- A group of Goblins from Moria have decided there is more for them to gain outside their underground caves and so have come to cause chaos and fear throughout Rohan.
They have reached a small Rohan village, where a group of warriors must hold off the incoming force until the Riders of Rohan, led by Eomer, can reach them.

Another idea… Shelob seeks revenge on Sam and marches north picking up the Mirkwood spiders, to attack the shire. Dunedain come to the aid of the hobbits
I’d love to see a helms deep siege set in the 4th age… meaning Lord Gimli and the glittering cave are a 2nd layer of defense. Enemies could be wild men, goblins, Isengard. Essentially the remnant of the factions crushed in the lotr supplemented by goblins

I know I'm a bit late and its probably already been said but you cant shoot at all if you move over half of your total movement. You get the minus to hit if you move even a mm but if a goblin moves more than 2.5 inches then they cant shoot that turn.
I second that being late. But for ppl learning from the awesome battreps i like to mention that the goblins dying by a charge at czcams.com/video/oSYkOLsXuNs/video.html are restricted to 2 , since the backline can't die. They are supporting and not strikable against.
A few mistakes:
-You can’t move full and still shoot. +1 is only if you move half or less.
-If you play at night bows have limited range and get a -1 to their to hit roll, but +1 on the to wound roll.
-Standard Rohan list can’t spear support.
-Spear supports do not need to take a courage test.
-If a courage test is failed, you cannot move.
-Rohan foot soldiers should have used a choke point or barrier to defend.
-You can’t do hits on multiple targets by throwing all dice at once. You need to roll the separately for each target.
-Éomer can use will points to charge the troll if his courage test fails.
-Eomer should have used a heroic strike.
-No courage tests after breaking.

This is my first time watching this channel, I have to say the editing is unparalleled for any battle report I have seen.
That was a interesting watch, for ideas a what if Saruman got the ring battle with Isengard vs Mordor would be fun as I’ve always enjoyed evil vs evil conflicts.
I'm confused. I thought you could only shoot if you moved half your movement speed or less? The goblins are moving more than half and still shooting. In the rulebook it says you can't move more than half your movement speed to shoot and if you move it's at -1.
The amount of 1s you rolled..seriously had me laughing out loud 🤣

Just a tip, if you move your full movement, you aren’t allowed to shoot at all. If you move half your movement, that’s when you add +1 to your shoot value. Loved the video though!
*edit* Also, your spearman doesn’t need to take courage tests to support, only if they’re charging into base to base contact.

Great battle report! I would like to see a large Isengard force against Rohan cav. Isengard sent a lot of pikemen to Helm's Deep but they did not get the chance for an open battle on the fields. Keep it up guys.

Had a great game the other week which was like a what if the Rhun force that fled erebor attacked Gondor (basically Aragorn with elites, reinforced by Eomer, now king, and royal guard Vs a horde of Rhun)

Hey, first off a big compliment; your videos and batreps are really well done and very entertaining. I think that the quality of a good batrep is in showing what’s important, not in showing everything and you are very good at condensing it to the interesting and fun parts. Cuddo’s on that.
If I might give you one recommendations to improve, it would be to get a firmer grasp on the rules. You guys make a lot of small mistakes, which in a normal game of course would be much of an issue, but in these cases you kinda run the risk of people getting confused of copying you guys.
Still, don’t get me wrong, way more good stuff than bad stuff.
Yeah we have played this game since initial release and often get mixed up with older editions of the rules. I think we are getting better with each Battle Report
Nice report and useful graphics but there were several instances where the Goblin archers moved full but fired anyway. Might want to add a disclaimer in case folks are using this excellent vid to learn how to play the game.
Loved Tolkien for years, but this is my first time watching any table top game let alone a Lotr one. as soon as the goblins hosed those two dudes in the tower I was hooked haha. This is great. P.S. I dont know if I can buy all this stuff but I'm a decent artist so I might have to make some paper figures and print off some rule books. I can see my cuz and pals playing this for sure.

