic!!! Looks so awesome!
Amazing van. You need to out together an instruction book and sell it. Out a sticker on the back page that says By Thomas Heaton that we can put on the side of the vehicle. Lol.
It’s a really good build, well done
Thanks so much for the tour and the cost rundown, Tom. I really enjoyed this video and the build videos.
Love this man! Super helpful. Some of your accessories are a great idea. Ill be adding them to my 4x4 home!
I think you did a really great job on this van for someone who has never done a project like that before. may it serve you well
Thanks for this. Some really practical solutions.
Awesome job with your van build, well planned and executed...every photographers dream!!!
Easily the best compact camper for an individual, that too self built....amazing 👏
I was wondering where Nick was! Now I know.
Great video as always.
