    Yes , 🇿🇦 South Africa is a multi - national , multi - cultural land ! We have 11 official languages🇿🇦 . Some of us are fortunate to speak all 11 languages fluently !
    The reason for the change in the anthem was to accommodate all the different ethnicities in our country !
    That is why our national anthem🇿🇦 includes 5 different languages ! These are the 5 most widely spoken and used ! English is the media of education in South Africa ! That is why most South Africans are very fluent in the lingua franca !

      Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika was composed in 1897 by Enoch Sontonga, a Methodist mission school teacher. The words of the first stanza were originally written in Xhosa as a hymn. Seven additional stanzas in Xhoza were later added by the poet, Samuel Mqhayi. A Sesotho version was published by Moses Mphahlele in 1942.

    Nkosi Sikelela (the first part) was used by the ANC (the then struggle movement during apartheid and currently on power). After transition/ modulation of the song, there is Stem van Suid Afrika, which was used during apartheid.
    This move was done during Nelson Mandela tenure, to unite the South Africans and destroy the division, to promote reconciliation and to forge rainbow nation. The song is in 5 different languages, while South Africa has 12 Official Languages.

    The South African National anthem includes the old national anthem at the end to symbolise unity, hence the dramatic key change.

  • @nellasquare2092
    @nellasquare2092 Před 3 lety +2

    So, Nkosi Sikelela was not the original SA national anthem. It was Uit die Blou the national anthem for SA. However after the New Democratic govt was elected Nkosi Sikelela was added since it was the song that was sung by the black people and ANC in particular mostly to pray for Africa as a whole due the struggles faced by Africa. When it was added it was adapted to include other Nguni and Sesotho languages as it was originally written in IsiXhosa. It was then combined with Uit die Blou the previous SA national anthem hence the transposition to a higher key and the English part was also added thereafter and initially ended as “let us live and fight for freedom “ which was changed as obviously with a history like SA they could not sing as if inciting violence so changed to “strive for freedom”.

    The flag and the anthem symbolize the combination of whites and blacks. The first part of the anthem is the song of Africa, and the second is the anthem of the white inhabitants of South Africa sung in their language and english. The colors green, black and yellow on the flag are the colors of the African national congress, and white, red and blue are the colors of most European countries, for example, the Netherlands from which most of the ancestors of the white South Africans came
