I was in a men's shoe boutique in Covent gardens few years ago. A black cab pulled up outside and Jimmy Floyd Hassibank got out and rushed into the boutique. He told the shop assistance he was in a rush as he had to catch a flight but need a pair of shoes he wanted. Although, he was in a rush he had no problem having a quick photo with me.. many thanks Jimmy.

His great chemistry with Jimmy even kept the great Gianfranco Zola on the bench. One of the best to play the game and with all due respect, a player more talented than the two of them. Eidur even said in an recent interview that he loved playing with Zola and admired him to the point of trying convincing their manager to start all three of them when Eidur and Jimmy were on fire and Zola had to stay on the bench. Eidur really never was a true old school nr. 9 like Jimmy, he was adapt at playing in more than one position both because of his football i.q. and versatility. I remember some commentator recently (who was an ex chelsea player ) likening Kai Havertz to him.

The best striker pairs are always the ones where each player fulfills the other's weakness with his qualities. Where opposites not only attract but blend together into some magical yin yang. Jimmy explosive force and finishing in the box where his strength while Eiður's football i.q. was his biggest strength, his reading of the game and finding open spaces to create chances for Jimmy. Other examples are Dwight Yorke & Andy Cole and Peter Crouch & Jermaine Defoe.

Hasselbaink's goal-scoring record against Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea during his time at Leeds and Chelsea (and Middlesbrough) was excellent, with some highlight-reel screamers against them all as well, so he definitely wasn't a 'flat-track bully'). During his season in La Liga with an Atletico Madrid team that was relegated in 1999/2000, he still had an excellent record and scored against all of the heavyweights, i.e. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Deportivo.
It's a big shame that the only major trophy he won during his playing career was the Portuguese Cup in 1997 with Boavista, when he came on as a late substitute in the final.

He grew up overseas in Belgium mostly where his dad played for Anderlecht. He also spent 2-3 years at PSV as a teen and made his debut along with Ronaldo who was 1-2 years older. That's why he had such a connection to Jimmy, he could speak to him in dutch. Because of how few Icelandic people there is a high demand put on language study in the school system. At around 11-12 you start learning Danish and English and few years later German. Most kids are already fluent in English by then because the T.V. and the movie theaters never dub their American/English material thank God because it's dreadful lol.
