I have this door and absolutely love it! We just got into chickens this spring, built a coop, and installed this door from the get go. It has worked flawlessly since we started. I had a hiccup when it got stuck on one of the programming screens, but I just took the batteries out for a minute to let it reset and it’s worked ever since. I can’t sing the praises of this door enough. If your on the fence about purchasing, jump off and go order it now! 😊🐓
Great review of the product! We love it although we've only had it five days now. I'm so happy that Chickcozy sent us this to review! Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
I’ve never seen that brand before. So awesome that you got this to trial.
I was excited and it has lived up to expectations, so far. Thanks for watching, Annette!
I'm right there with you I wanted an automatic door for a while.
I've never seen one I really liked
though they're all pretty much the same but this one looks pretty cool.
It would really be nice if it had a solar adapter as well
Most of the time with the coop inside the corncrib we don't even close the coop door, this would definitely be nice during those colder days when I don't feel like running back out to the coop.
The price seems to be in line with many of the other automatic doors.
If you had a small solar panel, that could provide 12 volts, it would be perfect for this product. It doesn't take much power to open (or keep the memory). I bet you could find something that would work. Let me know if you do. It might be worth me installing the panel on the outside of our barn door. Cheers!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm yes some sort of an inverter to convert the power..
@@cericson3426 I'll look around. I thought I saw a solar panel with an inverter.
Great addition to your chicken coop. Kind of like having a chicken Nanny😊I like that it opens sideways instead of up and down..
The Chicken Nanny! I love it! The sideways operation is such a benefit, in my opinion! We love it. Thanks for stopping by!
That will certainly be a helpful addition. Looks like they figured it out pretty quickly.
It's been a great addition to the Farm! We all love it! Cheers Chuck!
I'm FINALLY getting this door after tons of research...I like that it opens from the middle instead of the guillotine style doors...I feel like it's safer!❤❤🐓
We're going to get a second one. It's a real winner. I also like how it opens (much safer!). Keep us updated on your thoughts after you get the door. Cheers!
Love it! I'm excited to try this!!
You'd love it and it would be a great addition to your Farm!
Never saw that brand before. Super cool door! Great review. Love how you adapted it to your large barn door
It really works slick after I figured out how to adapt it to the metal barn. Thanks for stopping by, Lisa!
Thank you for this review! I have given alot of thought to getting an automatic door. Glad to hear your review for this one.
You'd love this door. The side-to-side design is great and this has worked flawlessly since we got it. Use the link in the description as I think you get a discount. Let us know if you get one. Cheers Dawn!
Ohhh nice! We have ducks and chickens together and I always have to make sure the ducks go in. They aren’t as easy as the hens that way. We’ve making a new coop for our new girls. That would be a great addition. Glad to hear it works well
It works great! If you use the link, I believe you can also receive a discount on the door. Let us know if you get one! Cheers Lisa!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm if we do, I’ll definitely use your link My son is loving the little saw you reviewed. He uses it almost daily clearing out briars
Ohhh I’m excited for this! We been looking for one of these and I love how this one works. Definitely getting one!
It has worked flawlessly since we got it. The hens love it (and so do we!). Use the link in the description and I believe you receive a discount. Let us know if you get one and if you have any questions. Cheers!
That sure looks handy! I’m glad you found a solution.
It works great for us! Thanks for stopping by Cady!!
I love it! Reminds me of jumpers exiting a C-130... green light - GO!
You made me laugh with that description! You're spot on! Thanks for the laugh!! Cheers!
How exciting i love it!
It's been a great addition to the Farm. I bet your flock would love it too. Have a great weekend Barb!!
Thanks for a great video today full of information in Tips

@@TheOldSwedesFarm great thank you.
I love our chicken cozy door! I wonder if a solar adapter could be used as a battery backup
I don't know what the voltage requirements are for the door. You'd want to have it matched correctly to not burn it out. With the low battery usage, I'm going to stick with batteries. We have yet to replace batteries after a year+ of usage. If you get it hooked to solar, let us know. Take care!
That’s so cool 😊
It works great! The hens have been happy (as have we). Cheers Melissa!
Nice!! 👍👍
It works great! Thanks for stopping by!!
Looks like a great tool for the farm.
It is awesome! Thanks for stopping by!
Nice review. Do you have a video showing how you adapted it to the metal? I’ve god siding of a similar profile and thought this door might be easier to adapt than the vertical lift ones. I’ve been looking and can’t even find a picture of the back of the door to help me understand what I might need to make it fit. If it’s not too heavy, there’s always the possibility it might work better installed into the 1cm wire mesh (warm climate) door.
Thank you for the idea for a video! I just had another person asking about this too! I'll try to get a video out ASAP for you! It's pretty easy to adapt and I hope my way of constructing the supports will work for you. Thanks again for the idea! Have a great weekend!
