I agree, but Copper Blue at the time was the most grossing independent produced label. He had a falling out with Warner Bros. So he went independent. It was a great move for him.
The album is definitely one of the best of the 90s, but back in the day I don’t remember any of my friends buying it except for one, so it was criminally overshadowed by the big grunge bands. This one and the The Act We Act are easily two of the best alt rock songs of the decade IMO.
Love sugar, still the loudest band i ever saw, 1992 in Northampton England. Then later a few more times. Also saw Husker Du in Paris and that was one of the best gigs i ever saw. Bob Mould....a legend!
Coincidentally, I had started a relationship with the first real love of my life around the same I became familiar with Sugar. They performed at the Sunstroke festival in Dalymount Park. There was an excellent lineup that included Belly, Sonic Youth, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and Faith no More as well as Sugar. I don’t there was one bad performance but I think for me, Sugar stood out above the others even though FNM were the the headline act. I recall it being a very warm day with barely a cloud in the sky which at the time was a rare thing in Ireland! Security had to hose us down to keep us cool! To think that was 26 years ago! Time passes but this song is timeless.
Copper Blue is a great CD....Saw Bob live a few years back....One of the loudest shows I have ever heard. Bob has a definitely unique style of playing the guitar.
Another time time after time You make me feel so helpless I I never tried to change your mind I keep it to myself it's Sometimes I've got to tell you Is it this time I'll tell you We've got to go to places Somewhere I don't mind it's special And now you find as time goes by You're left with nothing Meaning much The meaning I will have to try To take your mind to places I wish that I could help you But you seem less than helpless I always tried to tell you Someday that it'd seem so special Time after time what's on your mind You make me feel so helpless I You never tried what's on your mind You make me feel so helpless I I feel so helpless I You're left alone with something And I hope for you it's one thing That something you and yours can Hold and hold as something special And now you find as time goes by You're left with nothing meaning much The meaning I will have to try What's on your mind so helpless I I feel so helpless I
Great memory I have with this song is sitting in a car with some friends, in the back seat right next to what turned out to be a future ex-girlfriend of mine. This song came on the radio and she said "oh, I love this song!" So we both started singing it together. Pretty cool.
Freshman year at University of Western Ontario....heard this track 1st time 29 years ago this month. Thanks Angela Baird. Still one of my favorites period
Classic. Fantastic song, a prime example on what made the early-'90s such a great time to live in. Well-done vid too, for some reason the umbrellas fit and perfectly complement the song well.
definitely one of the most outstanding guitar albums of the 90's... loved it so much had to buy 3 vinyl lp's... they were all destroyed...bought it on cd and still love it, as well as "workbook", "black sheets of rain" and of course "beaster ep"...
This song has been on my playlist as long as my daughters have been on this planet... 20-22 years young and they stop in their tracks when this comes on in 2019 !l Thanks MOULD...
I played this one for my dad back '92 when he was 50 and I was 16, and he said.. "... It sounds like the Beatles ..." ( which is a big compliment obviously, but even more so when my Pop, who doesn't really like anything post-Beatles admires it, too...GREAT TUNE BOB :)
@NotMichaelVoet: Bob is one of those artists that you really have to listen to over and over again to understand. He is a genius with regards to layering sounds. He uses guitar different than a normal guitar player would, he uses it more for effect and melody than rhythm. His hooks are brilliant and his vocal melodies and "harmonies" are unusual. I know this because I'm writing songs with a guitar player friend, and trying to emulate bob's style is extremely difficult, maybe impossible.
At 43, my only exposure to this song has been Face To Face's cover off of "Standards And Practices". Though I prefer that version, Bob Mould is such a GOATed legend
Me too. I remember hearing it first on the college radio station at Texas Tech. I still love this song as much as the first time I heard it...If not more.
Da metal circus in poi è stato un evoluzione continua un mostro di bravura lo adoro in sua qualsiasi forma Hüsker dü per sempre! Un genio e basta.Non c'è altro da dire.
There used to be this radio station in Southern California at this time... Pirate Radio. There was KNAC, which played metal, and KROQ, which was alternative, but Pirate Radio was sort of both. I remember like hearing Metallica and GnR but then Nirvana and Alice in Chains, and this song coming on a lot. Just popped in my head, I don't think I've heard this song since 1993.
c. Rykodisc 1994. And Bob Mould for the world outside of North America. Used by permission. All rights reserved. Bob owns every song he's ever released. So all you Mozart's-in waiting out there, stay in school. So you don't get schooled.
@strif109 Oh, boy - how right you are. "Change Your Mind" is a perfect example of of pop perfection - happy music, sad lyrics, hooks out the wazoo. Cheers.
The most (sadly) underrated album of my lifetime. I hold this masterpiece as nothing short of genius. The record is promem
Absolutely
Bob is a genius...his best work was with Sugar.
I agree, but Copper Blue at the time was the most grossing independent produced label. He had a falling out with Warner Bros. So he went independent. It was a great move for him.
perhaps the most perfect pop song of the 1990's. Bob Mould is so underrated.
Absolutely!
Takes me back to a very specific time just before I entered my 20s every time I hear this. Sugar was terrific. Bob Mould is a national treasure.
Used to watch 120 minutes on Sunday night on MTV way back in 92 or 93 just to hear this song. Great song!!!
The best thing on TV in the 90s.I would be sleeping in home room cause of staying up to watch 120 minutes every night.
Yeah man MTV actually played music then !
It's one of the best albums of the decade.
Copper Blue is one of the most important albums released in 1992.
Bob Mould is genius, this is one of the BEST power-pop songs ever!
Perfect power pop.
funny how some songs can bring tears to your eyes even when the music is beautiful and upbeat...love this tune.
It's a terribly sad song. And one of my all-time favorites.
The album is definitely one of the best of the 90s, but back in the day I don’t remember any of my friends buying it except for one, so it was criminally overshadowed by the big grunge bands. This one and the The Act We Act are easily two of the best alt rock songs of the decade IMO.

