  • This recording formed part of the Guyana SPEAKS event, 'How Food Functions as a Unifying Force within the Guyanese Community' that took place on Sunday, 30th April 2023 at 3.30pm UK time. Her fellow speakers were Eon John, the Singing Chef, and Sonia Gossai, a talented freelance writer and food critic.
South London's popular Guyanese Restauranteur, Faye Gomes, is the owner of the Original Kaieteur Kitchen. Her restaurant, situated in Elephant and Castle, is one of the most visited parts of London, and attracts many city workers as well as people from the African and Caribbean diaspora. Faye is one of the many south London traders who moved into the newly developed Castle Square. Loyal customers as well as new ones followed Faye to her new location, which now allows customers to eat inside as opposed to her uniquely Guyanese outdoor stall. She recently observed: "People from my old spot have never stopped coming, they feel at home here and that is the beauty of my kitchen."
Faye was filmed and interviewed by co-founders of Guyana SPEAKS, Juanita Cox & Rod Westmaas.