Great video ! I'm interested in something like this for the new coop we're building. Really, I prefer solar power, but batteries are cool too. I won't be running electricity out to the coop. Would you consider updating us on the battery life in the future? Some of the door openers that I've seen with a battery option say they only last for a few days ! 6 months sounds amazing in comparison !
We've had this installed for over two months now. I just checked and it shows the battery life at 100%. It really doesn't use much power each day to open & shut the door. So far, so good! We highly recommend this door. You can use the link in the description to buy one (and I think there is a discount). Cheers!
You mentioned that you have lights on in the coop when they go in for the night, are the lights absolutely necessary for the girls to go in? And if they are, are they on a timer or anything to shut off layer? Thanks for reviewing, it looks like a great addition!
*to shut of later..
We have lights in the barn that are on from 6am - 10pm every day. It gives them the necessary light in the winter to continue laying. It also gives continuity for light for the hens. We've got a video "How To Train Free Range Chickens To Return To Your Coop" that shows the lights pretty well later in the video. We use large floodlights to keep the entire barn lit. It's not too bright but the light will shine out the door, so the girls will see it and head in at dusk. I don't think it is 100% necessary but it sure helps them return to "home." I hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching Sue!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm thank you!
I’m interested in this brand because it’s plastic and opens from the sides. But I have questions and maybe you can answer them. So I have had the “Extreme” Chicken Guard door since the beginning (3 1/2 years) and I absolutely love it. But it opens/closes differently. New coop, I’ll need it to open a different way. I’m looking at the track on yours (at the bottom). We know chickens will get stuff stuck on their feet from time to time. I’d love to know any solutions to keep the track clean and/or if it gets easily gunked up and if it affects the closing of the door? I framed my door out (orig coop) and that helps. But I don’t have any tracks on the bottom (just the sides). So I’d love to know more about that. New chicks come next month and we’ll start building the new coop shortly afterwards. So I’m actively looking for a door.
I think you'd love this door. I've been watching the track. So far there hasn't been much "gunk" in the door. It's been dry and sunny so not much chance for mud. I'll keep watching this for you. Check back with me and I can send some photos in a few weeks.
@@TheOldSwedesFarm that would be awesome. Thank you!!! I’m so used to only thinking about the 6 month battery life, and that’s it. But I also need a door that opens a different direction. So thank you for keeping an eye on that. I’ve looked at a couple of other doors. Either they’re metal or they don’t look like they secure very well. This looks like it might be my solution. So yes, I’ll get back with you. TY.
@@graceandfire This one is very secure. Security is my #1 priority with the flock. If you adhere it to wood with the six screws, you're all set! Let's keep talking before you look for your door. Have a great weekend!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm will do!!! You too!
We have this door and the bottom of the door track is about even with the floor of the coop. (Note the door in this video, the hens step up to.) Because of that, we have had many problems when the weather turns damp, the hens will kick bedding debris into the track, and the dampness tends to cause the debris not to fall free. The door will try to close 3 times, then will stay wide open. Unfortunately, we did not figure out what was happening right away and lost a hen to a predator because the door was open. So my recommendation is that you need to figure out some kind of guard if the door is close to the same level as the coop floor. It is too bad because it is a great door. We have had the same batteries in for 6 months and they are holding their charge well.
How big is your biggest chicken or breed? We want one but have a tall rooster and we have 2 big lavenders and 3 big wyandottes and the doors seem small for the bigger birds
We've had large birds get through this. We had large Sapphire Gems and large Buff Orpington hens. No problem for them. When they want to get in (or out), they get through with no problems. Hope this helps. You can click the link in the description and get a discount on this door. Our hens love it (and so do we)! Cheers!
Amazing 🤗🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🚪👍
It works really well! THanks for stopping by!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm I just wonder if a fox can come in as well.
@@gardentours Not the foxes around here. The door is too small for a fox, racoon, dog, etc. Maybe a smaller skunk can. It can't keep all the predators out but most will not fit.
How wide is it when the doors are open?
The opening is 7 3/4" wide and about 10 1/4" tall. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions.
Ive seen these and i want one, i dont even have chickens 🤣
Definitely worth the money imo !!
You don't use plates right ?
Cheers J&C 🌱👍🇸🇪🇺🇸👍
Plates? Not sure I understand?
@@TheOldSwedesFarm heating plates
@@clivesconundrumgarden We do not heat in any way. The hens are bred for cold weather and hardy. We also use deep litter that gives off heat all winter.
its been 6 months is it till working goog?
Every day it opens and closes and the hens use it daily. The battery still shows 100%. It's worked flawless! Cheers!
Is this door still working well for you?
It rocks! The hens love it and we love it! We closed the barn early tonight and the girls put themselves inside. The door shut on schedule!! If you need one, use the link in the description. I believe you receive a small discount! Let us know if you get one. Your hens would love it!
