I am a man that lives with many regrets. This song reminds me of a time in my life where I wasn’t myself and pushed away a very important person in my life. I’ve lost her forever, and nothing I can ever do will bring her back. This song just captures everything about that situation perfectly, as if this song was written just for me.
My ex-husband brought Workbook to my house for our first official date while I was making lasagna in my tiny apartment kitchen in 1991 maybe. We saw Bob live in concert somewhere in the early 2000s before we moved out of the US. He was alone, on an acoustic guitar, screaming Sugar songs, Bob songs, and Husker Du songs. This song always connected with me because I thought, I gave you all. Eventually he tried to kill me and thought he did. Obviously, I couldn't change his mind. But he couldn't take away my love for this beautiful song or my life.
Wow. I just sat down and learned this song on guitar. It made me appreciate it so much more! The ending of the verses (the fast chord changes D, A, Bm, F#m, G --> A-riff) is simply a stroke of genius! It feels so good playing this song!
Tears fill up my eyes I'm washed away with sorrow And somewhere in my mind I know there's no tomorrow Oh, I see you're leaving soon I guess you've had your fill But if I can't change your mind Then no one will And all throughout the years I never strayed from you, my dear But you suspect I'm somewhere else You're feeling sorry for yourself Leaving with a broken heart I love you even still But if I can't change your mind Then no one will If I can't change your mind Even though my heart keeps breaking Don't you know that I'll be waiting here for you Then when you return When will you return I hope you see I'm dedicated Look how long that I have waited If you come back then you will find A different person if you change your mind How can I explain away Something that I haven't done? And if you can't trust me now You'll never trust in anyone With all the crazy doubts you've got I love you even still But if I can't change your mind Then no one will If I can't change your mind Someday you'll see I've been true I'll stay that way until But if I can't change your mind Then no one will If I can't change your mind If I can't change your mind If I can't change your mind
Man, I love Bob Mould. From Husker Du, to solo, to Sugar, and back to solo....One of the best musicians of....EVER. Thanks so much for posting--I used to have this video (taped from good old 120 Minutes) but lost it somewhere.
Sugar is really a great band. Although I like Bob’s solo career more but I should say that his career with Sugar was as good as it could possibly happen. Long Live Bob, I Hope you’ll always be happy.
bob mould...husker du...sugar... whatever the man does is gold and I did have the pleasure of meeting bob in manchester boardwalk with sugar and he was a real gentleman :)
got copperblue on cd now, this takes me back 2 when had copperblue on tape after passing driving test driving about listening 2 this up loud in v reg mk1 fiesta sport in 1992,still sounds fresh, brill
I heard this song on the radio and was so confused because I knew the voice but had never heard this song before and couldn't find it on any of my husker Du CDs. Pretty awesome song.
Hüsker Dü/Bob Mould influenced so many bands during the past quarter century, it's undeniable! This is one of the songs that proves it and one of the best ever written.
He did an acoustic version of this at a show I went to many years ago that was very moving. A really nice song. Brings back many great memories. Thanks for posting!
Definitely one of those songs that when it comes on in the car, or anywhere at all, you belt it out with everything inside of you, and discover that somewhere during the song you started crying. But it’s a good cry. Absolutely sublime songwriting.
Again, thank you for posting this! First time I ever saw the video to this awesome song! I love Sugar! Bob Mould is such an amazing musician and writer =). And yes, "Copper Blue" is one of the best albums there is as well! Keep rocking, Bob!!! =)
He is just such a craftsperson in the way he approaches shaping his sonic confections. They are all dovetail joins & knurled filials; knobs & clawfoot fingerpicking where other songwriters just leave rough.
"Copper Blue" is one of the most amazing albums of the 90s. It is quite literally the sound of certain struggles building up inside a person both musically and sexually.
I just saw Bob a month ago in L.A. w/o his band at a small hotel joint. He rocked. It was great hearing him perform his old material as well as the new stuff.
Ditto. I remember one day driving home from work years ago, I had an hour commute home. I put this song on repeat and blasted the stereo as loud as possible. It's just so fucking good.
Oh man, not just this song, but the WHOLE album is golden!
Stop scaring your cat for "likes" 🙄
Probably one of the most perfect pop songs ever written
I just wrote exactly the same thing about See a Little Light!
For real. I'm estranged from someone that I care about. This song reminds me of her
Don't disagree, but Novacaine and Pulling Teeth are close!
I wish SUGAR and Bob Mould had released more quality songs like this....most of his songs were far from being as great as this song is
rebjiii harsh but agreed it is a gem.
The Bob Mould signature sound: Alternative rock with punk ethos delivered in a power pop fashion!

