[FFXI] GearSwap Tutorial Video

- This is my first attempt at an informational video that doesn't necessarily have a script but instead uses an outline of bullet points to hit. As a teacher, I feel more comfortable doing a presentation of sorts instead of an edited and polished video. I'll have to try editing to make the next video more concise.
Also, I'm testing the quality of my webcam mic here, and it's not as stellar as I was hoping. Wearing a headset for the next one, for sure.

As a new player, my understanding of the benefit of gearswap is the freedom from in gear set macros.
Very informative video, I am actually about to return to the game after a 6 year hiatus. It is so nice to see that you no longer have to go through the arduous process of scripting out each and every gear swap/abilities/spells. And set up windower meticulously placing each and every file in there designated locations.
Time to start getting some lua files set up on wordpad ++ and color code the language styles for better categorization. Thanks bud^.^y
A best title could be "Look all my armor guide"
It will become increasingly more difficult to show how to use gear swap without also showing the gear that it will be swapping.

what are you using in order to add that subtle bloom effect to your game?
I used ashitacast and I can create my own sets with names under it. It's an easier addon to learn compared to gearswap. What i'm interested in knowing about GEarSwap is whether or not you can identify your own sets?
For example:
sets.precast.WS, is this predefined already? precast,midcast are all predefined functions right?

It's called XIVbar. It should be accessible through Windower's launcher.
porb a stupid question but once you have wrote a lua how do u make windower use it?
That's alright! At 21:34 , you can see the Notepad++ window, and the title shows the folder where you put it. Once it's in the data folder for GearSwap, make sure the lua is named after the job you want to use it with, i.e. if it's called BRD.lua then GearSwap will load it as soon as you switch to BRD on any character.

So i'm a newbie rookie of rookies. Is there a very simple beginner's beginner's guide on gearswap lua stuffs? I'm trying to learn on my own but im not following these videos so easily.

Do you use gearinfo along with GS?
I use it to quickly add up stats like DW. That addon has a lot of potential, but I haven't looked at it closely enough to get more out of it.

Definitely. It's targeted toward individuals with little tech experience, so I take it awfully slow. Fortunately, there are a couple 15-minute tutorials out there that rush through the parts that aren't necessary for some (the why and what of GearSwap). I put in a table of contents so that the length doesn't deter viewers.
Well, a chunk of it had to do with your GEO or mage related concepts. I mean, we get it, you have dark matter augments.

Swapping gear has been a defining feature since the beginning though.
way to make this WAY more complicated than it has to be lol. The in game macro set up is just as easy to use if not easier....I beat ffxi and never used this much of a complicated macro set up. all job to 75 pre-WOTG, Sea, Sky, and reached diablo in dyna.....don't need to do any "pre" just put it on and cast it all in the same macro, go's in order, and then just have a macro to put everything back on as your base....
No problem, lol. Honestly, the intended audience for this video was a group of people in my old linkshell who weren't swapping gear at all and didn't know the benefits, so I took it slow and explained why. I figured the average viewer might feel irritated at how slow it is, so I put in chapters.
GearSwap is much more useful for retail gameplay, where you have plentiful gear options. For example, Fast Cast is easily capped on retail, so it's more obvious when you're missing a pre-cast set. The game's built-in gearset functionality is limited to once every second, iirc, whereas GearSwap forces a gear change whenever it wants. It's definitely overkill for Horizon/Eden, etc.
