  • Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive Review
    The Burgman 650 is a luxury, large-capacity super-scoot, with a strong, reliable 638cc parallel-twin engine, putting out 54bhp. It has an automatic gearbox with manual override and sports mode, and can touch 120mph where permitted.
    The chassis is well up to the power, and handling is very good for a small-wheeled machine. The brakes feature a good ABS system, the suspension has preloads adjustment on the rear, and there’s better ground clearance than on many smaller scooters.
    It’s the bodywork and equipment that clinches the usability deal though. The Burgman 650 is bigger than the Yamaha T-Max, and has both better weather protection and more storage space under the seat. The top-spec Executive version has an electric windscreen and powered folding mirrors (which makes traffic-splitting easier), plus heated grips and even a heated seat. The pillion accommodation is also expansive, especially with the optional top box back rest.
    The 650 Burgman is a little on the large side for really hardcore city traffic-jam duties, but the good steering lock helps get through many gaps. Add hard luggage to the underseat space and you have the luggage capacity of a small sports car. As a middleweight luxury tourer or extended commuter, it makes a lot of sense.

    I have the Executive version of this bike with the electrically adjustable screen and the fold in mirrors that you mentioned. I agree it has plenty of storage but the top box that can be added in place of the pillion backrest gives a bit more storage. The Burgman holds its own on the open road with the cruisers, sports bikes and tourers. The CVT is responsive but the manual mode is handy for highway riding because it provides an extra gear for improved fuel economy. In my opinion the Burgman is the benchmark for maxi scooters. The Aprilla is bigger but not as well equipped and the TMax is a smaller engine and did not have the electrically adjustable screen when Suzuki stopped selling them in Australia. I previously owned a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager and loved it as well as the Burgman. I now have a Can Am Spyder and I love it but not more than the Burgman. Thanks for sharing your review. This is my Scoots Big Brother.
    Mine = 2006 Silver Burgman 400
    They look remarkably similar, mines just a tad smaller.
    If this one's a linebacker, mines a running back lol.
    I just toured 4000 mile interstate Tour to SoCal from my home in Almost, LA.
    All I needed was more power...I can see yours has it.

    Great review, well done. Have you tried it for two-up riding/touring? I'm considering purchasing one, but wondering if a shock upgrade would be required for a pillion and luggage.

    • @samihasib
      @samihasib  Před 2 lety +1

      I have done some long toures - solo.
      Both shocks are soft and will surely benefit from an upgrade if you are riding with a pillion.
      Rode safe.

      Maybe a burgman 400 is also a option.
      It's a gratis bike for commuting and me and the wife is no problem on the highway so a 650 will handle this with-out a problem.

    • @hhadra9780
      @hhadra9780 Před rokem

      I've done two up touring. 1st off, wind protection for pillion isn't obviously as good so take that into consideration. Never had a complain from the rider tho. Handling was great and felt solid and safe. Power is plenty for overtaking. Braking is very solid (double front disk brakes and ABS is fantastic, plus rear disc brake). So much space under the seat for luggage.
      It is a heavy bike (about 280 kg) and its a challenge maneuvering while parking or when leaving parking because it sits low and you cant control it with your thighs/legs like you can a taller bike. But my recommendation for this bike. Its a phenomenal piece of equipment and very dependable. Consumes about 6.5 liters in town and about 4.5-5.0 liters on the open road.

    What mounting device did you use with your Quad Lock phone holder
    There appears to be about 20 or 30 different options
    Obviously it needs the flat mount to cable tie to the rear brake master cylinder. Is it 2 different pieces or just one

    It‘s pretty sad, if you‘re looking for a 2 wheeled daily driver, this is still your best option. No manufacturer these days sells something even remotely like this (in Europe at least) besides Kymco with their AK 550 but that isn‘t as good and costs almost double as a used Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive. Every maxi scooter on the market is some weird sport scooter. There simply are no GT scooters being offered. The Burgman is what I‘ll go for eventually unless the market adapts to my preference.

      @@samihasib I own one too and I'm 6'4". I bought mine used, and it came equipped with an aftermarket saddle that makes me wish I could scoot my butt farther back. Other than that, I absolutely love mine, and I've owned 3 different Goldwings. It'll cruise at 90 mph as long as you keep fuel in the tank. Top end is between 105 and 110 MPH. The hand operated parking brake works as advertised BUT... there's no telltale light to tell you it's on. I've gotten on, and ridden away several times with it on. (not so good for brake pads). It should be good for two up; I'm around 290 pounds and my bike rides as good as I could wish with the shock pre-load set to its highest setting. I get, generally, around 50 MPG, about the same as my Goldwings got.
