One of the best matches in 2002 🎉 This match reminded me of Monica’s loss to Lucic in 99 Wimbledon: 2 closely-contested tiebreaks, against youngsters and big servers. Fortunately, Monica took her chance well this time.
just watched that 99 3rd round match and Lucic played so aggressively and was on fire that day, Monica not so much dropped the ball really short though some of that was due to lucic's play... here in 2002 she was a much fitter and complete player , always loved when she played Tokyo .. if not for Martina and Lindsay being slightly at a higher level, Monica would have a few titled here
She could do anything out on the court but that flat, powerful one-handed backhand was just glorious! I can't recall another player hitting a one-handed backhand THAT hard!
That’s true, I can’t think of another female player who hit the one handed bh quite that hard. Henin and Mauresmo obviously had far better backhands overall but they didn’t have quite that level of pace.
@@christopherproietti645 I have to disagree. Of course, I was also fond of her game, but her backhand was very weak. Here we have a match on very quick surface that's why it may seem that her backhand is almost lethal. She was also very slow that's why she wasn't able (during her short career on WTA) to produce better scores
Alexandra’s all-court game was SUCH a joy to watch. It’s a shame that injuries robbed her of clearly foreseeable success.

I’m convinced that Alexandra Stevenson and Madison Keys are the same person. The only difference is their backhand production.
