Follow me to Ground was one of those books that really surprised me this year. I'm a medical intern (doctor in less than a year) with a disability/chronic illness, so this checked a lot of my boxes. I ended up adoring it. It can be a fine line to balance as a doctor when you want to help people with a disability, without feeling the need to "fix" them or making them feel like that's what you want to do. Communication is so vital, and small mistakes or omissions can cause so much frustration. Having been on both sides, I think this book captured that well.

I absolutely adored Follow Me To Ground. I got it as an arc early in the year and have been so excited to hear others thoughts.
I just picked up Pew from my local indie yesterday based on your previous video. Looking forward to reading it. I loved Bluebird, Bluebird and I’ve got the next book in the series here. I’m trying to hold off for a bit because, as you said, it’s only just come out and it’ll be awhile before we get the next one. I think she’s an excellent writer. I’ve added Follow Me To Ground to my list. It sounds delicious!

I’ve read Salt on Your tongue thanks to your Patreon page. I’m not a big fan of water and the sea, but I really enjoyed reading the book. It’s something I wouldn’t have read had I not seen it on Patreon. A few words on air conditioning: my husband bought an air conditioner and it’s sooo good!

I concur with you on On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. I really wanted to like it as I adore his poetry, but I thought the prose was all over the place...some of the writing was lush, other parts felt very overdone. Look forward to reading more Vuong, though. On instagram he made out like he's writing another novel. I hope he comes out with another collection soon and that he takes his time with the next novel.
Nice to hear you had a good reading month. My reading is going well so far this month - onto Autumn by Ali Smith so far and liking it a lot - which I'm glad of, as I found The Accidental very dull eek.

I have a question unrelated to the video if you don’t mind. Do you think is it ok if a writer uses names of actual ancient locations for a fictional world, even though the actual real-world location has nothing to do with the fictional one? For example, The Great Pyramids name is used, but they are not real world pyramids, and the entire setting of the story is obvious fiction/fantasy. If yes? Can you give me examples of literary works using this technique? I’ve been doing so research on the topic and I couldn’t find any helpful information. I’ll be grateful if anyone could help here?

Perhaps something I should have mentioned but to echo Jean who has spoken about this before: it’s not always a good thing when you read so much; it can mean that your mental health is pretty low and reading is your coping mechanism. That was definitely the case last month, but at least I discovered some lovely books that will stay with me for a long time xx
@@jenvcampbell ok, I get the mental health aspect and that reading can be a distraction - good and bad. If it works as a coping mechanism that's ok as well (and I know you have others as you' ve spoken about that). But in the interest for your health and wellbeing I will definitely settle for much shorter wrap ups. (As a reflection that you're doing ok) Let's hope that this month will be good all round.

I have about 10 books that I ordered on line in July. They are all books I really want to read, but for some reason I just can't seem to read anything. It seems that my depression is getting worse and nothing is making me happy.
I feel you ♥️ I think it goes both ways. In March my mental health was bad and I couldn’t focus on reading at all. Last month, my mental health was also really bad but for some reason reading felt like a coping strategy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it really doesn’t. Sending love xx

Ugh, I read 2 books that month. I am not a fast reader. Jealous. If you haven’t already done a video on how to increase volume it would be appreciated.
I had to read some of these books for work. Got to remember that books are my job - writing them, reviewing them, writing articles etc. Also, something I perhaps should have mentioned in the video, reading a lot is not always a great sign. My mental health was not good in July; I didn’t sleep much and reading was a coping mechanism. I did get to discover some fabulous books, but I would rather have felt happier. So don’t worry about not reading lots. xx
I didn't understand the plot "twist" from Follow Me to Ground. Can you explain it? Did the guy have a romantic relationship with his sister?

I don’t read books in languages other than English, I’m afraid, so I can’t really help with that xx
I think the best thing is to start with a book which you are already familiar with. At first, I used a dictionary and looked up every word I didn’t know. But that’s very time consuming so I stopped doing that and just read. English was always my favourite language (and subject at school) so that helps, too, I think. I also watch movies and tv shows in English (if the original language is English). If you like podcasts I recommend “Luke’s English Podcast”. He is an English teacher and I think he did an episode about reading books in another language (English in this case).
