How to Teach Art Room Rules

- Hi! I am Katie Jarvis a K-6 elementary art teacher. In this video, I detail my process of creating my back to school rules video for my elementary/primary art students. I use a backwards design and start by reflecting on student behavior in the past school year. I use humor and cheesy acting to show students what breaking the rules and following rules in the art room.

I've been teaching Special Education (Middle School) for 4 years, but am thrilled to be moving to teaching art in Elementary School (3rd-5th grade) in the fall. Your videos have helped so much! I can't wait to see more!

Hey 😇 ! Wow I’m implementing so much of what I’m learning in your videos. My students absolutely loved ur video. It was hilarious to them bc it’s exactly how they act. They laughed so much. I was so glad that I found a way to remind them of the rules in a fun way that grabbed their attention. It’s hard for me to organize all of these procedures and rules w my add it doesn’t come natural but at my new school it’s mandatory. it’s so worth it and they aren’t really difficult to follow. I feel like once they learn everything it will get easier and when we bring out the paint I won’t lose my cool. 😂Thank you this style of rules making really work s for me and Your quite the actress. My students asked if there are more videos w you in it. Lol

The video I show students where I’m acting out what to do/not to do is on CZcams. The slides presentation has copyrighted images at the moment but I may be able to edit and upload it this summer. Thank you for the suggestion

I use an iPhone and a simple lapel mic?
