I needed to pick up some new batteries for my 3 Canon cameras. The Canon EOS R, the Canon EOS R6 and my newest Canon the EOS R7. But I really didn't want to pay canon prices. So I decided to try the new SmallRig Canon LP-E6NH Battery Set. The SmallRig Canon LP-E6NH Battery Set comes with 2 batteries and a dual charger. I ended up buying 2 sets. The real question is ... how do the SmallRig Canon LP-E6NH Batteries compare to the official Canon LP-E6NH batteries? Well, I'm gonna see how close they are and if the SmallRig Canon LP-E6NH Battery Set is worth the price.

Very curious how it holds up long term which is the real test. While SmallRig is a known brand I have a hunch their battery cells aren't any better than most 3rd party.
Past 10yrs I've bought 20-30 Fuji 3rd party batteries from different brands and almost all of them die after about a year of medium/heavy use. The OEM Fuji ones still working great after 8yrs. In the long the savings buying cheap 3rd party is offset by how often it is replaced.
The only 3rd party brand I've seen using quality cells lasting as many cycles as OEM is Nitecore. However, they are more expensive than typical 3rd parties.

And how do you feel about them now? Was looking into getting something similar. I'm in Montreal and the closest thing to what you reviewed is a ProMaster USB 2 slot charger with one battery.

Thanks Greg, I usually hesitate on 3rd party batteries but this video has changed my mind about giving them a try. Especially with a recognizable brand like SmallRig.

Many reviewers have addressed the matter of Canon vs. one of the brands. You checked Small Rig. I have been using Wasabi Power for 11 months now. I see Neewer has a similar set of three. Wasabi LP-E6NH will charge in the Canon Charger (unlike the situation with not 'fully chipped' LP-E17 batteries used in smaller Canon cameras). What we have here is an opportunity for someone who makes CZcams videos for a living to compare several brands (most of us have heard of the ones mentioned) and see if there is really any difference worth noting. The battery life in my R7 is sufficient that I do not need more than the three (1 Canon, 2 Wasabi) I have. A question is whether the cameras will last as long as the batteries. My ten+ year old LP-E6 used with my 5DmkII are still good and also work (albeit slowly) in the R7. The question is how these thing do in ten years and when which option swells up and gets stuck in a camera. I have had batteries fail from my 20D, 300D and 30D but that included both 3rd party and original Canon. How often do you toss out fully operational batteries just because they are a few months old? Working pro's can always bill them to the customer. Hobbyists like me who only shoot ~20,000 shots a year have to decide and pay. I have to wonder what factory makes and labels all these options. My genuine (with camera) LP-E6NH is clearly marked 'Made in China'.

I used wasabi brand batteries for a couple years in one of my Nikon cameras and authentic Nikon batteries in my other Nikon camera. When the weather temps get below freezing my Nikon camera with the wasabi brand batteries stops working after being out of my camera bag and in the below freezing temps for about 15 minutes while my Nikon camera using Nikon batteries keeps on taking photos with no problems.

Normal that small rig last less because the capacity is a little less, around 96% of original Canon. Thanks for your video, I will get the fuji version.