Know that feeling brother

Copper Blue should be on Top Ten 90's albums
1992 NME album of the year
one of the most underrated song writers ever. Genius
One of Steve Merchants all time favourite songs!
The guitar in this is just sublime. What a hook and the over dubbing of Moulds voice....so good.

Tears fill up my eyes
I'm washed away with sorrow
And somewhere in my mind
I know there's no tomorrow
Oh, I see you're leaving soon
I guess you've had your fill
But if I can't change your mind
Then no one will
And all throughout the years
I never strayed from you, my dear
But you suspect I'm somewhere else
You're feeling sorry for yourself
Leaving with a broken heart
I love you even still
But if I can't change your mind
Then no one will
If I can't change your mind
Even though my heart keeps breaking
Don't you know that I'll be waiting here for you
Then when you return
When will you return
I hope you see I'm dedicated
Look how long that I have waited
If you come back then you will find
A different person if you change your mind
How can I explain away
Something that I haven't done?
And if you can't trust me now
You'll never trust in anyone
With all the crazy doubts you've got
I love you even still
But if I can't change your mind
Then no one will
If I can't change your mind
Someday you'll see I've been true
I'll stay that way until
But if I can't change your mind
Then no one will
If I can't change your mind
If I can't change your mind
If I can't change your mind
I just love the drumming on Sugar
this entire album kicks ass
timothy pane From this to the light hearted Hoover Dam to the steady rocker Helpless and then the inteeeeense The Slim, this is one great album.
yes. And check out Afghan Whigs (sp?)
The Slim is just... Wow...
I had forgotten about this disk 💞
Soft voice and beautiful song ❤❤❤
I remember hearing two Aussie backpackers strumming and singing this song in Edinburgh in '92....
Bob Mould is a LEGEND.
Bob Mould=Legendary songwriter & performer. PERIOD!!
One of the best pop song ever written. Period.
Man, I love Bob Mould. From Husker Du, to solo, to Sugar, and back to solo....One of the best musicians of....EVER. Thanks so much for posting--I used to have this video (taped from good old 120 Minutes) but lost it somewhere.
Sugar was the best band!
I want that shirt
Also, Sugar was one of the best short lived bands ever. They did a lot with two albums, and EP, and a B-Side album.
Will see your Sugar and match with Belly!
Yes, this whole album is great.. haven't listened to it recently but will this weekend. So great. I wish I could see him
They should be one of the most famous bands ever, it's a privilege to be one of the few that enjoyed them!
I could listen to this song over and over and over and over and over and over.......
And I have!
Sugar and R.E.M. are my favourite bands of the early '90s.
Bob is a musical genius!
Bob is a genius end of.
+Obvious Bicycle ;)
YES he is
Loved all the music coming out when this was out early alternative/pop rock. Great time in music.
Perfect pop rock song, the rest of this album is fantastic too
It's like Husker Du teamed up with the Go-Betweens. Magnificent!
This, along with "Too Far Down" and "See A Little Light," is one of the best songs he's ever done. Thanks for sharing the video!
Sugar is really a great band. Although I like Bob’s solo career more but I should say that his career with Sugar was as good as it could possibly happen. Long Live Bob, I Hope you’ll always be happy.
Love those harmonies
Pinnacle of '90s (power) pop.
Super underrated song. There’s really nothing like this.
Still a well written, catchy tune
@@The__Leo Horrible take.
bob mould...husker du...sugar... whatever the man does is gold and I did have the pleasure of meeting bob in manchester boardwalk with sugar and he was a real gentleman :)
This song tears me appert every fucking time !!!

