  • If you are new to flying, talking on the radio as a student pilot probably sounds intimidating. Come along with Cheyenne and I as she makes her first pilot radio calls in the local traffic pattern of a non-towered airport.
    Here is my list of recommended things to purchase if you are just getting started flying. Regardless of where you learn to fly, it is good to have these on hand. The FAA manuals can be downloaded for free but I still prefer to have a printed copy. You can purchase from Amazon here:
    AIRPLANE FLYING HANDBOOK amzn.to/3WmsIfi
    PILOTS HANDBOOK OF AERONAUTICAL KNOWLEDGE amzn.to/37XxsE2
    FAR/AIM amzn.to/3vkXsln
    PILOT LOGBOOK I recommend if just getting started: amzn.to/3zOxfxi
    and also download pdf versions for free from the FAA here:
    www.faa.gov/re...
    www.faa.gov/re...
    Here’s a helpful Advisory Circular on communicating at a non-towered airport.

      Newbies like us tend to get task saturated and hard to remember the right phrases and it is much easier to just copy experienced pilot’s words for different occasions: like pattern work and airport approach. Please also add some a little bit more complicated dialogues:like request different options, holding pattern until base called. By the way, the closed caption in the video is great because voice quality is not solid over radio. Closed caption clears all the ambiguity!

    Good video and good job Cheyenne. Talking on the radio can be initially intimidating, recommend always talking with confidence. Also, when in controlled airspace, ATC folks are usually pretty helpful to inexperienced pilots. Fly safe…

    She nailed it. I remember my training, not as smooth.,,,good best practice is to “role model” this one the GROUND. Not her, she nailed it, but I would like to talk this BEFORE we go up.

    Great video! How did you get those amazing camera angles off the sides of the wings? Doesn't look like the camera is attached at all to the plane! Awesome!

    • @FreedomFlight1
      @FreedomFlight1  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching. Just let your flight instructor know that you are anxious (but yet excited). Ask to make your first flight a short one and very basic. I think when you get up in the air you're going to be surprised how calm and relaxing it is and soon all those fears will fade away. Flying in a small plane is an ultimate feeling of freedom. Let me know how it goes!
