  • In this video, I attempt to remove the front bumper from my Porsche 911 / 997 and I walk you through the process I followed.
    This job requires patience, a delicate hand and making sure that you have absolutely, totally, definitely identified ALL the moldings, screws and fasteners you need to remove in order to get the bumper off without doing any damage.
    Note: ALWAYS consult a professional before attempting this kind of job if you’re unsure about any parts of it before you begin. I’m not a pro, as my channel name states! I’m learning as I go.

    I appreciate your candid video. Very refreshing. I have a 2010 997.2 turbo, there are not many, if any videos showing front bumper removal on this particular Porsche. I’ll be installing front intake mess. So thank you so much sir!

    Great progress, you are going to feel so much better knowing you did all the work yourself on the car. Yes clean the radiators while the bumper is off. Only thing I may add is that you might want to look at adding the vent grills as it keeps all that junk out as I have to clean my out all the time. I like the one's from Rennline but you can make your own very cheap. As mentions by others here your video will help someone for sure.

    Nice video. One time I replaced a dash in a 944. According to the Porsche service manuel, a 10 1/2 hour job. One of the best tech tips I got out of that job was to buy 100+ zip lock bags and a pad of post-its. As I started taking parts/screws off, I would label #1- to #?the post-it and put the parts in the baggie. Ended up with about 144 bags. Then when the new dash was in, reverse order the baggies. It took me an extra 4 hours because of the labeling and I had never done this kind of job before. I didn't lose any parts and no confusion. It was a perfect job.

    Really enjoying your videos. I was going to say that those words end with ING ... not INGK ... but that would add nothingk to your commentary.
    What did occur to me is that I’m so blessed to be watchingk videos about Porsche cars and ... wow! I own one. 😊 👍🏻👍🏻

    Great job! I’m surprised how much more difficult 997 is than 996, I did 996 in 15 minutes! Definitely clean the radiators. I’ve seen people make really nice looking grills with gutter guards painted with Plastidip.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 6 lety

      Thanks! You know, the only reason this took longer than half an hour is because of one thing... Removing the inner wheel linings from either front wheels. It would have been much easier on a lift with the wheel. That was time consuming and excruciating.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 6 lety

      I’ve seen the grills. I’m going to get some soon.

    Now is the time to clean and detail those wheel well liners!
    I'll also predict that the new Aerokit bumper stays on for good! LOL

      I think you’re right.... haha. Unless the dealer takes it off for me. It’s a LOT of work for a solo amateur. If I had a lift and a few more tool I think it would be a half hour job!

    Watching this is makes me think that I should replace my tail pipes on my 997 C2 with C2S ones by myself!!! Is a walk in the park compared to what you are doing there tho!!

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 6 lety

      Haha! Actually, I’ve heard replacing your tail pipes is pretty straight forward. I’m considering installing the Fister exhaust and swapping my exhaust tips at the same time. There are two things I’ve been told to keep in mind... 1) make sure you’re able to get under your car safely and 2) have a TON of WD-40 or similar fluid on hand to loosen up any bolts that have rusted themselves shut. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting!

    Great video and watching it as reference got me started on the bumper removal. I got stuck on the clip removal. It seems like the 2 clips are plastic and hidden right behind the holes for the headlight. You mentioned using hooks to pull them, but they won't budge. I use some small inspection mirrors and it seems like the clip slides on. Still any tips on how to get them out ?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 6 lety

      Do you mean the two clips inside the frunk, on the left and right?? Needle nose pliers.

  • @K1dPhresh1
    @K1dPhresh1 Před 6 lety +2

    Torch = Flashlight in American English. You forgot the most important tool for something like this, patience. It seems easy enough but just lots of little clips and screws in hard to reach places. Lots of stuff in the way as well... a ball ache indeed!! Congrats on the progress! Should help others in the future. What did the wife say when she came home to a 911 bumper on the island??

  • @jeffvining6534
    @jeffvining6534 Před 6 lety +1

    How does it work. With the different headlights, when you changed the bumper, is the extra space from the old lights only taken up with the new bumper?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 4 lety

      The contour of the two bumpers is exactly the same, so there is no change for the headlights. Does that answer your question?

  • @gimme5674

    Well done, nice step by step DIY for bumper removal and installation.
    I have a question, on 14:09 there is module straight after the aluminum reinforcement, what module is that?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! I’m not sure I see what you’re looking at. Do you mean on the front of the car or the next shot with the bumper on the floor?

    • @jayrussell8311
      @jayrussell8311 Před 2 lety

      The Homelink garage door module is located behind the aluminium bumper. If you look at 14:09, you can just see a black module to the left of the red frunk release lever.

  • @CubanDre
    @CubanDre Před 6 lety +1

    Great job! One thing I didn't even think about when I swapped my stock 996 carrera bumper for the 996 turbo bumper was the tow hook hole. In the rebar the hole is more center in the Carrera than it is in the turbo rendering my tow hook useless unless I open up the tow hook hole in the turbo bumper. Will you run into the same issue with the aerokit bumper?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Před 6 lety

      That’s a great question and I’m not sure to be honest! I believe the tow hook hole is in exactly the same location on the bumper. I do know though that there are several differences with the Turbo’s chassis that means some screws are in different places and that kind of thing. Makes sense that the tow is slightly different too. Let’s face it though, would you even let your 911 be towed?? I would sit back and wait for the flatbed truck to pick me up. Haha.

    • @CubanDre
      @CubanDre Před 6 lety +1

      That's what I did. Flatbed came and the driver wanted to use the tow hook to pull it up. Instead he ended up using the control arms... I was like um...it was pretty scary to watch
