    I was very intrigued by your reviews on the mdr-z7m2 and after coming across an open-box sale I got them. Enjoying them for a week and I am highly satisfied. This is the second headphone I get due to your reviews, first was AA X-55, and I am highly impressed by your correct and precise description of how these do the replays. Yes, they need power - I am feeding the with the Burson Soloist 3X and they present impressively. Additionally to your findings I want to share that I find them impressive in staging - a wide stage, with not only a good horizontal width but also with a good height, an impressive depth and very good layering of the composition. I want to say that with these dissections of a headphone that you do, you stand out from the crowd of reviewers that have 'subscriptions' to some companies' pipelines.

    These really need power and they love volume! With good power they never distort not even at maniac volumes! Incredible! They are not the most analytical phones I own but they definitely serve a purpose. I really enjoy them!

    I wonder if you have tried the Z1R, if so, where does the Z1R excel over the M2? Would the Z1R be a worthy upgrade to the M2 or just much of the same? What other dynamic headphone in your opinion would rival the M2 for bass and clarity?

      I have a strong bias against expensive cables. I have done lots of research and found no credible material showing that one cable has better sonic abilities than another. Either the cable transmits electrical current or it doesn't. If there is a difference it has to be so slight that it makes minor change in the current or makes significant changes only for special unicorn ears.
      I plugged in the Focal Clear into the 1Amp, and got a different experience. The headphones got loud around 120 on high gain, and increasing volume did not change the presentation of the instruments. I then used the standard cable from Sony on the Z7mk2 and then a cable I purchased from Periapt. Both cables for the Z7mk2 performed identically to each other. Further, both were consistent to my test with the balanced cable. The headphone has a different sonic presentation with more power.
      If Kimber wants to send me cables to test, I'd joyously do it. But I doubt they even know about me, and if they do, I doubt they'd want to subject their company to me.

    • @captainsparrow1229
      @captainsparrow1229 Před 4 lety

      @@NoThemeReviews I do agree with you, cables impedances can be different which MIGHT affect the power delivery to the headphones.
      I've only asked because some people claimed they hear a difference with kimber cable if you look that up online.

    This may be one of those times where burn in could help. Not always but this issue of not coming alive til loud has sometimes been due to less responsive tighter drivers out if the box. I don't want to start a burn in debate. Just sayin

    I ended up getting the Denon 7200 after reading countless reviews. It is 2nd place behind the focal Elegia in terms of exciting sound, and is way more comfortable for sure, but atleast for my head, I still was not 100% satisfied with the comfort listening for long periods of time. The sound is definitely better than anything else but the Elegia, and definitely overall dynamic range is better as well. Because of the fit I may return it. I have tried the Sony MdR-z7m2 at the shop and it was super comfy. But is the sound anywhere near as comparable as the 7200? What do I do? Should I get the Sony or the fostex Th900mk2 which seems to have the Elegia like sound as per reviews? Please advice.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  Před 4 lety

      I don't think you'll be particularly happy with the TH900's fit, either. I had to make modifications on mine to get them semi-comfortable. If you can change the pads or add some cushion to the D7200, would that make the fit better for you?

    • @VijayMohan
      @VijayMohan Před 4 lety

      No Theme Reviews I have to thank you for the recommendation. The sound is good, the ear fit is fine, it is just that it presses down on my head from the top and that is not very comfortable for long periods of time. Not sure how that pressure can be relieved.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  Před 3 lety

      I can't say; I don't have the SP200. It is plenty powerful on paper, and I can't imagine why it wouldn't push the drivers properly.

    @stepoku1271 Před 4 lety

    Currently using the m2 with a fiio e10k. the bass boost is a nice addition but Im wondering if I would benefit alot from a better dac/amp? Also wondering how these would stack up against the TR-X00 ebony... hmm to return and try the fostex or keep enjoying these :/

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  Před 4 lety

      I think so. The drivers in the M2 have a totally different character with sufficient power/volume. If you have access to a desktop amp, listen to the headphones with it. Amps like the 789, Monolith THX, AudioGd 1amp, etc. have plenty of power to get the headphone drivers to respond differently depending on the power.

    • @stepoku1271
      @stepoku1271 Před 4 lety

      @@NoThemeReviews Yeah just like I thought, I could kinda hear/feel it from the first listen that these might require more power then what the fiio e10k is able to provide. Any amp recommendations under 400 euros?

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  Před 4 lety

      @@stepoku1271 For tube amp, DarkVoice 336SE--it has plenty of power. For solid state...the Schiit Magni 3 should be able to drive the headphones, but IMO the Schiit products sound pretty grainy and steely (of course, that might turn out to be the right combo for you). The Burson Play is an excellent amp, too. The Monolith 887 is ridiculously powerful, getting close to the 1amp; I haven't heard it, but based on the specs, you shouldn't have any problems driving headphones.

      @MuhammadKharismawan Před 3 lety

      @@NoThemeReviews Yeah and it never is in their philosophy to make a headphone like that, they're a company that put an impedance compesator to the MA900 so it became an 8ohm headphone that can be driven and sound the same on basically any amp. this unusual mark on their lineup migth be why some people love the Z7M2 to bits while some other Z7 and Z1R owners don't.
