  • Finally put the Solo Skiff in the water for it's maiden voyage. I spent a couple hours in the backwaters of Oak Island, NC starting to break in the Mercury 5HP 4-stroke outboard. I had a great time and the Solo Skiff is going to be awesome. I hope you enjoy the video.

      No set up needed George. I plan to just motor out somewhere, stop, and just watch the fish jump in as I drink a cold one.

    Ahh the maiden voyage. First of many. Looks like you're all set for fishing in style 😎. When can we expect an overnight camping, fishing, catch and cook?

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  Před 3 lety +2

      You know 8, I hope to do some of that. One of the reasons I bought this watercraft. I can go long range. As you are aware, the catch part can be tricky with me. Maybe a camping, fishing (go by Publix Store) and cook?

    Congratulations. Now the fun begins and once the engine is broken in and you can go full throttle then, there will be another learning curve. Tight Lines.

      @myadventureoutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      One thing it didn't take me long to discover. I have zero experience with tiller handle outboards. If you have some speed going and you turn the tiller too hard, I can see how a person could get slung out of the boat. The Solo seems to turn on a dime. I have a lot of respect for you taking the skiff into the ocean under some sketchy conditions.

    • @markr9312

      @@myadventureoutdoors Thanks. Yes the faster you go the quicker the steering becomes. The need to make small corrections is even more critical when the water is like a washing machine. The Solo Skiff is amazing in it's ability to go over even the roughest water. It's the operator being able to stay on board, due to the forces being generated by our weight trying to continue the original direction of movement as things change constantly. It's part of the fun and learning experience. The nice thing is where you live you also have way more flat water areas even when the wind blows, then we get on the West Coast, Tight Lines

    I like it! I’m glad the motor is working great. It’s a good looking boat with plenty enough power.... Next time you catch a 400 pound shark it won’t be able to pull you around as easily as when you catch 400 pound sharks in your kayak I bet. The beer chug was pretty funny! 🍺👍🏻

    Looks like it moves along at a pretty good clip. Any idea what the top speed is going to end up being? I have a dream trip that I want to take on something like that, but the logistics are going to be a booger. I would need something with the ability to take on the occasional large swell, run in the 18-20 mph range consistently for a few days, and be pretty comfortable while doing it.

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm thinking around 15mph until I can get it broke in and test the speed. Sounds like you need a few more horses for what you want to do. Sounds like an adventure.

    • @mountainsmoore3657
      @mountainsmoore3657 Před 3 lety

      @@myadventureoutdoors I do a fair bit of canoe/kayak camping, so I know how to pack small & light, but I am thinking that I would like to be able to have a bit more room to move around. I've looked at the gheenoes that are just a little bit on the larger side, but not the huge ones. Although, 15 mph on a solo skiff might be do-able for what I want to do. It will just make for some long days.
