New subscriber here, what's the name of that place? I plan on visiting Alaska Kenai next year and would love to do some salmon fishing when i get there, looking forward to your reply. thanks
It depends every year when the sockeye fishing is good, but the 3rd week in July is probably the best time to go. And limit starts at 3 fish, but once they start seeing a couple 100,000 days of fish coming through the river they will raise the limit to 6.
Been living in kenai 12 years..was surprisingly overpacked this july, with traffic backed up to the highway at one of the main spots a few times..personaly i try to avoid the tourist crowd..just crazy overcrowded sometimes
@@michaelwalton7816 I saw the fish count was over 100k everyday for five days so I can see why people flocked over there from anchorage and other parts of Alaska.
The Department of Fish and Game encourages fishermen to throw their carcasses in the river to avoid problems with bears getting into garbage cans/dumpsters and to fertilize the waters.
Uh, no. I’ve lived on the lower river since 1982 and a plain hook is illegal. You need something on your line to make it a lure and bead or yarn is used the most. Some use flies. The size of the hook in the lower and middle river is unlimited. The only difference in the upper river regulations is the the gap of the hook has to be 3/8th inch or less.
@@kdholtan2646 Thanks, must be my misunderstanding of the regs. You live in a beautiful place, don't take it for granted. Why is it that a bare hook is illegal?
@@randytrimble3493 I honestly don’t know why it’s a regulation considering the technique used (which your video shows so well). It’s glorified snagging, but maybe requiring a “lure” makes it seem like it’s fair chase. Hope you can make it back to AK again. This year the pink salmon will overlap with the red salmon. The pink run is even larger than the red run. You can floss them too, but they are willing biters so we catch them on bait, spinners, plugs, jigs, spoons, just about anything.
Enjoy your last year of access to that hole… CIRI is no longer going to allow people to park there and hike. Too many people not staying on trail and walking off trail to sand bar below you.
Do you know the name of that spot sir? I plan on visiting Alaska with my son and would love to try some salmon fishing when i do. thanks for your reading and hope you will reply
It's a place the locals call The Pipeline, across the river from Poacher's Cove. To get there on foot you have to park on and walk through land owned by CIRI, a Native American Corporation. Technically you need a permit from them to access their land, but I have never heard that they enforce it. There are reports that they may start doing so because of damage to their properties.
Exactly, so typical North American attitude to nature and living beings. Absolutely no respect. Nobody in Europe or Australia or New Zealand handles fish like this, regardless of whether they are kept or released. Only lots of Canadians and Americans do that. Disgraceful.
Having fun...get that...kicking the salmon? Not cool..how would you like going underwater and getting your head kicked in? Joke...respect the catch or don't fish these amazon salmon..
Not showing the effort to throw your carcass farther out of the way of other people fishing is very very rude and if I would have been there I would have let you know exactly that!!!!!!!!
Amateur hour, that is partly why indigenous won't for much longer let anglers pass over their land to the fishing spots. Not just damage to property (which this angler did not seem to commit) but total disrespect for the fish and catch. Disgusting.
Great job guys. I love all your videos. Keep them coming.

Hello I'm just curious I've fished the kenai but haven't been to that particular area..Would love to try out that spot? Looks incredible?
Nice salmon bro 🤘👍
Great video!! Any advice for me as I will be coming down from Fairbanks on 6 Aug to fish?
Red run might be tough but go up river and into smaller streams might be good!
Amazing day guys. I wish I could fish a salmon someday. Should you be aware of finding a bear?

We are planning our trip for next July. Is the fishing that great too 3rd week of July? How many sockeye can we keep a day? Thanks

My friend is a guide there and he likes silver fishing in September....
What weight fly rod is that?
8 or higher
What month?
I fished the Kenai river every day from August 1 through the 21 and l limited out every day. Good thing the red runs were late.
I live in Washington state and would like to go there next season, what time the year is prime time and river?
@@rushintofishin81seems like August lol
Isn't there a possession limit which is usually 2x the daily bag limit?
@@bbmatfreddy 6 per day last year

Can I fish in September?
Definitely it's silver salmon runs at that time

There are possession limits arnt there?
Ain't it illegal to throw carcasses back into the river? Asking for a friend haha, it is everywhere round the midwest
The Department of Fish and Game encourages fishermen to throw their carcasses in the river to avoid problems with bears getting into garbage cans/dumpsters and to fertilize the waters.
Legally with that setup you need a bead or yarn
It depends on if you are on the upper Kenai or lower Kenai. No bead or yarn needed on the lower Kenai.
It’s illegal to fish with a plain hook on the Kenai River. You have to add something to make it a lure. Yarn or a bead works.
You are confusing the upper and lower Kenai regulations.