Stoked to see Bob Mould & co. perform the entire Copper Blue album tonight.
God I love this song. Bob Mould is my favorite alt songwriter.
bob has a knack for catchy songs but still with that edge to them......love the guy......reaffirmed my faith in pop music.....
one of the great -- if not the greatest -- under appreciated bands of the 90s.
I love Bob Mould's singing style!!!
Thanks, Milo!

Lol
Love sugar, still the loudest band i ever saw, 1992 in Northampton England. Then later a few more times. Also saw Husker Du in Paris and that was one of the best gigs i ever saw. Bob Mould....a legend!
One of the best pop songs of all time. It flies under the radar, which makes it even better.
Jeff Watson Absolutely! I used to blast this in my car in the early 90s when this alternative music ruled
I agree. Bob Mould writes great rocking pop songs that actually mean something. I owe this great music for my sanity, too.
I'm drowning in riffs and loving it!
One of the greatest bands of that time. Captured that wall of sound brilliantly!
This song is still amazing!!!
Dave Barbe on bass. Totally underrated musician.
This is the kind of song I can just listen to over & over again...
I'm back in 2023. See, told you.
This is what a perfect song sounds like.
Been a fan of Bob since the 80's, Husker Du.
I was 14 when I first heard this album, and it was a euphoric experience. It was like falling in love for the first time.

The 90s and Sugar were awesome! I miss them.
Bob Mould is a genius!
Bob Mould's songwriting skills are among the best
What you said...
Saudades dessa época, quando era um jovem sujo que ficava o dia inteiro na frente da MTV vendo e ouvindo essas obras primas!
Copper Blue is my favorite of Bob's work. Just awesome.
Such a memorable song, and yet nobody knows it. Everybody has heard it, but no one knows it.
Not true! there are lot's of us....
When I hear Winter Song riff, I hear Helpless and vice versa.
I do thanks to my brother John. Saw him in concert
Another time time after time
You make me feel so helpless I
I never tried to change your mind
I keep it to myself it's
Sometimes I've got to tell you
Is it this time I'll tell you
We've got to go to places
Somewhere I don't mind it's special
And now you find as time goes by
You're left with nothing
Meaning much
The meaning I will have to try
To take your mind to places
I wish that I could help you
But you seem less than helpless
I always tried to tell you
Someday that it'd seem so special
Time after time what's on your mind
You make me feel so helpless I
You never tried what's on your mind
You make me feel so helpless I
I feel so helpless I
You're left alone with something
And I hope for you it's one thing
That something you and yours can
Hold and hold as something special
And now you find as time goes by
You're left with nothing meaning much
The meaning I will have to try
What's on your mind so helpless I
I feel so helpless I

