Georgia marks Independence Day amid protests against 'foreign agent law' | DW News

  • A military parade has been held to mark Georgia's Independence Day. The event in the capital Tbilisi follows weeks of protests and unrest over new legislation which critics say threatens democracy. The so-called 'Foreign Agent' bill requires media and non-profit organizations to register if more than 20% of their funding comes from abroad. The law was passed by Parliament but vetoed by Georgia's president who attended the ceremony. The ruling Georgian Dream party is, however, set to start parliamentary proceedings to overide that presidential veto.

The "President" of Georgia was born in Paris, France. She worked for the French foreign Ministry in the early 2000s. She then became the french ambassador to Georgia and later took Georgian citizenship and became the "President". She has 2 children, one of the them works for french news outlet France24, the other works for the French foreign ministry. Georgia has 2000 schools and 25 000 NGOs (90% of which receive undisclosed foreign funding from Intel cut-outs), they have more NGO "employees" than they have schools teachers. That's how "independent" Georgia is.

The Indepenedence day mentioned in Georgia on 26 May and Armenia on 28 May have nothing to do with independence from USSR, but are related with establishing the first republics in 1918 after the collapse of Turkish Ottoman Republic and the Russian revolution of 1917. It is a mistake on Maria Katamadze's side to talk about the last 30 years of Independence, because the Independence days form the USSR are celebrated on other days.

More to the point….how independent is the EU? Now that’s something to debate until the proverbial cows come home. It’s interesting the EU wants a law scraped that outs foreign interference….why? Is it so you can keep n interfering perhaps?

Georgians want neutrality. But there is no choice. The law is not only about 'no interfearance'. Russia already occupies 20% of Georgia. Clearly interferance. It's better that EU inteferes with Georgia, rather than Ruzzia.

I hope the georgian government learnend that lesson.
But the actual government there has the majority behind them. Its way smaller
and has no right wing radicals to whom a human life means nothing.