I saw him touring this, one of the best gigs I've been to.
totally brilliant. one of the best tracks of the 90s and still stand the test of time. Bring back Bob Mould
In the perfect world, you tune the POP station on the radio and a song like this one is playing.
I heard this song on the radio and was so confused because I knew the voice but had never heard this song before and couldn't find it on any of my husker Du CDs. Pretty awesome song.
Heard this in a pub years ago and could never find out what it was. Finally!
I think I die and go to heaven every time I watch Bob flick that last photo, leaving the Sugar imprint hanging in the air.
Copper Blue is in my top 10 fave albums. I never tire of it. Great stuff
Soooo 90s! Brilliant
Hüsker Dü/Bob Mould influenced so many bands during the past quarter century, it's undeniable! This is one of the songs that proves it and one of the best ever written.
one of my favorite albums of all time ever. nothing holds a candle to it. genius. thank you for posting this.
wow. I love this album so much. I actually cant believe its 92
Bob is hands down one of the best songwriters of his generation. How about that -- punk icon as cultural standard bearer.
MTV - the Golden Years.
He did an acoustic version of this at a show I went to many years ago that was very moving. A really nice song. Brings back many great memories. Thanks for posting!
I joined a band in the 90s because I HAD to play this song. It remains one of my all-time favourite songs.
just discovered this on spotify and can't stop listening to it
Ok, i've gotta admit: this song makes cry. Dont know why exactly, but that's it.
A home town hero!
Definitely one of those songs that when it comes on in the car, or anywhere at all, you belt it out with everything inside of you, and discover that somewhere during the song you started crying. But it’s a good cry. Absolutely sublime songwriting.
Copper blue....masterpiece...
Again, thank you for posting this! First time I ever saw the video to this awesome song! I love Sugar! Bob Mould is such an amazing musician and writer =). And yes, "Copper Blue" is one of the best albums there is as well! Keep rocking, Bob!!! =)

Songwriting confections! Nice. Melodic and poppy but buzzy, wall of sound guitars. Bob. 💜
I am sure that Bob is very happy that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has been repealed. 2:37 is clearly commenting on his stance on that.
An eternally fresh song. Nice playing, vocals and well-written!
Exultant!
VERY UNDERRATED SONG
What an amazing band. All these years later their music still sounds "fresh."
Een van de weinige nummers die je elke dag kunt beluisteren, zonder dat het begint te vervelen. Zeer aanstekelijke melodie.
"Copper Blue" was best album Mould ever been part of
深夜のテレビドラマで流れていて、お気に入りでした。PV見るのは初めてです。今聞いても
最高にいいですね。。
I've struggled for years trying to get into husker du, but with sugar, I've officially fallen in love with Bob Mould.
Almost same here. The only difference is that i struggled to get through to HD after already being a massive fan of Sugar. And I made it )
"Copper Blue" is one of the most amazing albums of the 90s. It is quite literally the sound of certain struggles building up inside a person both musically and sexually.
listen to a song like 'Celebrated Summer' -- it's almost the same as this
So wild to me how I used to listen to this ages ago and only recently found out this guy was in Husker Du, a completely different type of sound haha
I just stumbled upon this. Where has this been all my life?
I just love this song..heard it in the early 2000.....
I just saw Bob a month ago in L.A. w/o his band at a small hotel joint. He rocked. It was great hearing him perform his old material as well as the new stuff.
My girlfriend got me a sweater reminiscent of the one Bob's wearing here back in the day. We're no longer together. This is incredible pop.
The beauty in ART is we all can see it in different ways
The work of a genius!
Fantastic . love Bobs vocals .
One of my all time favorite albums ! Went through many bfs & breakups to it
I first heard this on DMX back in 1992. Great song!!!
Pop fucking PERFECTION. I still get goosebumps EVERY TIME I hear this song. 'nuff said.
Ditto. I remember one day driving home from work years ago, I had an hour commute home. I put this song on repeat and blasted the stereo as loud as possible. It's just so fucking good.
Gotto love the 90s video clip look.
大好きです
I remember listening to Sugar whilst working on my '78 VW microbus. That was one awful bus and one fantastic band!
This song is one of the Bob Mould best masterpieces
Brilliant song. Not-so-subtle video. Awesome.
This song among many others shows why a dislike button is unnecessary. Great track.
What a cracking pop tune.
cant sit still to this music....classic power pop/rock...go Bob, go
Fantastic vocal performance by Kirk from Coronation Street
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
If he was wearing a dirty jockstrap and a propeller beanie, it'd still be one of the greatest rock songs ever written.
I think I saw Bob Stinson perform in that outfit once
Love the scale arpeggio at the end
20 years on and its still an awesome piece of music-should have been no.1 all over the planet
30 years now. JFC we're old.
😁@@matteframe
And it doesn't feel like 12 years since I posted that. JFC x2.
This is gorgeous.....
not a bad song on copper blue... good from first song to the last. brings back some old memories from high school. bob mould... what a legend!
Great memory!
Bob Mould, your music is awesome.
Copper Blue is one of my favourites CDs
Sugar!!!!!!! muito bom.
from Husker Du onwards Mr Mould you are a genius!
Sugar was a huge part of my college dorm soundtrack of the early 90s.
Just a perfect 3 minute pop song - love it x
Just perfect!
