They don't have guys that're good at calling hockey in the play by play roles in particular
In the States the brodcasting rights should go 100% to TNT for national games
think stars fans and vegas fans can agree, the ESPN team is leagues below both the local teams and the TNT team. The ESPN guys even kept calling Robo Robinson
Which is why I was so thankful to be able to watch the local Scripps broadcast (at least for the first round). ESPN are just awful.

No idea why ESPN is so popular - their hockey coverage is trash. At least we Vegas locals can watch the local feed this first round.
And yet they get Nick Robertson’s name right every time (Jason’s little brother who’s a 4th liner for Toronto)
Dallas didn’t play that bad after the first period but can’t dig yourself a hole like that

I'm not sure who you were listening to, but the Scripps broadcast (VGK announcers) were stellar. Love Shane and Dave. I live in Vegas, so I have that luxury...at least through the first round.
Yeah, I also watched the local Vegas broadcast. I thought I'd be happier that way over the ESPN people, and by all accounts it seems I was right.

Was Vegas the only team in round one with an AAV of on ice players overcap? Even with those dressed tonight it was like 750k overcap no where near as bad as teams in the past, and if they had to shave 750k we would be talking line 4 replacements not Stone anyways.

This game felt like like a SCF indeed. I had myself a hysterical laughter that AA Stadium started booing Mark Stone on his first position and not long after in the Pp he gets the first goal and it goes quiet 😂

Vegas PP with Hertl over the last 7 games is 9/17. They are only going to get better.
I just wish the VGK would give a little more push back when playing with a lead. Defensive hockey makes me nervous and 15 total shots for an entire game won’t win most games but I’ll take this one. This is going to be a long series. Loved the intro by the Shannon 😄
Because our defense is that good at full strength. When we have a lead, and you have three line of at least above average Defenseman, and two-way forwards like Stephenson, Stone, Karlsson, and Eichel, that all can make it absolute hell going through the blue line and stopping anyone up front, there’s literally no reason to pump the gas and press more offense. You’re just wasting energy on your offensive forwards. If you noticed, after Dallas scored goal 3, the defensive pressure letup and scoring forwards/combinations were deployed more frequently. It’s an absolute exhausting strategy to play against for other teams when done well, and is the reason why most analysts are saying that Vegas is not going to be an easy out in the slightest. It’s also part of the plan for games 1 and 2 to kind of “wear out” the top forwards for Dallas. Expect game 3 at home to be a gear switch with a sudden burst of offensive pressure. Bruce Cassidy is a playoff mastermind. Trust it.
Vegas could realistically play the same three teams they played last year on the way to the Final.
Florida is in contention as well
BTW NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers also did that in 2017 and 2018 beating Indy, Toronto and Boston both years to make finals against GS both times

Anyway, uh poor start, bad pk, bad pp, oettinger back to being bad. There was some positives. The Stars controlled the play more from second( well after that early goal... ) until the end. So at least it seems they had more pushback. Last year, Vegas just had their way with them.
Gotta have a bounce back or this will be as short as i feared.

As a fellow Stars fan, that was a brutal loss. I though Stars played well after the 1st period, but man, Vegas has an air tight defensive structure. Respect where it's due. I also think Stars were playing through nerves last night. Lots of over-skating pucks, passes that were too hot, dangle attempts while skating a little too fast...I think if Stars calm down a little, they penetrate the forcefield Vegas sets up in the slot and get 1 more goal, and this game goes to OT.
Also "If the announcers sound like they don't care about what's happening on the ice, it's gonna pull you out of the action" 👏👏👏

The scary thing is Vegas played a very sloppy game and seems like they have a lot more to improve upon even in the win. Dallas needs Ottinger to play a lot better for them to have a chance I think.

The knights are now heavy favorite to win. Dropping opening game in your own barn is not a good sign. Its going to be a short series.
Vegas will be in conference finals if they keep their domination over Central division.

Vegas was a pathetic mere 750k over the cap tonight on ice. They could easily be under the cap by simply swapping Howden with Dorofeyev. Who is arguably an even better player.
Dallas played like shit, and the cap had nothing to do with their loss.

