Dream Cars - Buick LeSabre and XP 300

- After WWII, GM design head, Harley Earl commissioned a new car for his daily driver - the LeSabre. Like the Y Job he had built before the World War II, this car was way out there and featured things not found on any other vehicle: a built in jack, a top that came up when it sensed rain, windshield wipers that automatically wiped when it rained and a cyclops, hidden headlight. Of course, GM's head of engineering Charles Chayne needed his own wild, daily driver so Earl had the designers create the XP 300 which, of course, wasn't as good looking as Earl's. Two Dream Cars from 1950s are demonstrated and driven.

Thanks so much for sharing these awesome videos.
I had the luxury or seeing this car twice in atl this prior summer. What an amazing car!
Joshua Smith Which one, the XP-300 or the LeSabre?
The Japanese cartoon Speed Racer had hydraulic "jump jacks" under the car. Perhaps this is where the idea came from:)
nofrackingzone Wouldn't surprise me, TBH.
What a car! Great tech for that time period! Just goes to show how little innovation we have gotten in all this time
The song playing is Ramsey Lewis-“Brazilica”
amazing
Any mechanic knows that the more gadgets there are, the more likely you are to need shop time. I'm not a mechanic, but my father knew how to work on his cars. That's why he never bought anything like these cars.
Many lost technologies get that way because of "cost efficient"
corporate policies getting in the way of maintaining a good idea.
♥
Harley earl stored his Lesabre at my uncles Buick agency in 1954 I have pictures of the car parked next to my 1954 century I’m met Harley EarlJerry Mcdonogh
The 1951 GM LeSabre is NOT a Buick! Designed by, and for, GM's top designer and VP of Styling, Harley Earl, built at GM's Cadillac plant, utilizing components custom made for this one- off car, from both Buick and Cadillac plants. That's right, it is 1 of 1 built. Still owned by GM today.
These cars was very advanced for his age :)
still some exist
Hi guys.... as my brother said : it has been done in 1951 !!! and when you state that europe is supposed to be in a technologic advance... even i am french.... ...
The LeSabre is not a Buick. It is a corporate GM styling prototype.
all the standarts of a car we have now ... they have been installed in U.S. car for at least 50 to 60 years ! last, but not least : U.S. cars are equiped in standart with the europeen gas "flexfull'..; a standard that does not exist here... for getting it in our cars, as an option, it costs approx. 600$ !
I like the American classic car 👌
why don't they put extra hydraulic jacks on these cars of today could have girls change da tires easily instead of guys doing da work "
Why dont dey just put a penis detekter inside all cars so dey wont start if a broad tries to drive. Dat way da buxom dame can just stay at home poppin out more kids!
If dis shit continues, were gonna have a black or a lady for a pressidint, instid of da cheeto we posed to have.
EDIT: OMFG. All your saved videos are 60 year old songs.... youre either a really elaborate troll(youre not smart enough to be), or that comment was genuine.
