The German episode of FT was genius. The laughter was at Faulty's behaviour, not at the German guests.
Pretty sure the offence comes from the Major's use of the N-word more than the German jokes.
@@biggingeryeti he doesnt use the n word - he says wogs
tell that to the literal people - they will only see offence
@@slimjim4239 he says both actually
@@BarryTheBeef Correct.
NEVER absolutely NEVER did I see or look for offence in Little Britain. I saw comedy, send up, fun. People are really really messed up.
What are you talking about about? We knew it was terrible then
There is no need for censorship. The vintage, the original setting, context and intent are always important to bear in mind. Comedy, entertainment, books, plays etc. But if you flap your gums online, comment on stuff you have little or no real knowledge about and/or make ridiculous or fatuous remarks, don't be surprised if other people do not share your viewpoints and may even comment in direct opposition to you. It's called freedom of speech and freedom of expression. It cuts both ways.
In my experience, the people most offended by having their views challenged are on the right - they get so angry when you challenge their narrow worldview, and honestly that gives me life. Still, a shame.
The most banned person by the BBC was George Formby, the cheeky little plucker, though this was mostly radio rather than TV. Gerorge's songs were considered too risque for the BBC back in the day.
The last example, "Have I got News For You", it was *PERFECTLY CORRECT* to bleep out the bulk of Ian Hislop's comments, When a case is before the courts, it is *SUBJUDICE* and *ALL* comments made about the case beyond the fact that it's taking place can earn time in prison for the commenter, network manager and programme producer for *CONTEMPT OF COURT!*
You say that but the list Hislop was going through with regards being sacked was at that point widely known and reported; sacked by The Times for making up bogus quotes in 1988, sacked by Michael K Howard's Tories in 2004 for lying about his various relationships and infidelities at the time.
@@earttu Whether truth or lies, court cases should not be discussed until a final verdict has been handed down.
The question is: is still bleeped now that the court case is over or can we hear and watch what was said? BBC, what did you archived?
Faulty Towers German episode was hilarious.
Some people just don’t have a sense of humour.
The clip isn't very clear on what was edited out, it was the clip about cricket with extreme racial slurs, removing it doesn't distract from the episode, broadcasting it any time in the last 30 years would be rightly condemned.
And dont mention the war.
@@AndrewLakeUK As the audience, we're laughing at the ridiculous, hilarious things the major says. No-one's agreeing with him.
@@andrewq159 Perhaps most were, but the language used is unbroadcastable.
Also people miss the point that Basil had a concussion and that's why he acted in such an outrageous manner. His filter was gone.
It annoys me that, the likes of Walliams and Lucas have to apologise for making their TV Show. As previously commented, it is comedy! It is aimed at the bigots in this country. I think their show 'Come Fly With Me' is fantastic
If people don’t like it they don’t have to flipping watch it, I dread to think how these snowflakes would of coped in the real world in the 70s! I was 20 then and if someone said anything inappropriate to me I would just laugh at them or tell them to do one + tv was funny then 🤗
Little Britain normalised bigotry; it didn't satirise it.
In “the real world “ of the 1970’s shows like “Love Your Neighbour” and “‘til Death Us Do Part” were aimed at making fools of racists and misogynists. Unfortunately racists and misogynists were empowered by them Warren Mitchell, who played bigoted Alf Garnett, would often tell those fools, we aren’t laughing with you we are laughing at you, you morons. The morons didn’t understand nuance. They still don’t - and scream “woke’ at everything (used to be political correctness gone mad” but “woke” is easier to spell). They don’t know what woke means either - just a buzz word in the phony so-called culture wars. .
I watched one episode of it. Thought that was quite funny but I think I've seen all the jokes now. And thus didn't bother with any more.
"It is aimed at the bigots in this country". I think you're really overreaching with that thought. Little Britain was always bottom of the barrel comedy. There's no clever satire going on there.
Lineker's criticism wasn't of the government's policy, but of the language they were using to dehumanise migrants
Ghostwatch is a surprising omission.
People thought that broadcast was real, resulting in controversy and the show being pulled for decades.
Ghostwatch wasn't censored, though; it went out uncut. It was banned from rebroadcast later after people complained and a teenager killed himself.
@@dudstep You're not wrong. But if this list can include episodes not being sired until decades later or a presenter not going on a show, Ghostwatch being pulled from syndication seems fair.
Besides, it's a fascinating topic.
Hilariously and ironically the type of person that complains about Little Britain are the kind of person that Matt Lucas & David Walliams were poking fun at in many of their sketches. The series perfectly summed up the country and the the many different but ultimately similar types of Britons at that time and arguably still sums it all up now, imo.
