For as long as I can remember, "bit rot" has always been a term used to refer to data degradation. In other words, the way that data becomes corrupt over time as bits literally disappear from the storage medium. But I guess Vint has decided to redefine it to refer to the loss of data due to software degradation over time which will lead to a data dark age. And he's right. I just wish he would've come up with a new term for his theory rather than redefine the term that already existed.

ya same that's why I am using ZFS because it is supposed to overcome this because I had drives from the year 1996 and that data eventually degraded over time

There is a company called livingstory who has developed a way to store data permanently.

Remember that whilst ignorance gives you peace of mind, it comes at high costs.
Might want to get peace of mind via educating yourself on the matter. :)

    Lol what?
Just because you don't have any data that you want to keep around for the rest of your life doesn't mean others are a cult for that.
    Get a grip.
