There are only 3 options when facing off against Ma Long, The Goat:

Ma (Chinese surname, meaning Horse). Long (Chinese name, meaning dragon). MJ's playing against a firing dragon running like a horse. He put up a good fight losing 2:4 but no shame.

This is the real final of RIO. ZJK was lucky to be in other side of the draw.
In Olympics, the world ranked no.1 and no.2 will be separated so that, if both players won their half, they would meet in the final. The Chinese PingPong team always participated in more games before the Olympics, to secure no.1 & 2 and to ensure that their players could meet in the final. From London 2012 to Tokyo 2021, they always did (Wang Hao vs Zhang Jike; Zhang Jike vs Ma Long; Ma Long vs Fan Zhendong). It is not about Zhang Jike being lucky to be in the other half, it was designed and planed to be.
All players tried their best in every game. It would be meaningless to claim "other side of the show" was easier. ZJK won all the way to meet Ma Long at the end. He deserved to be in the final. He would have done the same if you flip the two Chinese players. Ping Pong is about tactics but also about mental. In the final, Ma Long is on the rise, ZJK was burdened by injury and the upcoming men's team match. ZJK didn't recover from the first game's defeat and Ma Long won. But it was still a great game.
TBH, just like you, I was also a bit disappointed in how the Rio final turned out. ZJK and ML had more interesting games in 2012-14. In the Rio final, feels like ZJK didn't give it all out like he used to do. I can understand that he placed a higher priority on securing the team's match that would come after, his injury would not allow him to recover if he had an all-out game with ML, and he might still lose even if he tried. But, probably just like any audience, I want to see more tense games. The half finals, ZJK vs Samsonov + ML vs Mizutani were all great games.

I am not as sound player as these genuises but I'd suggest Japanese player to work on different services which could result into a cash point. Doing one kind of serve throughout the game doesn't result into anything. This Japanese player is playing nice shots & giving tough competition but if he'd improve in Ball placement at different spots on table instead of just returning to opponent casually, I think He'd get points easily. He is playing hard but Not tricky which is the only thing he lacks. This is My suggestion & may not be true for the player!
