Hi everyone! So, about spoilers: We've heard your concerns! We took great care to avoid showing plot critical moments or dialogue, and whatever story details may be discussed here should be minor compared to the rest of the story. Even the more recent trailers reveal things that we weren't even able to show. BUT if you are concerned about spoilers at any level, we recommend that you DON'T watch our review. Everyone has a different level for what's considered a spoiler, and it's challenging to walk a line that pleases everyone--although I wish that we could!
How much grinding did you have to do in the entire game
Is there an option to switch to japanese voice acting?
You took great care not to show clips but the guy narrating straight up said the plot of specific chapters and which important characters die…..
@@iamveggie Yes there is, in the Options menu.
you could do a great snake cartoon voice over
Every character being a unique class that doesn’t have duplicates is genius. It makes each one feel important, as they ALL possess the ability to do something that no other character can.
If a character dies in battle, is it permanent?
@@Jahalang82 no I don’t think this game does that
Literally the only thing wrong with this game is that it's called Triangle Strategy. I feel like that alone will turn people off from the game because the name doesn't exactly radiate creativity or originality.
It feels like a deep cut specifically for fans of tactics games which is neat to see but it does sound incredibly generic and uninteresting on the surface.
Mexican Standoff: Medieval Tactics
It's a truly terrible name for anyone that hasn't been following the game imo.
@@Terranigma23 Octopath is also a reference to the eight paths you can take.
Threepath Strategy... naah Triangle sounds better
Pleased to see the difficulty can be adjusted mid game. I don’t want it too easy, but also don’t want to be put off by being too hard at first while learning.
You can do that in a lot of games in general
Even without changing difficulty, you actually keep XP and Kudos from failed/abandoned runs. Meaning you keep your levels and unlocked abilities after every attempt.
It's a massive help considering whenever your fail a mission in Fire Emblem, they revert to the levels and XP from the characters had at the start
I Kind Of Gave Up On Octo Because The Grind Was Way Too Much For Me.😅 I Still Wanna Finish It Though.
Was playing hard then around Ch.6 dropped it to normal. Even then normal does make you consider your choices before you execute a move.
the art is so beautiful. I'm hyped for this game. The biggest criticism I've heard is the usual "its narrative heavy between gameplay", and that's absolutely my jam, 1000%. I mean, I very much love Utawarerumono and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, so that should say everything.
This was so obviously the art direction fire emblem should have gone with when it came to the switch ere. I wonder what compelled them to go with the art style of three houses's end product.
Also, that seems like a big negative criticism for me. As much as I love fire emblem, that love is 95% for the gameplay and 5% for the world building. Never really cared about the stories or most of the characters and especially not the support stuff. In a movie or show or book, i would almost only want the support stuff but i don't think the super extended dialogue works well in the video game medium.
@@crobeastness I really love Three Houses, and think everything is so well done. I like the locations, the uniforms and gear sets, and the characters. I like the narrative design, and that they didn't go Fates with it, and split it into pricier DLC expansions, which they probably could've, TBH.
I probably would've liked an "HD 2D" Fire Emblem, but Three Houses was already underway when that was made... and now it's Square Enix's, so much that it's trademarked.
So as a very happy alternative, I'd be happy if Triangle Strategy was successful enough that Square Enix continues making HD2D tactical RPGs.
HD-2D is a possible gold mind, but I guess they also don't want to burn folks out on it. I half suspect they don't want to remake FFT because it might hinder the sales of new IPs, and overall long term successes.
@@EdwardViaTomato i love three houses too. I just don't like the art style and i don't like the amount of time spent at the monetary between each chapter.
You have great tastes mate. I love both of those, and my favorite kind of games overall are mystery ones like Ai; Somnium Files, Root; Film, Gnosia, Zero Ecape Series, Danganronpa, Umineko and ect, which by nature are about their plot. It's really up to what you value in games really.

Was a little worried about the lack of early reviews, glad to finally see one. Thanks, ill be picking this up!
bruh I watched almost 4 now.
Im seeing them pop up now, just doesn’t seem like people got very early access to it.
I loved the demo, i was mindblown by the soundtrack, the battles felt so epic thanks to it.
I can’t believe they actually called it this
I’ve been absolutely loving this game so far. As an SRPG fan, this game has SO much to love!