Should have used Heroic move with Eomer at the end to keep the charge bonus against the troll. You would have likely won it if you had. Great game nonetheless!
When that Rohan cav was lining up, I was hoping for a juicy juicy hurl from the troll. That would’ve been incredible but I think he wasn’t able to swing his base out to the flank

I think someone should get to reroll ones to make it all even xD Although, dice do tell a story and it WAS very even at the end! I really like added lore and I am so looking forward to Battle Company like I have said few times already :D
If I remember this right, LOTRO had some quests where dunedain were investigating uruks, or was it dunlendings. Saruman's doings anyway.
To my mind it would make sense some people would investigate what is going on on Rohan as Saruman caused troubles in there for years, again, if I remember right. It would make LOT more sense tho if uruks used in your scenario would be those scout ones rather than heavy armored ones that were used specifically in Helm's Deep. Heavy armored would not be that bad either :)
What I want to see are elves. An elven patrol facing trolls in Trollshaws? Elven company traveling between Rivendell and Lorien, facing some wargs and orcs/goblins. Oh my, excited already just by thinking about it x)

Excellent editing! Keep in mind models don't get to shoot if they moved full. They can only shoot with a -1 penalty to hit if they've moved half or less.

One way you can do the reinforcements I've seen is rolling for it. You use a d20(or which ever dice you want) and the first round you need to roll a 20 then the next turn you need a 19 and down from there. It becomes more likely each round until you finally get them.

@the end~~I'd leave markers, not the mini's, for the fallen that are medium sized or less, although I can't recall any retreats, to give the trip over dead tactic. I don't mean retreats as in "called/sounded" retreats, I mean an attack so fierce that it drives the foe backward, over a fallen one, causing the stumble to prone function.
I was horrified to see a village of Rohan without stabled horses to run to to fight bareback.
Because the charge with even a short spear is dreadful. Goblins, being underground Orcs, probably don't use bows. But I bet they'd have spears at the least and pikes/halberds for the leaders. Being underground, I'd also bet that Goblins have better armor than Orcs. Scale/Brigandine for Goblins vs. extruded wire mail for Orcs, orcs being very good at clipping thick wire and twisting it into spirals, but horrible farmers.
Speaking of, with the credit score bullturd rolling out, Australia should have public lists of their "polite" forces, and no one should let them buy groceries or food.
Forgive me, I have friends under extreme duress there, and the copper peaces are much too brutal against the flu.
Never thought I could sit and watch someone play LOTR warhammer for an hour and enjoy it as much as I did!

What were the pint values on this fight? If we wanted to recreate it ourselves?
As is, I kinda think the 70% and/or the six turns is a little bogus with Rohan non-horseback units being as weak as they are. I'd like to see this scenario replayed a couple different ways.
First, and I think simplest, is to have Gandolf The White to show up, looking for Eomer, one or two turns after the Rohirrim.
Another, would be to swap out the starting units in the village to be Rangers holding out for Rohirrim reinforcements or simply more Rangers. You could also possibly swap Goblins for Orcs, maaaybe Uruk-Hai, if it seems the the Ranger set up has the side of good overpowered.
You could even do it taking place more in the Gondorian neck of the woods and have Orcs or Uruk-Hai verses either Rangers holding out or Gondorian back up or Gondorians holding out for Ranger back up.
Something tactically I would have done differently as Rohan, and I'm not as knowledgeable of the overall game mechanics so this may not actually be sounds, but I would have moved/hidden my warriors back in the southeast corner. Positioned my smaller tower archers to attack bottle neck and maybe not even move them up in to that position in the smaller tower until the enemy was getting close. For the most part the Goblins would've had to have bottlenecked into a small kill-box and also possibly blocked line of site for any of James's four archers to hit foot soldiers because of his own units being in the way. Unless James put his weak archers up front. Not to mention he possibly would've had to use at least one, maybe two, more turns to get to me and thereby giving Eomer more time to get here. Also, when Eomer does finally show up he'll either come in behind generally all of the Goblin force and possibly cut off James's archers completely, depending on how far back he may have kept them, and since there's only four it wouldn't take much for only a couple Rohirrim to take them out and then swing back around into the rest of the enemies.
Something else with the overall mechanics/stats...I feel an elevated archer should be able to shoot a little further and if an enemy is within a certain distance to the elevated spot, especially right below an archer then it should be plus one to attack because the archer has gravity working for them. Same thing when one enemy is fighting another enemy on a staircase. The person with the high ground is at an advantage whilst the other is at a disadvantage. I almost feel like when it comes to stairs there should be a roll for advantage/disadvantage or simply high ground is plus one to attack/defense and low ground is minus one to its attack/defense or at least affect the attack stat.
Cool match up. I think Rohan has home advantage, but that early losses could be painful