Play this every time I go home...miss the college days...
My favorite song of all time. There's a kind of aching poignancy that makes me cry, but maybe that's why I love it
I think it is just awesome!!
What a voice and what a man. The best songwriter ever.
Freshman year at University of Western Ontario....heard this track 1st time 29 years ago this month. Thanks Angela Baird. Still one of my favorites period
I love this song!!! I used to own this CD, whole cd is absolutely brilliant!!!
🤘😃🤘
This song is the absolute gem from Copper Blue.
Easily some of Bob Mould's best work! For such a brief flash in the early 90's Mould's fans were blessed with the uber-super tight and fast Sugar..
Where was this song hiding part of my life? Awesome!!
I discovered this album 3 days ago. It's amazing!
Classic. Fantastic song, a prime example on what made the early-'90s such a great time to live in. Well-done vid too, for some reason the umbrellas fit and perfectly complement the song well.
A perfect pop song. Band sounds massive!
this song is magic....pure pop PERFECTION (happy melody - sad lyric - i love you Bob!)
I friggin' LOVE Sugar and this is about as wonderful as it gets!
I never thought this band existed! Just happened upon it! I was looking for sugarcult and I hit the wrong button and it brought me here! I like it!
Then you hit the RIGHT button.
definitely one of the most outstanding guitar albums of the 90's...
loved it so much had to buy 3 vinyl lp's... they were all destroyed...bought it on cd and still love it, as well as "workbook", "black sheets of rain" and of course "beaster ep"...
You have absolutely no idea how many copys of Bob Mould related cassette tapes my car tape decks devored before I could afford a cd player and cds.
This song has been on my playlist as long as my daughters have been on this planet... 20-22 years young and they stop in their tracks when this comes on in 2019 !l
Thanks MOULD...
this is the first song I heard by sugar. it used to play on Cleveland's alternative radio station called the end back in the summer of 1992.8
I played this one for my dad back '92 when he was 50 and I was 16, and he said.. "... It sounds like the Beatles ..." ( which is a big compliment obviously, but even more so when my Pop, who doesn't really like anything post-Beatles admires it, too...GREAT TUNE BOB :)
hanks for posting, brings back good memories, Copper Blue is still one of my all time favorite albums.
Absolute masterpiece! Looked for this video so many times on here! The first Sugar record is a classic! Thanks!
Minha juventude nas noites de Copacabana. Rio de Janeiro. Tantas lembranças rockeiras.

why people dont listen to good music anymore?
I remember when I was 15 in 1992 and I saw on MTV.
in England we had the chart show.
Sugar were a breath of fresh air.
a complete one off 👍🎼🎙🔊
Amazing album!
Utter agreement! A lifetime album!..
King Bob! One of those songs that unfortunately keeps being relevant for me.

Mould's stuff is dense and intense, but so rewarding for repeated listening.
Bob going from Husker Du to Sugar to amazing solo career is McCartneyesque and few people talk about it.
Agree wholeheartedly. This album and song under rated to the max. And splasher just love the word ennui. A classic crossword clue or answer.
i allways loved this song i saw husker du in salt lake city at the indian center 1984.. wow time flys ......great band
BOB is Fucking AMAZING , a Genius !!!
you're left alone with something
and i hope for you it's one thing

hold and hold as something special.

I saw these guys at St Andrews in Detroit on this tour; so loud that it was punishing...and worth it! Amazing show!
my youth....love it so much
good grief! i heard this song one time 15 years ago, all i knew was it was by sugar and for the life of me i could never find this song
I kept thinking Winter Song with this riff, and it drove me nuts. Kept looking for Time after Time as a title to no avail!
This was my intro to the genius of Bob Mould...
Me too. I remember hearing it first on the college radio station at Texas Tech. I still love this song as much as the first time I heard it...If not more.
Zen Arcade
Did you get heavily into Husker Du?
when I 1st heard this, I thought is was Husker Du & went looking for the album. Found Sugar & have seen Bob twice since
Por fin una buena canción!!
Great song!, Great album...Top fiver for me
This song was uploaded 14 years ago and only has 353k views. Tragic.
A great combination of power and feeling.

Gosh this reminds of College in the early 90’s
College music :)