Great review, but I would have appreciated a head's up before chapter specific examples
I like how every character has something of consequence to say in the votes. They make good points on both sides of debates, so each choice feels meaningful. A lot of games give the illusion of choice, where you get the same result no matter what you say, it's just a style over substance thing. The writing took a lot more effort here, and I appreciate it.
Finally the new Tactics Ogre game is out! Been waiting over a decade
Are you excited for the remake ?
Not sure if I missed it but how long was your playthrough?
Ahh..Jens' cliff edge express. I just love using it to deal with bosses which have crazy resistances in Hard difficulty. Dealing with Rufus in that crazy map, was made easier with Jens and Roland saving their TP just for him to go over the edge of the cliff. Bought me time while the others cleared their side of the map.
I am really loving the variety of characters with their own niches. Who knew that a character who only builds ladders and spring traps could actually be viable characters in a combat game. Very interesting to see a game where these units can shine! Thanks for the review!
My biggest complain about the game is thag there’s no small portraits on the dialog boxes like fft or persona it’s a minor detail but it makes the characters more personal
I really wish they had this, especially since the character art is so nice.
I've never really enjoyed Tactical RPGs like this, but this one might actually sell me on giving it another try. The lack of permadeath and the way XP is given out is soemthing I vastly appreciate.
Lack of permadeth is a good thing? And how is XP given out?
@@crobeastness Did you even watch the review? XP is given our when you charatcers perform almost any action except moving, and scales on level. This allows weaker units to catch up as the game wants you to constantly change our units. The lack of permadeath helps with this as this gives you the freedom to try new strategies, without the crippling fear of losing a unit. The challenge comes from the levels themselves, not the threat of permadeath.
@@crobeastness What part of losing a character for the rest of the game if they go down in battle is in any way fun?
@@TheKillerham5ter i like hard games. They make me think. Also, you restart the chapter from the beginning. Who actually continues their file with a fallen soldier? This may seem like cheating, but beating a single chapter could take hours. Restarting the game isn't simple. If I'm far enough in that specific chapter, I'm devistated. In the moment it's horrific. In retrospect, it's thrilling.
@@crobeastness what?
I tried demo and was very pleased with it. It reminds me of game of thrones - gonna buy it tomorrow
5:36 I will name my hawk sniper Canopus
The only option.
Triangle strategy is a phenomenal game from what I see so far.
TONS OF SPOILERS AHEAD, beware
I like that the fighters on field are all unique characters. I could never get into games that used generic units to bolster your team.
the tactical mechanism is not entirely new if you played previous tactical games from Square Enix before, like Tactics Ogre for instance.
WOWW!! I absolutely love strategy games and this one sounds amazing. I love the variety of classes and mission variety. Definitely going to buy this one!
Looks great, honestly! The visuals and the gameplay look so nice but those titles .... it looks like I'll be expecting Parallelepiped Warriors and Dodecahedron Fantasy in the future ...
Try using a de-esser for your audio if you can.
Thank you for saying it’s almost fully voice acted. That was a good selling point for me.
great review, I haven't had this much fun with an srpg since three houses
Great review. I'm so stoked. Tomorrows my birthday and I have The Batman to go watch and Triangle Strategy and Gran Turismo to play.
Happy birthday sounds like it’ll be great!
Happy birthday 🎈
Honestly, I wasn't sure if I wanted the game, but this video and others have sold me on it. I liked how the guy in this video really went over all the things I wanted to know.
Thanks for the spoilers for Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, bro. Appreciate it👍
Yeah.. this was pretty dumb lol
It seems I'm in for a tough ride mostly basing Serenoa's choices on my own convictions, Morality all the way! (at least for my first playthrough).
I want pick up I feel like this won't sell well so it has potential to be hard to find.
The main reason what makes people like me interested in this game is it's similar tactics to Fire Emblem.
Forgot this was coming out. I figured it'd be good, but come on, Triangle Strategy? They really couldn't think of a better name?
Just look at their previous games. Bravely Default. Octopath Traveler. At the very least, each name makes sense within the game's context. Like, the Brave system, or the 8 different stories, and now the 3 different strategies.
Can't wait for their next game, Basic Descriptor
It’s a name? What’s the big deal? I don’t understand why people a whining so much about this.
