    Hello, question!
    I just bought a boat with Simrad Nss12 Evo3
    With old Furuno radar
    Will this simrad work with this radar dome?
    And does it come with all necessary cables to connect to my Evo3
    Thanks

      Hi Frank,
      Unfortunately your simrad evo 3 will not work your furuno radar. They aren't compatible with each other. You would have to replace the radar and put a simrad radar. What size boat do you have so I can recommend the right size radar?

      Nice Boat! The radar you need for your boat is the halo 20 +. The autopilot you need is the AP 44 medium capacity pack autopilot. Be sure to purchase your equipment from an authorized simrad dealer. The place I went that I know is an authorized simrad dealer is D&B Marine Supplies. It is linked in the description. Also, you can find the radar and autopilot you are looking for in those links as well. Another thing a lot of people don't know is that if you are not installing it yourself you can hire a certified simrad installer and you will even have the option to get extended warranty from simrad.

    Go where there is boat traffic and show how you track targets(ie moving vessels) and avoid them. Lots of boaters just utilize radar for safety/collision avoidance and would find this very helpful.

    Great information. I have a Simrad Go9. Does the Halo20+ plug and play with my unit? Does it have its own power source or get power from the Go9 or other Simrad display unit. Would I have to add a switch to turn the unit off and on when not in use? Thanks

    • @Capitano_Davide
      @Capitano_Davide  Před 3 lety +3

      Q 1.Yes and no on your first question. It does plug into your simrad to give information to the simrad. But it doesn't cause your unit todo wierd things. You would control the radar from your unit.
      Q 2.Yes and no on this one to. You can make it get power from the boat or the unit or both. This is so if the unit loses power so you can still use the radar.
      Q 3.No you wouldn't need to add another switch to turn the radar on and off. You control it completly from the simrad unit. It can go in either standby which doesn't use power and basically means its off. Or it can be in transmit which means its on and transmitting.
      This can be turned on and off by simply selecting the radar option on your home screen. Then selecting the menu button, the button with three bars on the top left of the screen. Then selecting transmit to turn on or seleting standby to put in standby (turn off).

      I would first try changing between the different modes and see if that helps you get the result you want. Maybe harbor mode might be it. If that isn't it, try playing around with the gain and clutter in different modes to try and fine tune your radar. If you anchor in a harbor or bay near a busy channel you can play around with the radar and learn how to read and fine tune your radar. There are several different factors that play into it how the setting should be set. So it may vary from day to day for you. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!

      Bird mode has always worked for me because I learned to use it at the dock so when I went offshore it would work. You really just need to play with it because depending how much gain you and clutter you have will cause to see different things. Typically a bird is a yellow dot. I have been able to see birds up to 3 miles away. I will do a video on this in the future. Not sure when thou so be sure and subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don't miss that video. • @Capitano_Davide
      @Capitano_Davide  Před 3 lety +1

      The Transom Mount Transducer I am going to recommend is the Simrad 3 in 1 Active Imaging Transducer. This is $299.99. I have heard a lot of good things about this transducer. And have been told it works well inside of 250 ft of water. Then as far as your unit a 12" screen should be good if you want to upgrade. There are several options.
      1. You could get a Nss 12 Evo 3 (non S) for $2999.99.
      2. You could get the go 12 XSE for $2299.99 (this is almost as good as the Evo 3 but, the biggest difference will be that it doesn't have the side button bar.
      3. You could the NSS 12 Evo 3 S for $3999.99 (this is definitely the best unit of the three)
      4. You could get the Evo 3 S Nss12 Bundle that way you get the Halo 20 + radar and the Chartplotter for $5599.99
      5. You could get the Go 12 XSE bundle with the halo 20 + Radar and the 3 in 1 transducer for $4199.99
      Also, can you get all of these things in this message from dbmarinesupplies.com with FAST FREE 1-3 Day Tracked Shipping and if you have any warranty issues they can help you with the process as they are a navico dealer. • @Capitano_Davide
      @Capitano_Davide  Před 3 lety +2

      Simrad is definitely a better unit than garmin as long as you are willing to spend some time learning how to use it. Garmin is very user friendly unit but, in contrast you will get some limitations from it. Garmin is good for navigation. Garmins brand of charts is a little better than the cmap but you can get a navionics chip and you will have a great chart. Although, cmap charts are still very good. Simrad does beat Garmin in navigation when it comes to the autopilot. I really love this feature because it is very precise and hands free. Simrad will keep you right on the line saving you fuel. While Garmin autopilot will almost keep you on the line to your waypoint but, will still be off. As far as downscan, side scan, and other features of that sort. A lot of it has to do with you getting a good transducer. But, when this is not the issue Simrad consistently beats Garmin in all these areas. The picture is much clearer and you can fine tune a little better than garmin. Going back to navigation simrad does have some better features in their charts then Garmin. This I have heard from talking to some installers. Also, simrad units are generally faster, more responsive, and have more advanced features than garmin. Also, the radar is a better radar than garmins. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Also, no matter which brand you chose. Would you still go with the Halo 24 over an open array on a 44’ flybridge vessel. Mounting over 20’ high above sea level ?

    • @Capitano_Davide
      @Capitano_Davide  Před 3 lety +1

      No, I wouldn't go with the halo 24 on your boat because of how high you're off the water. The open array radars are made for bigger boats that would be mounted high above the water line. Although closed Dome radars are better for close range use. It won't end up being better for you because you are so high off the water. You will need to go with an open array because the beam of the radar is different from the closed dome. You will still be able to see birds and other vessels and objects on your radar. It's just because of the height of your boat. Also, because of how the earth is round that also plays into affect. So, no don't go with the halo 24 go with the open array. You will be able to see a better picture with an open array than a closed dome given your situation. I believe the size radar array you need is the 4 ft array. If you haven't bought your equipment yet, I would recommend going through dbmarinesupplies.com because that is where I do all my shopping for my boating needs and the most important part is also that they are authorized simrad dealers so, if you have any warranty issues they can make the process a lot easier and less stressful.

    • @WharfRatNYC
      @WharfRatNYC Před 2 lety +1

      @@Capitano_Davide Just as a heads up, a solid state pulse compression radar like the HALO will actually pick up close range targets better with an open array than you would with a dome With no magnetron, there's no main bang, and with the more concentrated horizontal beam of an open array you put more energy on a target, producing a stronger echo. As far as height above the water line, both the dome and array have the same 25 degree vertical beam width, so the antenna height isn't a deciding factor when choosing a dome or array.

    • @Capitano_Davide
      @Capitano_Davide  Před 2 lety +1

      @@WharfRatNYC Hi, How are you? Thanks for watching the video I really hope you enjoyed watching. Closed domes are better for close range than open arrays. Even though what you are saying is mostly true. I am not sure exactly what it is but, closed dome radars have better target separation than open array radars at close range. Also, with the halo radars that are closed dome spinning at 60 RPM it allows you to see targets at close range easier. The open array radars have a stronger narrow beam which is why you see them on taller bigger boats. This way the can pick up targets easier farther away. This beam works better for boats that are big and tall. Ex: a sportfish But, the closed dome radars have a wider beam which makes it better to pick up targets at a close range and better for smaller boats that aren't as tall. The halo 24 closed dome has a 3.9 H X 22 V degree beam compared to the more common halo 4 open array which has a 1.9H X 25 V degree beam. The beam of the halo 24 is twice as wide. Because of this it allows you to see targets closer much easier. Let me know if you have any further question and I would be glad to provide more clarification. Thanks for watching!!!
