Nadal arrives with a 4-0 lifetime head-to-head over No. 23 seed Khachanov, having won all nine sets they’ve played. But their last encounter, in the semifinal of the Toronto ATP Masters 1000 this summer, was extremely tight: 7-6, 6-4.

This match, a 5 setter against Thiem and an intense 4 set win against Bashilasvili. Nadal had a difficult tournament. He had to retire in the semi against delpo
I know Nadal lost the number 1 ranking in 2018, despite achieving it in 2017 and 2019, but in my opinion, 2018 was his best year out of the three. If he didn't have so many injuries, he would have retained number 1 no doubt.

This was a tough match, very physical. This match started his knee acting up on him, which would derail his run. No worries, he would be back next year and win 4th U.S. Open.
It's an odd year so it looks like it's Rafa's turn to win the US Open this year
