    I'm so close to pulling the trigger on one since the Solo Skiffs are unavailable but this video is what keeps me from buying. Seeing that aft end just buried in the water. It looks like it's struggling. I watch videos of the soloskiff and it always looks up on plane with the aft section pretty dry.

    Sure is steep pricing for what's basically a kayak without a drive so really should be kayak pricing. Around 1000-1200 seems reasonable. They also really missed the mark not doing rod holder holes that go into the bow like a pro angler.Seen that warping top and it's never seen water so that's definitely worrisome especially after heavy use i bet it tacos pretty quickly

  • @kyamukun76
    @kyamukun76 Před 2 lety +1

    Thinking of replacing my pedal yak with this. But I'm curious how you maneuver this without the motor. I'm assuming you're using the motor to get out to your location. Once you are fishing what are you using to move around? I'm assuming paddle, in which case is it a standup paddle or kayak paddle? Figure this would be perfect for rivers which is where I fish mostly. No need to have a truck pick me up at take out or use a shuttle. Just drift down and motor back up!

    • @30mofishing
      @30mofishing  Před 2 lety

    Aloha Ty, how does it compare to your Solo Skiff. The one con to me of a Solo Skiff is the weight 150 lbs. I really appreciate your honesty in the review, you were not bought by HOODOO. I like the motor mount, lighter weight, and even the more compact size compared to my Solo Skiff. If I had this skiff the first thing I'd do is install a forward 4" round screw lid hatch between the grab handle and fish box just so I can sponge the inner hull of any water. Mahalo nui Ty.

    • @30mofishing
      @30mofishing  Před 3 lety +2

      aloha ! the solo is a slicker more solid made boat. but like u said its 150 and needs a trailer. this guy is the wight of a lot of yaks. chunk it in the back of the truck easy!

    • @jif.6821
      @jif.6821 Před 3 lety

      @@30mofishing Aloha Ty, another observation you made I liked was that this Hero 130 would work fine with a 2.5hp outboard. When I bought my Solo Skiff I already had a 2.5hp Suzuki as well as a 3hp Tanaka which I run on my square stern canoe. These motors felt anemic on the heavy Solo Skiff hull so I felt I had to purchase a higher hp motor. I got a 6hp Tohatsu which puts the Solo on plane, no problem. If the Hero 130 was available 3 years ago it would have saved me initial hull purchase price as well as the cost of a trailer, and a higher hp motor. I have a bum back which required 4 surgeries which limits my lifting capacity, so the one time I tried truck-bedding my Solo was my first, and last time. Mahalo again for your honesty in your great reviews. Keep up the great work! Aloha a hui hou.

  • @woodystemms3799
    @woodystemms3799 Před 3 lety +1

    Lots of flex in the improvised lean-post/grab-rail. A plus or minus? Without molded-in rod holders, the accessory rails could get crowded. No trim adjustment on the 5 hp engine?

    • @30mofishing
      @30mofishing  Před 3 lety

      no flex on rail. not an improv. its a Hobie rail that goes in the gear tracks. I love it on that boat. folds forward out of way. if u trim up motor u have to go straight. if u turn prop will hit Side walls of the back deck cut out.

    • @woodystemms3799
      @woodystemms3799 Před 3 lety

      @@30mofishing Actually, I was thinking of trimming the engine in the other direction. Adjusting to the "one less than vertical" position ( towards the stern ) helps keep the bow in the water
      without a tiller extension or a passenger in front. Our old 4 HP Mariner ( Yamaha ) has that position available, but it might it not be a common feature in other outboards.

  • @AhnkoCheeOutdoors
    @AhnkoCheeOutdoors Před 2 lety +1

    Aloha Ty. If I got this skiff first thing I'd do is install a 4" screw-on lid 4 access hatch between the bow handle and forward built-in cooler just for the purpose of sponging out any water that sneaks in there. I'd also run my 2.5 hp Suzuki which weighs in at 30 lbs. as opposed to my 6 hp Tohatsu which is double that at 60 lbs. I already own a Solo Skiff going on 3 years, but I suffer from a chronic back condition, and it only gets worse the older I get. I'd get rid of the Solo Skiff, and trailer, and just throw this Hero 130 into my truck bed, something I tried once and failed at with my Solo Skiff. 100 lbs. vs 150 lbs. just the hull alone sounds great. Mahalo for a great review, and observations.

    I GOT A LOT OF QUESTIONS...
    Can't you just buy an aftermarket drain plug for it?
    Maybe it was a MFG oversight?
    Throw a sponge in the center hatch.. BAM!
    Did you try trimming the motor in on the bottom to bring the nose down?
    Did you try just steering by pushing the hand rail left and right?
    What was your top speed?
