    If quality of informational content was a key factor to CZcams success, this channel belongs in the "criminally undersubscribed" category. I've yet to see this level of straight to the point no nonsense educational content from anything newer than the excellent training videos they used to train military technical personnel back in the 2nd world war and cold war eras.

    Great explanation. One thing I will add that I learned in school (car mechanic here), is that the valve can also be used to help regenerate the DPF. The ECM closes the valve partially to slow down the flow of air to the cylinders. This in turn increases the temperature of the exhaust wich in turn increases the temperature in the DPF to burn off the soot.

    thank you for that video, honestly, .your explanation is very precise, when I saw the throttle valve on modern Diesel Engine I wonder of the purpose of putting this valve because we control the speed of Diesel Engine buy controlling the amount of fuel in the injection. When I saw this video, now I understand the purpose of the throttle valve on Diesel Engine.

  • @4G12
    @4G12 Před rokem +5

    Other than the 2 functions already mentioned in the video, another possibility is the use of the diesel throttle valve to reduce NOX emissions by reducing air ingestion and effectively enrich the air/fuel mixture in "part throttle" situations, which is the vast majority of an engine's operational regime during normal road use. The anti shudder function could also be used as a mechanism to prevent diesel runaway condition by literally suffocating the engine.

    Finally someone gives a clear explanation. Unfortunately it does lead to one more question for me: if it immediately opens for starting and running, and goes fully closed only momentarily for shutdown, what is the point of the 45° position when off? It seems like it would be better to default to full-open so that if the mechanism fails, your only result will be a shakier shutdown, but power operation will remain unaffected as it will simply behave like an engine with no shutter valve.
    EDIT: nevermind, the next video pretty much explains this. The neutral 45° state is probably the most common position during warm idle and cruise.

    My hilux kun25 doesnt have power take off, Ive been blaming the throttle valve but now this video has convinced me that it isnt it. It gains power after take off when taco meter exceeds 1500rpm and when going up hill it slugs I have worked on the fuel system from the tank up to the injectors but nothing hes changed what could be the problem? Another thing that I am suspicious is the fuel regulator

    • @stephenmaas8775
      @stephenmaas8775 Před 2 měsíci

      Did you find out the problem? Have you had any issue with your surpentine belt? the tensioner or idle pulley, if the belt is not tight enough it can slip which apperently can effect the car under laod and effect acceloration and delaythrottle response🤔 i'm having the same issues and was confused with the fully open throttle butterfly. I've spent hours watching vids on here and searching every which way and reading loads on google until I found this guys video! 🙏
      Been a joke! Not one person has explained it and not just that but such a bloody simple breakdown, makes you wonder what all the other plonkers on here are even bothering making vids.😮

    Hi bud, I have the weirdest problems on my Honda Civic tourer 2014 i-dtech diesel. I went to change the air filter and thought to check and clean the throttle body butterfly. It was fully open which I thought was strange as had no real issues, I mean I have thought the car was a little sluggish on acceleration (delayed) and thought maybe my EGR choking. I always put good quality treatment into fuel and try different types so thought maybe not so... Lately had a little stuttering at the first few lights after leaving the house first thing but not when pulling off the drive?
    My throttle body was fully open with engine off, I sprayed it and wiped but was pretty clean... as clean you could wish for, I sprayed in with engine running spurts of spray at a time but no movement with butterfly?
    I had my naibours grandchild come with half decent scan tool tablet a month or two earlier to check car after I gave him a toe and he said that there was no codes, which he thought was suprising. I dont know if he knows fully whats wha but he mentioned my pedal showing depressed 19% ?? he didnt start the car with scan tool plugged in which I asked and said that I thought you could but he said not with his tool. He said he wiped the car for any codes anyhows. Oh I did have a funny few weeks with my battery dying a while back and got that checked but came back fine (just needs a charge so I bought a smart charger and let it do its thing but it kept dying on me and then I put the battery on a full repair charge and its been fine since plus i've kept car in a lower gear to charge up more as my brother said I was driving like a pussy... trying to save miliage 😂 Any idea bud why my butterfly is full open with no real issue on idle or revs going high and once the car warms up all other issues apart from sluggish accelorator dissapear! oh and I disconnected the battery a few times to charge so I assume the sensor would have reset as ive heard on another vid to disconect the negative.
    I have been worried why my surpentine/alternator belt seems slightly worn on the outside but looks great on the ribbed inside? I thought maybe my issues was the belt tensioner or idle pulley but strange how the black is wearing off on the outside and all looked good with no movement on the tensioner. I did hear the other night late on when it was quiet a little rythmic chirp ever so quiet which i've not heard before which makes me think the idle pulley but cant make head way with the throttle body butterly fully open?

      Because its a diesel throttle valve. It doesnt work like what you typically see on a gas engine.

      @stephenmaas8775 Před 2 měsíci

      Now my heads thinking compression after watching your video... gasoline vs Diesel.
      I can only assume it would either be a fuel issue which I dont think so because car starts first time and fuel runs smooth once warmed up! it's just pulling off from the first few junctions and lights in the morning, plus I changed the fuel filter OEM part 2 years ago when I got it, I mean unless the fuel pump has no interaction on a cold start up and then flip flops untill warms up and then works fine..?
      I dont know or have a clue how fuel pump works or how they can start to fail, something I've never looked into yet.
      You said in that video if a diesel has good fuel intake and good compression then a diesel engine will run and run and ignites without the glow plug once initiated, running from compressed air temprature ignitions.
      This has got me thinking also with my oil levels... you stated I think in your video PCV valves that if bad compression in chamber and leaking past pistons then fuel amongst other nasties get into my oil and if the PVC system not working... I have noticed what looks like slight oil on the past 2 air filter and in the centre but from outside air intake side which I had thought was unusual? My oil has not lost a drop in 2 years since i drained and changed it. first car ever and with 100,000miles thought to good to be true! Almost seemed like it was ever so increased even... which I thought was maybe me checking oil on a slight incline or that the oil moves around chambers and gets stuck in sumps n places. I was thinking it could be the PCV Valve having issues jamming up and once engine heated up the crusty oil scud starts to loosen and alow pressure flow away better? Have you any off the cuff ideas or any tips to try and get to the bottom of this?
      Or even if I was to get my naibours grandchild with his scan tool tablet... what things I could ask him to check for on it that would be a tell tale signs. 💩🙈 gonna cost me a fortune!!
      Or my mind!🤣😂😂

      The thing that gets me though is that if I give it more revs ie fuel before i take off the clutch, I dont get the stuttering... like its trying to stall out on me as much. if at all most times??

      When you say left open...? scan it... can the EGR be relearned? and if so could this be my issue with sluggish acceleration and stuttering almost.. engine knocking wanting to stall.
      On a morning start It starts great and first time and I take off but soon as I get to the first lights not far from home and try to take off again the car sounds starved of fuel and does this at a few traffic lights untill warmed up and then all is good, It also seems to have gotten a little worse lately but seems slightly better when I pre press the accelorator to give it some diesel before lights change and I put it into gear? My acceleration seems delayed but I have no other running issues and idle seems spot on. Any help or ideas be mucho apprichiated!

    Now that you know what the butterfly valve is please Stop calling it a Throttle Body because clearly it has Nothing to do with regulating the amount of fuel. VCV (diesel fuel Volume Control Valve) regulates the fuel, the same job as Throttle on a Gasolene or Steam engine. Throttle is about Vapourised fuel control
