    Have a network with around 35 Unifi switches, APs and cameras and on the whole the experience has been good. Had a few PSUs on the switches go pop after a few years but these are easily replaced. Cameras are excellent, UI for CCTV is very good as is the UI for the system as a whole but the firewall on the Dream Machine Pro is an absolute basket case which has led to it sitting on a shelf with a home brewed Ubuntu box doing the firewalling and IDS.
    If it had a GUI more like OpnSense I'd be using it.

    is this more enterprise type of hardware or is it suitable for a home network to? I work in IT but no network engineer ( well I did my CCNA back in the day but alot has changed since then ) but if its got a simple to use GUI or web interface that would be good for me

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před 6 měsíci

      That is actually one of the great advantages of Unifi from Ubiquiti, which lets IT managers implement solutions without having in depth knowledge of a given solution. I would definitely use this if I were you. Latest firmware has pretty advanced options from the GUI with easy implementation and security such as easy remote access trough VPN to your home/office. I do have my own home setup around unifi equipment and it works great. You can start with a Unifi Dream Machine ( amzn.to/48MsaG7 ) or the UDM Pro if you are going to go for IP surveillance (great cameras by the way)

      @@TechnologyMoments I have a small server rack in the garage so can get the rack options.
      When I eventually feel like upgrading I might get these .

      @@PatrickGuerrisi Think of unify kind of like the Apple of network hardware not counting cost (for good reason). Pretty good hardware that's easy to use, but the support sucks not counting RMA's. It can be used in the enterprise but is really meant for the small to mid size business which also makes it good for home users so long as you don't mind dealing with their forums or a third party if you have a major problem that's not hardware related.

    Hello, I need to create WiFi home network of bigger coverage including PoE cameras. I already have some cameras from other brand, is UniFi PoE equipment combatible? Also, do you know some other Brands providing network hardware systems?
    Thanks, and great video!

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi, and thank you for your comments. For compatibility just check if equipment as client devices support PoE, most unifi switches are PoE, some other PoE+ and most recently for more powerfull and faster equipment PoE++. Most of the cameras are PoE, followed by PoE+ . Most Unifi Switches are PoE+ As for the brand it does not matter as long as the PoE standard matches client and switch. Hope it helped. You might also want to check Omada equipment from TP Link of which we have created several videos and we've liked it. (amzn.to/3P5BDAs )

    1:46 What do you think about pro aggregation switches instead of the US-16-XG's?

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před rokem +1

      We've used it in the US16XG and works very good. could not give an honest opinion of the Aggregation Switches. In the US16, just adding two you'll have a fantastic 20, 30 or even 40 Gbps links with the advantage of the added link redundancy. On the other hand in some PRO models you'll now find SFP28 ports in case you are focusing on robust backbones.

    Is it possible to simultaneously record videos on cloud key and unifi dream mashine pro se?

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před měsícem

      Not that we're aware of as that would be redundancy in device adoption not available on the GUI. Sounds like a great idea though

    we I have many businesses with cloud key plus AP's and switches but running Draytek routers. If we want to move away from Draytek what "router" device should we get for firewall/vpn/vlan/ethernet and vdsl WANs? What happens when we add a device if the system already includes a cloud key plus with network controller config? Thanks

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před 10 dny

      You can choose from several, and our prefered one is the UDM SE ( amzn.to/4cYvT5q ). It includes all services needed to run the Netowrk Application and even IP surveillance Protect App (we love it) Other alternatives we've also liked the UDM (amzn.to/3zU64Vm ) which also includes the Network Application, and its newest version the Dream Router ( amzn.to/3yinWZI ) These UDM and Dream Router include a built in AP (very good ones) in WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 resepectively . Hope it helps.

      That’s been my experience as well. They need to catch up with expectations. However, even my HP experience has been shit lately. After investing over $200k with HPE for our main stack, we’ve had firmware update problems that have led to bricked switches. It took HP two weeks to accept responsibility and a week to get us a replacement. At $799 for a comperable switch from UniFi, their Pro Max 24 PoE, I’m willing to just keep a spare or two on the shelf for the emergency moments. They both have supply chain issues as of late. While UniFI will show Out of Stock on their website, CDW will just say that there are dropshipping delays from HP. So, we’re slowly moving our network to UniFi. Now, I get to find an alternative to SonicWALL firewalls.

  • @MelroyvandenBerg
    @MelroyvandenBerg Před měsícem

    Well. SOunds nice, but I don't like this UniFi idea. Maybe its just me. I do like their products I think, but I don't like this single point of failure.

      It is not like that at all, but I understand absolutely your doubts. If I were to implement a new infrastructure and I did not know anything about them I would thoroughly talk to people who have used them for at least a year. Good luck with your projects.

    Don't buy this stuff if you live in the UK. The returns process is done by sending stuff to the Netherlands. Your products get customs charges for returns! This stuff is garbage!

    • @TechnologyMoments

      Good information to note. Just to let everyone know, even with Amazon returns, is something that is still happening all over the world.

    UNIFI IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME! You have to use their server and if it doesn't work you are screwed. If you don't have the right Java or if it conflicts with something It just doesn't work. And they have had this problem for over 10 years! SAD!

    • @TechnologyMoments
      @TechnologyMoments  Před 4 měsíci +1

      A weakness that many have pointed out. For remote access may be a headache. Has improved a lot but still a long road ahead. Thanks!

    • @libertine5606
      @libertine5606 Před 4 měsíci

      It's just sad that they are still trying to sell a product with so little support. I guess it's all about getting their stuff out the front door and the money in the bank. Funny how you go to their server and it's so easy to order their product that is useless without the software to run it.

      That’s correct ubiquiti is not for primetime as of yet but will be soon. It’s more for small businesses and personal use The UI is getting better and better only time will tell. been using it for four years with minimal issues 👍