My Grandmother (rest her soul) once refused to eat Apples that she bought at a market stall, handled by an Indian man. She actually had to heave. It was the 70s but how accurate Little Britain was for portraying such individuals. My Gran was a bigot and would often rant at the ethnic minorities. We as kids had loads of friends from Jamaica and Pakistan and we would often just laugh at her. She loved watching Alf Garnett
Doesn't people realise that Little Britain isn't meant to be taken seriously?
I once had a friend who was racist (hence no longer a friend) who asked me why I watched Little Britain because it was racist. I pointed out that most of the sketches were mocking the ignorance and stupidity of racists . Having said that, blackface is a no and there were characters (incontinent woman, woman who just made ah ah ah sounds) which are difficult to see in any light except mocking disabilities.
Neither was Jeremy Corbyn
Millions of people strongly object to blackface regardless of the context.
@@evo5dave Every time "Anne" said ah ah ah I laughed my head off. I must be a terrible person.
@@staceykeeley4219 There's lots of things I found funny in the past that, with hindsight, were not funny or were offensive. We live and learn.
CENSORSHIP IS THE DEATH OF FREE SPEECH

Little Britain is brilliant. Glad I didn't grow up in today's world.
Literally every episode is the same joke over again. It's not funny at all.
This CZcams uploader seems to be missing the fact that it was the BBC who made and produced all these programmes in the first place, when the commercial broadcasting companies were all playing it safe and cowering in the corner.
This is why physical media remains important.
This ^^^
I loaded the 2 inch video tape of the war game at vt44 at television centre for it's first transmission.
Little BRITAIN is a winner everytime i see a politician i hear Tom Baker
Last Christmas the BBC broadcast a programme called ‘Madonna at the BBC’, featuring live performances and clips of videos. The video for ‘Like a prayer’ was heavily censored.
In a recent issue of Doctor Who Magazine Russell T Davies mentions he only discovered, when sorting out getting all of the Sarah Jane Adventures onto the iplayer that the fifth season story 'the curse of clyde langer' had been marked do not use, because a complaint against it was upheld in that it had shown a style of totem that the native american tribe they said had made it wouldn't actually have used. So he had the episode re-edited so it could be shown again.
About 79-80 there was a sunday night thriller show called 'Blood Royal' Drama about a minor member of the royal family being kidnapped. But it got changed shortly before broadcast to 'Blood Money' and the victim turned into son of an industrialist. Because someone in the royal family had complained.
There was the 1969 science fiction show 'Counterstrike' where the episode 'to suffer a witch' about a witch burning, was pulled before broadcast. And never shown. Not sure if it still exists. It might have been wiped.
And third season Doomwatch episode 'Sex and violence' was never shown because in a montage of news footage in it it used footage of a real military execution by firing squad from Nigeria. This episode was released on dvd decades later though.
This is why i import certain dvds
There was another Mmonty Python sketch that wasn't transmitted by the BBC. It was the cocktail bar sketch which subsequently appeared in their stage shows. Twist of Lemming?
Cotton wool kids that will eventually come face to face with the real world. It will likely be a massive shock to them.
My husband, whom is German loves the German episode of Fawlty Towers.
If “Secret Society” and the episode of “Newsnight” were never shown, how have you managed to get clips for this video?
It is funny that they censored Monty Python for a urine drinking sketch. Ten years later, they had a whole ship crew knowingly drink it in Blackadder II. Then they passed it off as wine at the end of the episode!
So what about Doctor Who? The Deadly Assassin and The Talons of Weng-Chiang?
The Deadly Assassin Episode 3 cliffhanger was cut from reruns and on streaming services. Only available on DVDs, and was even cut from the original tape, the only reason We have it cause of an American copy.
And every other line of The Talons of Weng-Chiang. I believe they had to show a disclaimer before reruns.
This show the importance in commercial television with quality investigative journalism which is something I think is lacking in the UK.
A lot of the time it's all about keeping up outside appearances, and making sure people don't see deeper than the surface level of many subjects.
No one has a sense of humour anymore.
Title could read: Why hardly no one watches the BBC anymore
We're getting so paranoid about offending somebody (even if just a little bit), that we're about to get rid of media altogether.
One problem, some of them are on DVD box sets.
In that case, you must phone the authorities immediately and they will send a man round who will dispose of them for you.
Let’s just lock ourselves in wardrobes.
Pathetic! How did the UK, where humour was always out of the box and innovative, censor some its best programmes?
6:20 The fellow on right of screen looks like he could be Josh Widdicomb's(Adam Hills' Last Leg) older brother!
Mary Whitehouse was a 🐮.
BBC used to be a superb sourch of great comedy. No longer, sadly
I thought little Britain was fabulous and some people just need to get up themselves
Because you're uneducated.