@@TheKillerham5ter Personally, I don't hate it, I'm just havin' fun.
Does it have any sort of character customization? If yes, how does such customization compare to Final Fantasy Tactics?
Man I don't know if no if it can be equalized easily but every single S sound bothered my ears in this one
Elden Ring, Gran Turismo and now this game. I don't know when I'll have the time to play all 3 but I'll try my best 😂
Then don't but all at the same time
The game auto saves after every scales of conviction sequence so it forces you to live with your choices
Straight up spoiled a bit of the plot in the beginning 😂i played it blind and was blindsided by it. I knew someone would break the truce but I thought it would be Hyzante because they have both nations by the balls. Curve ball for sure
Sweet!
Great review! You sold me.
The only thing I dislike so far is that somehow the voting at one point never changes despite all the variations I use to convince people. At chapter 13, whatever I use for arguments the outcome is always the same that Erador is going for the dam destruction and all the others stick to their opinions. I also used the guide votes but still no changes which makes me mad tbh. The game is going for a direction I dislike the most and I can't change the outcome. Don't know if it's a bug since also the guide answers don't change it...
5 minutes in and this feels like what fire emblem three houses should have been
I was rather excited for this one! I’ll have to wait a couple months as I’m busy with the big AAA releases but still!
Is the name of the game going to stay triangle strategy? I thought that was just temporary
it's out now. They just dropped "Project", which I think they did for Octopath too.
@@EdwardViaTomato Oh ok Thanks
I played both demos and loved them ! I can't wait to get it even though I'm definitely addicted to Elden Ring right now :P
Wonder how longevity is.
Why you put spoilers in your review tho? 😡
So is this game more linear than octopath? Like octopath was good but I prefer linear rpgs
Hi everyone. Here is a bunch of spoilers for ya!
Is it just me or does the cadence of the voice acting feel weird in this game? I tired the demo and the way every one talked was super distracting.
Yes, it seems more about the direction rather than the quality of the performers themselves.
@@TremblingQualifier yeah the quality was fine, but the delivery was jarring.
Let’s go!
YOOOOOOO this is supposed to be a review. I had to stop the video 4 mins in due to so many spoilers wtf!
fantasy tactics
Tbh the only thing I'll disagree with is the voice acting. It's.... not great. Not terrible, but delivery is not very good. Especially Serenoa, the protagonist. Either the actors received very poor directing or It's their first voice acting gig because holy cow do they not match the tone sometimes. Even the Japanese voices sound not so great.
Luckily, you can just turn off voice acting. Has made the experience so much better. Enjoying it so far.
if anyone is reading this I need help I’m in chapter 9 and I want to take the salt to Aestfrost but I can’t convince people to vote in my direction I have loaded to before the vote like 4 or so times now I’m trying to grind conviction on the mental mock battles is it a lost cause
Three houses huh?
Can we all agree to call this game triangle tactics?
There's a clear difference between tactics and strategy, mate. Look up the words in a dictionary if you're unsure about the words you are using. So, no, we won't agree on calling the game something else than what it's called. Get a grip.
In dictionary terms, sure
its Different
But this is similar to final fantasy tactics
And triangle tactics has a nice ring to it
@@hiraldosternflyer7112 Bro chill I just like the sound of it
Imagine crying this much over what the game’s name is, get a life.
@@TheKillerham5ter Im not crying your crying 😭
4:44 ... um what?
Thank you for spoiling this long-awaited game for me. Truly appreciated. I have now thumbed down this joke of a review and blocked the channel from my view.
Yeah I’m 3 minutes in and it’s super spoiler. I’m shutting this off.
Thank you for spoiling the game 🙄
this game has a really bad start the demo doesnt do this game justice to le them know its good for them. SE really messed up making the 1st 3 chapters the showcase for the game since it gets so much better as the game progresses.
I wasn't planning on getting it, perhaps unfairly, because the name sounds like the game is incomplete. It sounds like a working title. This review actually changed my mind though and I think I will pick it up.
As a person who isn't a huge fan of turned based games. I really enjoyed the demo. And will be picked this up when. I can.
Stop it with the spoilers in this review. What the hell is wrong with you.
This review is filled with spoilers. The very first plot point you called out wasn’t even in the latest demo so I had no idea that was coming. Please rewrite this review or take it down.