Rohan spears are throwing spears, you can’t use supporting attacks as they follow the rules for a throwing weapon, you can only use spears as support with Rohan in the defenders of helms deep Legendary legion.
Also Eomer failed his courage test how did he end up in base contact with Troll, if you fail a test when charging a model with terror you do not move at all.
Yeah we didn't realise that spear rule until after the battle.

When you fail a terror test you don't move at all, you have to roll before moving at all
You should have done heroic strike with your leader the last turn, it would have put his fight at least the same as the trolls if not higher thereby giving you the win on a 6.

@@TheTabletopAlliance Be careful though if you want to go into more than the basics; there were a couple mistakes that probably shouldn't be in a tutorial game.
-Rohan warriors using their throwing spear like a regular spear to support and taking courage tests when not actually attacking the troll
-rolling all attacks
1. together: a rider with 1 attack +1 from charging doesn't simply get 4 attacks when rolling to wound. Instead every attack gets doubled, but both dice for one attack have to target the same model. So when you roll two 1s and two 6s without distinction the two 6s might've been from the same attack and would've only killed one warrior.
2. before allocating the strikes to enemy models which, depending on their defence value, might require different results to wound.
-knocking prone and wounding models that were spear supporting and by that no eligible targets
-(as far as I can tell) not splitting the fight between the Troll and the Goblin against the Captain and the Warrior into Goblin v Warrior and Troll v Captain. But since you didn't split the fight (that was my impression because after the to-wound rolls of the Captain there were always another two to-wound rolls) the Goblins should've struck aswell because with a 6 they would've won the fight with their shared Fight value of 6. In multiple combats each model on both sides strikes with the highest Fight value present on their side.
-I'm assuming that you deliberately decided against courage checks for broken armies because this was narrative play

Just use the archers in the tower more effectively, maybe spread out the foot soldiers so it takes time to get to them and wipe them out in which time the rohirrum arrive

Is it just me, or are a few of the normal rules missing from this game, or maybe they forgot? Heroic Moves, Heroic Strikes, supports are not supposed to die if they are not directly in the combat etc.?
I believe we did use some Heroic actions. Just probably not enough of them :D
@the tabletop alliance would benefit from reading the spears section in the rulebook, several mistakes relate to that: shouldn't take a terror test for spear supporting, shouldn't be allowed to spear support a model with a larger base, can't make strikes against spear supporting models. Also spear supports don't go prone from being defeated. All these rules are because spear supports aren't actually in the combat.

If Rohan can only win by eliminating all the Moria figures, why didn't the goblins just run for cover and occupy the barns/outbuildings and sit to wait for Rohan to advance on them?
Because it was in their best interest to wipe out the rohan forces before reinforcements arrived?
@@TheTabletopAlliance Would the reinforcements fail to arrive if they killed all the villagers by turn 6? Rohan's 2 assets seemed to be Eomer and the archers in the tower. If the orcs were under cover/out of range of the archers then Rohan would need to march up to them. I'm not that familiar with the system but I assume horses can't charge defenders inside structures?

The rules are fantastic! Very similar to classic warhammer/40k but much simpler I would say
Cave trolls can't lead warbands they have to be in a warband also the archers you weren't even doing the in the way rolls for the other models
You don't need to if models are in base to base contact with friendlies. Or if the target is in an unobstructed, elevated position. :)