WHAEY! Your UK narrator has learnt to say BBC! This is approved by BibbySee!
Top Cat was sort of censored - it was broadcast as Boss Cat, although apart from a half hearted attempt to cover up the name in the credits, nothing else changed. I also think some episodes of Looney Tunes were censored too, specifically those that featured alcohol. Surprisingly the Beeb didn't mind Bugs Bunny getting into drag, which he did regularly.
The Beeb and The Royal Family are good at covering up and protecting sex offenders.
To answer the number 10 question excuses the pun. The tories run bbc that's why the laughter was censored on boris and not on corbyn.
I know Hale & Pace wasn't the BBC but there's several clips from the series that you can't even find on CZcams these days! :(
Thank For The Video 🙊🤯🥰💕😍👍
“Nobody is watching our WatchMojo videos because it’s not 2014 anymore, so we’ll do this culture war stuff instead”

I've got every single episode of the goodies on DVD yes every single episode
Did lord Buckethead not get his 30 minutes?
Little Britain is, and always will be, sophisticated viewing that needs to be taken seriously 😂
But hey lets get serial killer documentaries on mainstream TV...
Didn't the BBC ban the song Funky Moped by Jasper Carrot back in the day? (Correct me if I'm wrong). And everybody went out to buy it to see what the fuss was all about, and it got to number 1. I think anytime anyone bans, censors or forbids something, people will want to see/hear it. So it has the opposite effect in the long run.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood also went to number one after Relax was banned on the BBC
No they banned the other side Magic Roundabout. Funky Moped was played instead and got to number 5 in 1975.
@@otters61 ...... but why did they ban "magic roundabout" ?
@@grantross2609 Possibly drug and sexual references as it was based on the Children's tv show
Would add The Mighty Boosh to the list for similar 'cultural appropriation' shenanigans. Fortunately I still have them all (plus the extra bits and bobs) on DVD. It allows me to exercise my inner gammon. 😄 I find Matt Lucas and David Walliams 'regret' over their career making programme as regrettable as Frankie Boyle's lamentation of his earlier material. It must be handy having all those 20 quid notes to wipe the tears away.
Brimstone & Treacle, is one of the darkest Black comedy films you could watch. Surprised it was shown on tv in 87 at all when they were showing more graphic shows like I Claudius at the same time this play was made, surely it could have been shown then.
My goodness its many many years since I've seen any BBC, and never missed it, its just biased rubbish
Things that fail to resonate usually fail to titillate. The BBC has a terrible record of ‘protecting’ us from content that they themselves commissioned. One of the best example is their refusal to show Monty Python and the rationale given for the decision. Basically it is/was less about content and more the fact that the Pythons were university educated white and make.
The Goodies should have got a mention but I suppose you can't do them all. Graeme Garden is a bit miffed the show doesn't get repeated but there are certainly a few awkward moments in there. An example being they did blackface on more than one occasion.
I'm surprised the episode of Star Trek The Next Generation "The High Ground" which wasn't shown unedited until 2006, all because a fictional character made a reference to a fictional event, ie the Unification of Ireland in 2024.
It wasn't the event that was the issue but the fact that the IRA terrorists won via there campaign of killing innocents, plus in the Republic of Ireland it was also edited and as far as I know still not been broadcast in full.
@@edwardhuggins84 According to Wiki, it wasn't aired in full until 2006 in the UK, 2007 in Ireland.
hard to believe.......
As far as little Britain goes I don’t see the problem cause it’s not different then tracey ullman playing stereotypical black and Indian characters and I loved that max had little Britain when it launched then it vanished seemingly out of the blue and it was a go to show for me on the platform
There was a "comedy" created in 1990 (I think) by the BBC called "Heil Honey I'm Home",, it was about the Hitlers living in London next door to a Jewish couple, imagine the laughs the people had watching the pilot, It was cancelled. I think this was the same time they canned Benny Hill.
It was made by British Satelite Broadcasting and aired on their Galaxy network, cancelled after airing one episode and not long after BSB merged with Sky to form British Sky Broadcasting, and replaced Galaxy with Sky One, etc.
@@IMEEntertainment Oh right, thanks for clarifying that!
@@adamhopkinson6363 You're welcome.
First time I've ever felt sorry for the Beeb.
And I loathe them from the very core of my being.
I liked Bo Selecta, but that's been cancelled now, and the bloke playing Avid Merrion (and the completely unfunny Keith Lemon) has pathetically apologised for it.
Comedy changes fast, how long till even some of the shows we enjoy now are targeted?
And a bunch of stuff that was once banned is now easily accesible.
The #10 should be the #1...
