    Guitar for the Practicing Musician was one of those American magazines back in the 80's they covered all the monster players coming out of the US scene, that the crusty old British magazines ignored, great times, luckily I still have mine

      @CliffordMartinOnline  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi Chester, Yeah, that was another great magazine! The American magazines always had the latest guitars, the newest players and really cool full page ads. They also used to have the latest techniques and the best lessons with star players of the day. I do remember one edition of a UK guitar magazine though with Phil Holborne doing a load of Yngwie lines which was great but on the whole the UK magazines were quite traditional and a bit dull. It's good you kept yours I wish that I had kept all of mine.👍👍👍

    As a 13 year old in 86, i bought my 1st guitar - a Kramer Pacer with Floyd Tremolo. All my savings from my paper round. It was great but maybe a year later my local guitar shop recd in a Black Peavey Vandenberg as well as a pink version. I YEARNED for that instrument. Super thin neck and those violin cut-outs. Was out of my price range however and my parents insisted i only need the one guitar. Good memories

      Hi, Yeah, the Kramer Pacer was one of the first with the Floyd rose I think? In 86 that was one cool instrument! The pink peavy Vandenberg was a real stand out guitar at the time like the Jem777, it was all so new and really exciting and I wanted one but the shop wouldn't do a trade in. 👍👍

    Well I was today years old when I found out about FR’s on a bass. That sounds hilarious.

    • @CliffordMartinOnline
      @CliffordMartinOnline  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah, it was... Probably the most inappropriate thing to have on a bass, not only because the insane amounts of booming.. but it also threw the whole rhythm section out lol!!👍👍👍👍

    I one sold on of those guitars, unfortunately the Floyd was incorrectly placed from the factory and needed to be moved. I found the pickups too bright but that could be fixed with a capacitor.

    • @CliffordMartinOnline
      @CliffordMartinOnline  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Christian, yeah, the pickups can be a bit bright for rock but for a clean sound with the treble turned down I really like them. I think that they quickly produced these guitars because the glue wasn't smooth in the snowflake inlays in mine. I think that perhaps Fernandes were desperate to capitalise on the ever expanding superstrat market back them. Having said that the one I have is really comfortable to play and works really well for jazz, although it's a bit inappropriate for jazz lol! 👍👍👍

      Hi Gabriel, Yeah, I was really into the electric guitar in the late 80's. It seemed like there was a new player every week revolutionising the guitar and a lot of it really seemed so original at the time. The guitar magazines back then were really awesome too, especially Guitar Player.👍👍👍

      @@JazzGuitarScrapbook Yeah, I used to love getting Guitar Player magazine, but being in England I could only get it from the local guitar shop and they either had 2 or 3 for sale or none at all so it was a hit or miss affair. But the actual magazine was excellent and even the ads were incredible like the Ibanez and Ovation guitar ones.👍

    I loved my Peavey Vandenberg. Best neck. Sounded amazing. I replaced the pickups. The tremolo bar was a Kahler killer. I got rid of it because of this. It was ok, just stiff

    • @CliffordMartinOnline
      @CliffordMartinOnline  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi Bruce, Yeah the Peavy Vandenberg was a beautiful guitar. I think it was a better production model than the Fernandes and really stood out at the time. The first one I saw was the pink one and later on I had a go on the one with the the jigsaw paint work which was a really nice instrument. I think Adrien Vandenberg has a really good eye for guitar design, the reversed headstocks etc aren't everyones cup of tea by I love them. 👍👍👍

      @@CliffordMartinOnline yeah you could really get a lot for your money back in the 80s and 90s. The other Peavey Tracer was a cheap great sounding guitar. Peavey was killing it back then. The VTM, and I had a Peavey Ultra plus. Very very cool rock or metal amp thru a good cab.

      @@bruceniblett959 Hi Bruce, Yeah, getting a guitar back then with all the custom extras like, locking tremolo, 24 jumbo frets, special pick ups and even a bevelled edge on the neck joint at the back of the guitar was so new and revolutionary. It felt like you were getting something really special. I remember the peavy Tracer that was a real 80's instrument, and a good guitar, great days!👍👍👍

    • @CliffordMartinOnline
      @CliffordMartinOnline  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi James, thanks! I don't know why but I sometimes pronounce things weirdly when making videos. There was one the other day where I did the same thing. It's probably because there's so much information and thoughts to get out at the same time that I pronounce things oddly and it's not until the editing starts that it becomes apparent and then it's too late. lol! But, I would normally pronounce it I banez .👍👍👍
