It was John's concert with guests. That was the kiss of friendship with Olivia as they are longtime friends. John has been married to the love of his life, Jill, since their teens. For another song in this concert, with a different guest, please check out John singing, and having good, silly fun with another Australian , ANTHONY WARLOW, who is Mr. Showman. They sing the famous, "Granada," together. Anthony's voice is on another knockout level. Bye-the-way you are allowed to have days, holidays off etc. We followers are not that demanding !We don't want you to burn out.

just as a correction, this wasn't John's concert with guests. The Main Event was arranged as an Aussie version of the Liza, Sammy and Frank trio. They shared billing and wasn't a Farnham concert with guests, each had equal stage time and solo spots.

Let's also not deny the chemistry and beauty between the two of you!
We new fans of your channel note it with some regularity for a reason. The warmth of you both toward each other, even the simple expressions of graciousness when you inadvertently interrupt one another, is very heart warming. It's such a pleasure to watch you engage as you discover new music together.
    Much love from Australia.

Olivia has battled cancer several times, and still is having that challenge in her life. I think was just after she had been given the all clear the first time and their friendship shows so well - I believe John was channeling his relief that his good friend came through that battle. The song is about someone who loves a person already in a relationship, and in John's solo it really comes across that he would never make his feelings known and complicate her happy relationship. Such a sad reflective song.

This was such a beautiful performance from these two great singers. They are great friends and have recorded and performed together. The song itself was a hit for John I think back in the 70s. This particular performance was part of The Main Event concert featuring John, Olivia and Anthony Warlow. You guys would love it. A real mix of solo, duet and trio singing with comedy. Olivia is a wonderful human being - doing a lot of work for her cancer charity - meaningful work that has resulted in actual facilities and equipment being provided in the state of Victoria, Australia. She is currently going through her 3rd bout of cancer and we can only pray she will pull through. And ... I heard you say "crikey". I think we might have to adopt you both.

The reason why do don’t know the song is because it was written by an Australian songwriter who was a member of the Australian group, Little River Band and was originally released by John Farnham as a soloist. If they were all Americans all the world would know it. It is a shame that Australian music which is world class is only being discovered now by other people.

I think at some point you should look into other duets between them like the Sydney Olympic opening ceremony 2000 when they sang together DARE TO DREAM. That's on CZcams too. This is a beautiful song and they do have a great chemistry together. Both had similar history - both came from England. Liv born in 1948, him 1949 and both ended up in Melbourne, Victoria being brought up. Liv and her friend started their career on Melbourne TV and so did John. I think from memory Liv in about 1962 and I believe she won a contest with her friend Pat who ended up marrying her songwriter (John Farrar). They won the contest and went to England where she met Cliff Richard and appeared on his show. Pat returned to Australia but Liv didn't and ended up in America doing songs for country like LET ME BE THERE IN THE MORNING. She was well known for her records and beautiful singing voice. By the time she was on Grease in 1978 she had a following of fans from the country music industry in Nashville. She did do other movies like Xanadu where she met her husband Matt Lattanzi and had her daughter Chloe. The marriage didn't last but over the years she kept returning to Australia and had a wonderful health spa facility in Ballina, New South Wales. John's first claim to fame was SADIE THE CLEANING LADY which he gets ribbed about singing all the time. He did it in 1967 and it is on youtube too. Again, filmed in Melbourne - probably Bandstand, which was a popular show back then. Thinking that was the same show Liv was on with Pat.

John is still crazy and funny. John and Livvy have known each other since they started. Lisa is one of John’s backup singers.
My husband went to school with Livvy and our youngest daughter won a singing contest with this song in the finals. I didn’t know it was one of John’s songs until she told us before she started. The judges didn’t either. One wrote on her papers that she didn’t like John until she heard this song. Now she was going home to listen to more of his music. John is not called the Voice for no reason, his range is off the charts and he can sing Opera. He did in this concert you just watched with Anthony Warlow. It is the Main Event concert and they sing Granada. John is so funny, Anthony and Livvy are great. All three are kind and wonderful people.

I'm going to suggest three DIFFERENT musical options, all outstanding. Tommy Emmanuel, his song, Initiation. He is possibly, no, PROBABLY, the best guitarist in the world, but in this case he's using his guitar to imitate the eerie sounds of a million square km of empty Australian desert known only to the Aboriginals. Classical Gas is another stunning example of his work. The second is Tash Sultana, at this stage mostly known to people who REALLY know music. Tash might become a top 20 guitar player, she's only 26, plays a gazillion instruments. Play; Welcome To The Jungle Bedroom Concert. Then, why not? One of the most beautiful songs of all time, Bayini, sung by Gurrumul and Delta Goodrem, on The Voice.

A very young Tommy Emanuel was once part of a very young John Farnham's band. John sure knew how to put together a great band!

It is a very sad love song. It is about 2 people who love each other but they are already married to different people and know that it is tragically futile.

Thank you for your wonderful and honest reactions. I love the chemistry between you and the respect you show each other. For a song where John doesn't over-power his female partner try Amazing Grace with Vanetta Fields and Lindsay Field (czcams.com/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/video.html). Probably another song that isn't your cup of tea but truly remarkable vocal performances, especially by Vanetta and John - the 1st half without musical accompaniment. Starts off very slow, but stay with it! Another example of John putting his backing singers into the spotlight, as he did with Lisa Edwards with Angels. Another pairing where John doesn't rule the roost is My Yiddishe Momme with Tom Jones (czcams.com/video/y0AAsl20VeY/video.html). Tom his one of John's favourite singers.
