    I bought a new Burgman 400 in February of this year (2022) and have over 15,200 miles on it. If you ride going 65 miles an hour, you might see 65 mpg if you're lucky. I regularly go 80 miles an hour and the engine is screaming at 8,000 rpm's. It's very stable at all speeds and is a joy to ride. The brake lights and headlights are all LED lighting, while all the blinkers are regular light bulbs. Recently my rear brakes were chattering and squealing a bit and the dealer said they were defective and malfunctioning. The dealer is now working with Suzuki to have them replaced under warranty. So far, no issues other than that. I love the scooter and I regularly ride 60-130 miles a day. My longest ride was 4 1/2 hours in one stretch and only stopping for gas. My record number of hours riding in one day was 8. My butt wasn't really sore enough to complain. Still love the bike.

    This bike was tuned for commuting and a lot of it hasn't changed besides engine specs from the 2003-2006 models. My only advice for anyone wanting this for touring and overcoming the power issues while still maintaining this mpg is installing a set of heavier sliders in the CVT, effectively like changing a sprocket on a standard chain trans giving the bike more top end power at the speeds you struggled with while losing a little of the take off power [actually solves itself if you go WOT - still enough torque from this vibey single to move even up to 4 grams heavier weights]

      I've got a 2012 an400 and would love a little extra top end. It currently does 110kph at just over 7000rpm, you can tell it doesn't like revving out so much. The red line's at, 9000rpm. Could you suggest what I could do to solve this problem? Thanks so much.

    My dad's got the older bigger brother, the 650 executive. Despite always riding motorcycles (and still having one) he does absolutely love the thing. It's bulky beast, but it's got quite the acceleration especially in its 'sporty' mode. Might actually be that little bit of extra oomph the 400 sometimes seems to lack.

    When considering the value proposition of the 400, it has one huge advantage; absolutely stunning braking with it's twin front discs, superb ABS and long wheelbase. No scooter with a single front disc will come close. Experienced riders will know that this really matters in the crowded urban grind.

    I tested this a few weeks ago. It was my first time in a scooter. It took me a second to get used to not having pegs under me, but I really like it. That bike really had the best front brake I've tried - the back was mostly non-existent, but the front was good.
    I think UK MPGs rate higher then US MPGs, but 70 MPGS sounds good to me. I'm really thinking about getting one of these
    If I do, I will into doing a cross-country trip on it. I just wish they offered cruise. Honda should be nice and let Suzuki use its DCT on this...I wonder what the new radial quickshifter would be like on this with a shift buttons on the bars....

    This IS a mid range scoot. Same power/less speed than Forza 350. And less luggage space. It's not only NOT cheap. It's crazy expensive for what it is. I would definitely consider the Honda at £5,800, than this at £7,000.

  • @Nooziterp1

    Compared to the 2012 Burgman I used to have the power is down from 33 bhp to 28, the top speed is down from 90 mph to 85 and the underseat storage is down from 62 litres to 42. And my legs stayed dry in the rain. Hmmm... I think I would still have one though.

      Yamaha have done the same with the new xmax 125,
      They have put the engine from the nmax 125 in it which is only 11hp much to small for a big scooter, the euro 4 has a 15hp 125 engine which is capable of 80mph
      The new euro 5 is terrible

    I have the 2009 model, with some upgrades. Full malossi transmission (front and back) and a givi windshield (windflow) makes it in this set-up a very nice maxiscooter. Acceleration is much better. At topspeed 160km/h the revs don't go in the redzone. And the windshield gives you the feeling like sitting in a cocoon.

  • @cyclist3969
    @cyclist3969 Před 2 lety +3

    £6995 for the Burgman 400 is difficult to justify when the Honda Forza 350 is £5699, the Forza has the benefit of an electrically-powered raise/lower windshield, a good feature for the issue of wind buffeting around the rider's crashhelmet at speed. The Forza seems to match the Burgman in all areas for less money and more options for body colour, I have noted pre-registered zero-mile Burgmans for as low as £5995.

    The x max / forza and all the other scooters are not a match for the Suzuki you can't by one of them now as true 400cc and all have twin shocks, and the ride quality is nowhere near the Suzuki
    they are all no paper very similar but in reality, they ride nothing like each other although I have to agree the Suzuki is no faster, but that is missing the point none of them are built for performance they are built for convenance.
