i like these discussions, it shows that most indie devs are struggling with the same challenges. nice to see that there are other developers who develop games without an engine like i do ;-)

As an indie game developer I spend a lot of my "free time" listening to podcasts or watching videos like this. It's more educational than most of the game dev tutorials out there!

Love your content man! That probably hit home when he said that he really discouraged people from quitting their job and going full time into their dream game. Personally, I think its extremely admirable with what your doing, and I believe you will succeed. Btw, Michael Kocha would be a great guest for your podcast. Hes a game dev youtuber as well and has done pretty well for himself. Id love to see him on. Cheers

Oh it's the "glad i didn't start with unity" guy 😀
For me, it was funny to see the reactions because one generation back, people would say "i'm glad i started with C instead of python". I'm not old enough for the "you kids with the C, we had to write assembler" stuff. Well, you got start somewhere~ i'd recommend to start with the stuff thats feels fun to learn and do, whatever that may be.
Nice interview, Brandon! You're doing really well. Has this been recorded before the move or are you back on the saddle?

Also started with assembler back in the 80's and 90's but won't look back now that I've developed 2 full titles in Unity. It's Visual Studio integration is one of my main reasons for this. It's really easy to debug a game while playing.

You can see a common theme among successful indie developers. Great interview.

Hey what happened with "Veil of Maia"? Haven't seen any updates on it in a while. Is it still under development?

Any initial thoughts on Unity's $%^storm about 2024 Installed runtime revenue model? Looks like a moving target of the Initial statement, then damage control updates on what's not included... tons of ways this might affect or not affect people. The only thing that it DID do was piss off ALOT of people right off the bat honestly.

It looks like they wanted controversy to get people's attention. For their sake I hope they can handle the fallout of such a short sighted move. There are a lot of developers than can simple switch game engines or even use open source frameworks for their next game.

  • @buttonsoftware496

I've developed several games without using a game engine but after starting to use Unity a few years ago, I won't go back to writing games from scratch. Instead of spending several years making a game I now spend less than a year. The last 2 games I made using Unity are Gem Rifts and Fantasy Survivors, both on Steam.

Hey Fluffy! You said that you have spent ... hours on ... project. How do you know that?

    • @DaFluffyPotato
      @DaFluffyPotato Před 11 měsíci

Some of it was logged and some of it was estimated. Both of my released games were around 100 hours of work in a couple months, so it's not hard.

How he work in aerospace without a degree? Hopefully not some military contractor. They profit off human death and misery.

It was a startup that sold parts to a lot of launch providers overwhelmingly for satellites and test launches. (Companies doing what SpaceX does.)

@@DaFluffyPotato Good to hear! Way better than anything on my resume!
I don't even bother trying to apply for jobs anymore.... My work history is so bad I may as well write "prison" and "escaped" for previous employment and why I quit!