Um no, You can’t healthy scratch a 5.2 million dollar player and be cap compliant. That’s not how it works. 😆

Players who are sent down or scratched have up to 1.25 million of their cap taken from your cap amount. So yes by scratching or sending players down you can save up to 1.25 million per player.
People just try to always find something to cry about. Literally any team can do what we’re doing so it’s just funny to me that everyone is crying about it. 🤣 blame the nhl 😢

Sutter's stray foot and honestly that other offside on a breakaway were huge but oettinger letting in 4 and a 0 percent pk is nuts
My pool's looking good so far. Only loss has been Bruins to the Leafs in game 2
when I saw that the normal vgk broadcast got the round 1 rights, I was so relieved. the espn announcers really are so awful sometimes. it was only one game so I'm only tentatively happy, we'll see how the stars rally back in game 2!

Hertl is an amazing addition to vegas. He fits in nicely. Vegas played well, but logan was a little shaky with his first playoff appearance. Next game they should tighten up.

@@daved1535 I disagree if you lose both your home games in the first 2 matches its practically over. The fans and players lose all confidence after that and keeping your head up high is very important in competitions otherwise you start taking fighting penalties and start cross checking people in the head while they fall near you.

Allowing 4 goals on 15 shots just KILLS you. Obviously not every goal was entirely Ott’s fault, but he needs to make a save once in a while. Take notes from Ullmark who almost stole the game for Boston last night. Goalies are allowed to make big saves you know. Not sure what’s happened to Ott over these last two playoffs. Vegas seems to be in his head. Doesn’t resemble the incredible goalie we saw vs Calgary 2 years ago at all
Its amazing how stone can come back from the dead and be the 2nd most TOI for Vegas forwards.
As a Vegas fan, I didn't love this game. While they were good at shutting it down. They were not good at all offensively 5 on 5. The Stone Hertal line looks slow despite being good defensively. I think offensive could be a problem if they don't adjust the lines.
That line has never been played before, and Stone just got back. They got to let them work together and get reps in. I’m glad the defense held the lead from the early game goals, but it was very risky without getting more shots
Honestly they didn’t do bad. Logan was my concern. It could have easily been 4-1 a couple of those goals were shaky. He definitely needs to tighten up.
...They've literally never played together; Hertl's played a whole 6 games with the team and Stone hasn't played in 2 months. Of course they were going to be a bit slow and discombobulated; Stone looked 100% worse game 1 last year.

It's a long series and playoff road, but I'm happy Vegas got the first win.
What is going on with the Central? Avs outshoot Jets 46-23 and lose 6-7, now the Stars outshoot VGK 30-15 and lose 3-4. Same shot ratio, same 1 goal loss. Crazy
I know I am going to get hate for this, but here it goes. Both Vegas' PP goals were on calls that should have not been called. When you raise your stick and cause the other guy's stick hit you, that is not high sticking. There was no penalty on Mush. Take those away, and Dallas is 3 to 2. Then, that offsides in the 3rd was not offsides. How do you miss an ebow to the face right in front of the goal. Refs were in Vegas' back pocket tonight. Dallas needs to fix a few things, and they will win game 2. Okay, okay, the Knights had an "under the cap" roaster tonight, but how do they go out and get Hertl, Mantha, and the other guy if Stone did not cheat the cap? I know the line "cry baby" because Dallas lost." Well, that is shit. That is being mad because your team got screwed by the Golden Bettmans.

While I think Steel's penalty was a good call, i agree the penalty on marchment was phantom and never should've been called. Also the offsides u r 100% right, it wasn't even close. While the refs did interfere the stars should have still won this game, but the defense played like crap and left oettinger out to dry and he wasn't playing his best either. I think Dallas lost this game even more than they got screwed by the refs. Here's to hoping they play better in game 2 though!

My game summary.....Vegas took it to Dallas, unfortunately. I guess the Stars are trying to out-choke the Cowboys in the playoffs (I'm a fan of the Dallas teams, so I can recognize choking quite easily).
Even if the Stars get swept, they still aren't out choking the Cowboys