Had to stop watching bc this seems rather spoiler heavy
Thanks 👍🏾
So it’s like Fable 3 😂
Just gonna dump the plot that early into the video?? I'm out...
Square Enix is weird they should have just added FF characters to this game and called Final Fantasy Tactics 2 or something
I'd love a ShinRa Tactics: FFVII
Or even another Tactics upgrade from WoTL, with Red Mage, Blue Mage & Mystic Knight. White mage should be able to equip hammer/flail like FF1, and Black mage should be able to equip knives/daggers ala FF1. With the learn ability that's missing for these weapon types. Wear Robes ability learn also.
Too much dialogue and not enough gameplay. Still can't believe they went with this awful name too.
GOTY contender, right here.
Jesus man just spoiling the whole prologue of the game? That felt unnecessary
It was literally a demo for like the past month
I love that they made this game in a major similarity to the Final Fantasy Tactics style...I just wish they had just made an ACTUAL Final Fantasy Tactics lol
Bro why are u directly spoiling the plot? Cant u just get ur point across more vaguely without freakin saying exactly what chapter and what second something happens?
Honestly I stopped watching the review after like 3 minutes dude gives away what happened in every other chapter
The was so obviously the art direction fire emblem should have gone with when it came to the switch ere. I wonder what compelled them to go with the art style of three houses's end product.
Also, that seems like a big negative criticism for me. As much as I love fire emblem, that love is 95% for the gameplay and 5% for the world building. In a movie or show or book, i would almost only want the support stuff but i don't think the super extended dialogue works well in the video game medium.
Absolutely in love w the artstyle .. I just wish it wasn't a turn-based tactical rpg lol
Give Live-A-Live or DQ3 a try when they come out then! There’s more HD-2D titles down the pipeline…
@@hovasaxa ya but those are also turn-based :/
Came back to thumbs down this after watching another review that managed to get its point across completely spoiler free
First
I want Remakes of CHRONO Trigger and Final Fantasy VI In this 2D-HD style! No I demand it.
I’m surprised there was no mention of how much unnecessary dialogue there is in this game, and how many times you just have to let the characters squawk - with no gameplay interaction - for absurdly lengthy periods. It’s especially prevalent at the beginning of the game, and it was a poor game design decision.
I’ll admit, as well, that I find the writing and dialogue mediocre. Not bad, but certainly not snappy and engaging.
NOT SPOILER FREE
Still one of the dumbest video game names of all time.
I’ve read and heard this game is 2/3 dialogue and 1/3 combat. That seems crazy…! (Not in a good way)
I'm looking forward to this game, but boy is that a terrible name.
Bummer. Looks like a FFT clone. I wish more games in this genre would take influence from Fire Emblem.
For some folks (like me) I've been chomping at the bit for a spiritual successor of FFT, it's been so long since the ds entries.
I'd rather have a FFT clone than a FE clone. FE is fairly bland as far a strategy RPGs go.
@@bretginn1419 I haven’t played this game but there’s little if any strategy involved in FFT. It’s a Grind-heavy rpg that lets you move your characters around.
@@mikek191 I have played FFT. I still prefer it immensely and consider it one of the best tactics games. And Triangle Strategy will be like it, considering it takes from it's predecessor Tactics Ogre, another great game.
@@mikek191 That’s more of an issue of balancing on Tactics’ part, not the underlying mechanics of the game. The game struggled to keep the challenge consistent due to how overpowered most of the classes were once you got them. In chapter 1, enemies had access to Monks and Wizards before you did. By chapter 2 onward, you’re steamrolling with equal or better classes and skill setups.
If the enemies caught up to your power level properly and smoothed out the calculator class and Orlandeu, it would be excellent. As is, it’s still immensely fun to build characters and break the game, but the challenge comes from chapter 1, challenge runs, and mods that have better enemy spreads.
Edit: Also, Tactics isn’t a grind heavy game inherently. Like I said, the game gets heavily skewed in your favor pretty early on, so you can get away with just the random encounters. It’s only grindy when you’re going out of your way to min max units and try every class.
it looks cool in a lot of ways, but i hate this bad-photoshop-filter look that makes the coloration just awful. like unfathomably bad. How could any artist let this pass?
Not a big fan of this graphic style. I still prefer the original FFX . We really need a sequel to that game
