Wow what a great video explanation for both diesel and gas! My Volkswagen Jetta 2001 TDI (the ALH diesel engine) has a pcv valve on it on it btw. One of the most efficient and reliable engines ever made by VW probably. It’s definitely a valve though, I’ve taken it apart and there’s a membrane in there to make sure air only flows in one direction. It connects from the valve cover to the intake after the turbo compressor but before the intercooler. My guess as to why they thought it was needed on the diesel is because the boost pressures can fluctuate between positive and negative pressure depending on the RPM and if it’s in limp mode.
You are the best professor so far in explaining how PCV valve works! And also why it is called POSITIVE. Maybe you could also do a video about how to fix high oil consumption. I have a 2006 RAV4 which consumes a quart of oil for every 300 miles! It is a well known fact with 2006 to 2009 RAV4.
The best PCV valve there is on CZcams. I upgraded my diesel engine with a bigger turbo and was worried about the excessive blow-by and wanted to add an oil catch can but didn't get a good answer or explanation from other videos. Thank you for your videos.
Great information and well presented! Thank You for putting your heart and soul into the presentation to explain the Blowby and PCV valve’s functions positives and negatives! Thank You!
Thank you so much. In 2 days I learned a lot, and I happened to have a problem with my car that your videos helped me to solve. Didactic explanations, even a layman in the field would understand and can use to personally solve their mechanical problems👌👌👌
Your explanations of PCV and EGR are very good. Concise and easy to understand. I make parts for engine conversions, and always recommend that customers leave these systems as they were designed to be. However, I'm also sure that many of them don't understand the function and purpose of these systems. Would you mind if I include links to these videos on my web site?
I suggest on installing occ make sure it is ventilated well, i use occ just like you have but i make hole at the brass filter and put stainless steel wool., so far so good, make sure it is ventilated well. You’re right the shorter the hose the better.
Great presentation. 2:09 Willys Go-devil L134 for a 2 wheel drive application. This engine was one of the first to employ the PCV system on military vehicles. In the 1960's PCV's were added to civilian cars to control emissions. The PCV also prevents an engine backfire from traveling into crankcase.
My 1976 alfa romeo has a factory oil seperator can. It has a small hose from the can to the intake after the throttle valves. Them there is a large hose from the can to the a cleaner (this one take over when the throttle valves are open) There is also a hose going from the can to the dip stick tube for oil return and of coarse a large hose from the valve cover to the can. However there is no positive crankcase air going back Into the engine and there is also no pvc valve to regulate positive pressure. I assume this set up has constant vacuum.
I have a Polo 1.5tdi diesel engine. I have to remove the top plastic casing due to a breakage of a injector holder screw. I took out the screw and fitted it back. Everything is working good now. But so I have to use any paste and seal the plastic case to prevent any leakage in future. I haven't noticed any paste stains while removing. Another question is I found diesel on top of my injector holder. But when I removed that diesel and tried accelerating on a high rpm, I couldn't find any leakage on common rail, injector input pipes or injector return pipe. I tried accelerating the car while at rest few times but can't find any leak. I found this diesel after driving for 45mins. Could you please advise on how the leakage might have happened.
That's a lot of useful information. following up on my comment about OCC. My idea was to point the blowby exhaust down like you showed. Since it needs vacuum to be pulled out, what about if I did 3D printed OCC or just dump hose that would have a fan or something to pull the blowby out?
You enlightning me sir.... ill subscribe you.... 👌... Now I know the reason why my dad put the breather hose of his diesel truck into his exhaust pipe... 🤫 ... we dont have emision laws here...so its fine... 🤣 ....
sir its ok to take it out ah breterhose to intakemonifold down into the transmission diesel engine my car..thnx to advice me it is god or bad to the engine

Hi sir My 4d56 engine is good no smoking no hard start and no oils loss but I see some oil in the air filter box com from breather pipe why?is it normal or not and how can I fix and big thanks to you and sorry my English is not good
Sir i just bought a motorcycle v twin and oil is pumping through the crankcase vent, im thinking about installing a PVC at the end of the hose, is that okey ?
very very good explanation sir. but may I ask what makes more carbon build up? because of EGR or Crankcase gases? or by removing either 1 and it would reduce the carbon.
The crankcase ventilation system is the one that carries the oil vapour, which is where the carbon comes from. The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system then bakes on the carbon oil vapour in your inlet, because of the high temperature of the exhaust gasses.
@@cuvame Depending on where you live, it is generally illegal to vent straight to atmosphere (as it is untreated). Most people advise using an oil catch can (OCC). The OCC fits inline with the crankcase ventilation (CCV) system, so catches the oil vapour (which then turns back to liquid). You will have to periodically drain the OCC as it fills up over time (catches the oil vapour and crud that would normally be refed into the intake). As for it being better to remove the CCV, well it depends on which perspective you take. Dumping untreated pollution to atmosphere is a downside, however it does remove the issue with carbon buildup within the intake. I personally would go with an OCC.
@@terry9397 what I plan to do is using an OCC then venting it out hahaha thanks for the insight. But what bad effects does it make to the engine?? Will the excessive pressure of the crankcase destroy something in the engine? What I've read, as long as the car is moving, the pressure is being sucked out by the force of the car moving forward. That was my biggest fear. That the intake is a big part in sucking the pressure out of the crackcase.....
means you either have to try a higher viscosity oil as your pistons are warn slightly or damaged and letting burnt gas through where they not supposed to be. either a big job and alot of money or you could try higher viscosity oil to seal up as best as can or sell car