The Far Left says the BBC is "Tory". The Far Right says it is "Marxist". The BBC uses this fact to argue that it's not politically biased at all. How could it be when its critics are saying mutually-contradictory things?.... But that simply doesn't follow. Firstly, a distinction can be made between the BBC's general editorial policy and its programmes and shows. A distinction can also be made between the BBC leadership and everyone else who works for the BBC. Thus, some shows are outright biased and some aren't. Some people who work for the BBC are obviously party-political and others aren't... I'd say that, editorially, the BBC is culturally (not politically or economically) liberal-left (i.e., certainly NOT "Marxist"). Some bigwigs (controllers) at the BBC do have strong ties to the Tories. But others (such as comedians, documentary makers, etc.) have strong ties to leftwing ideologies, groups and parties. So it is indeed complicated. However, this complexity doesn't negate BBC political bias, which is often downright obvious... So people pick and choose BBC examples of political bias according to tribal affiliations. Thus, those on the Left who were disgusted by the Lineker Affair were never previously disgusted by the BBC's banning of various (non-leftwing) comedians, doctoring of comedies with politically-incorrect content , the obvious "Woke bias" of EastEnders, etc. Similarly, the Right picks and chooses too when it comes to the BBC... But, again, none of this partisanship stops the BBC from actually being politically biased.
The BBC has been right wing for years. Just look at how they handled Lineker's tweet. They can't have people telling the truth about the government now can they.
People need to grow up and get a sense of humour in my opinion
@@Raulsta1985 Bigoted comedy & punching down is not funny. For the most part right wing comedians don't do comedy It's just right wing talking points spoken to a right wing audience.

Censorship is fascism. Remember that.
Mary Whitehouse was nothing compared to the Fascists censoring now.
Fascists like the Tory government.
Regarding Linekar, it's his reference to Nazis that was the issue, not his criticism. What else are you 'leaving ' out in this show?
It was because many right wingers can't handle the truth about our fascist Tory government & that includes The BBC as a very right wing organisation.
More people tuned in to that episode of match of the day without the dull, predictable punditry.
Yet bbc didn't learn the lesson and allowed them to come back the following week.
And Gary Lineker shot himself in the foot by doing what he did, because everyone stopped talking about the issue and it became all about him.
What a disgrace we are losing our sence of humour, comedy is comedy for God sake, they should be taking any form of violence in films of the BBC if they are going to go down that road, retired lifeboatman
Nothing should be censored. Snowflakes be snowflaking.
I totally agree with you.
All these wokes and snowflakes get on my tits.
So, let pederasts and paedophiles have their own free-to-air channel?
Have you really thought this through?
You want snuff movies and child rape to be televised because you're a cretin.
It’s the right wing like Mary Whitehouse that call for censorship . It was the right wing that censored Gary Lineker. Thatcher a notorious right winger stopped the military secrets program from being aired. As for Little Britain do you think black face is acceptable 🤬

The BBC is a miniscule part of how people watch programmes these days- you want to watch ANY of these programmes, watch elsewhere
Did BBC fire Ludovic Kennedy because he said to many black faces on BBC?
So many racist people in these comments 💀 I guess people overreacted about minstrels too

The bbc is publicly funded and so should be following the Will of the people. All shows should be free to view after they have been shown once on a streaming service for all time. The bbc should leave shows alone unedited and untouched regardless of how tasteless others might find it. I feel it is theft when they refuse to allow people to watch any show made by the bbc after it has been paid for by the tax payer
That's not how copyright law works. The "taxpayer" does not pay for the BBC nor own any of its programmes.
To make them free to view for all time you would need to negotiate residuals agreements with all those involved. With old shows that can take a lot of time and effort.
The BBC belong in Russia
left wing bias
It was because of blm which has nothing to do with us brits its yank thing even the simpsons had the blackface issue with apu but many indians and blacks love him and his character and i dont at all support blm not even in 2020 and not now
@jj - black face has been considered offensive for decades here in the US, since long before BLM. It wasn't just used by whites to parody Africian-Americans, but was for a time a requirement for black actors to perform on stage. The logic behind requiring a black actor to wear black face escapes me.
Speaking as a white male actor and veteran of live theatre, I would argue that black face is a legitimate part of performance art. However, like full frontal nudity, black face needs to be used sparingly, and in an appropriate context. Doing either for "shock value" or laughs are not such a context.
@@ajkleipass this was a 2000's comedies and americans shouldn't get a say in brittish shows same way as brits shouldnt get a say in American shows

Shows like the black and white minstrel show were huge for a while, but haven't been repeated since the late 70s due to the blackface.
Most of the problems with Little Britain was because they kicked downwards, going mostly for easy targets who couldn't fight back, it was lazy unimaginative comedy that mostly relied on the viewers disbelief they did what they did.
