Shane Burcaw (he/him) is the author of several award-winning books about disability. He is the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah Burcaw (she/her) graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog, which has over 800,000 subscribers on CZcams. Hannah has spoken at prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies alike about the realities of ableism. On her popular Instagram account, she advocates for acceptance of all people and works to improve the way society thinks about disability.
Shane and Hannah have been together for over four years. They got married in September of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic in their backyard, with their officiant conducting the ceremony via Zoom. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
Nothing is sweeter than watching Hannah put her hand behind Shane’s head when she is maneuvering the car. Such love and caring is beautiful to watch.

How can you NOT just absolutely LOVE going to Medieval Times!!???!! Maybe they are different at different places.
I went to the one in Kissimmee, Florida. It was an actual little castle with a draw bridge and a very large stadium and jousting ring. The food was served on metal plates and you drank from metal steins and ate without ANY silverware!!👌 The show was great and the food was great!
I am so VERY sorry that you did not have as wonderful of a time that I did. I went to Ft. Lauderdale, Disney World, Epcot right after it was built, and STILL Medieval Times was the absolute highlight of my entire 2 weeks in Florida. Which I might add, that when I left Ft. Lauderdale it was 82⁰ and I arrived home in Oregon, to a snow storm. I cried!! lol!! 🤣😂🤣

Hi! from 'Culver City adjacent.' The ability to be early in 'LA' is a combination of luck, allowing for the ever-changing traffic conditions and the learning alternative ways to one's destination. Sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Despite having moved from MN many years ago, am always cognizant of weather conditions back in Mpls. Can fully appreciate your not wanting to head back to those frigid, wintry temps.
I think the only way to be early anywhere in SoCal that requires freeway travel is to add an hour to the journey than what Google maps says. 😆 I usually just add 30-45 minutes if the trip would take at least 15 minutes normally if it's local. Ah, LA traffic, lol.
Hannah very lovingly cares for Shane,it's heart warming to witness,holding and protecting Shane's head,while driving ,to the loving things they both do for each other,it's a beautifull thing going on here,..enjoying following your journey from New Zealand.

The LA warmth was radiating off my computer screen. Greetings from frosty Boulder, CO. Current temp. -1. Great video! I Shane you are looking dapper in your new'ish' glasses. I was watching that episode of the Late Late Show. Aaron Donald was fun! I am sure the football fan in Shane enjoyed it as well.
Shane: All we have is brown and death. LOL. Shane, don't forget how beautiful summer's are in Minnesota, short but beautiful but I totally get it. Cold does hurt. In VA, there are 4 actual seasons that all seem to last about 3 months.

@@steveanderson1058 I totally agree about missing the ocean but I started out on this side of the country, moving to CA as a teenager, so it was easier for me to adapt. Plus I get to see beautiful deer like the 7 this morning while walking my dog. And I have family and friends out there, so I can get the best of both worlds.

We have on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia called " Australia Outback Spectacular " It has a meal included. Haven't been but friends have and they say it is awesome.

@@joycedominguez1828 While the majority of couples are both abled bodied and pretty matched in attractiveness, age, income, background etc, there are still alot of couples that are not. Most abled bodied people would sadly not date someone with a disability like Shane, there are still quite a few who whold. It's astounding to me that certain people have such low emotional intelligence that they would rather cling to conspiracy theories than face what they really feel; like inferiority that "someone like Shane" can be in a relationship with an attractive women, guilt that they could never see themselves dating someone with a severe disability, disgust at the idea of someone with such "abnormalities" being in a normal romantic relationship etc.

Their love isn’t “odd”, their marriage isn’t “odd”. Sure, it’s different from what we usually see, but that’s because we never get exposed to the hundreds of thousands of different types of relationships out there. The media doesn’t show us interabled couples, and as a result, people view it as “strange.” Shane and Hannah are doing a great job of changing this narrative and showing us that not all relationships have to look the same. I’m sorry your idea of what a standard relationship looks like is inhibiting you from seeing the beauty in this one.

I came to Los Angeles in 1986 from Texas never moving back our weather is amazing, I live near our Super Bowl Stadium Go Rams! Which is only 5 miles from the beach, so I do not have an air conditioner and rarely use my heater.

There has to be an attachment for the chair or the car seat to stop his head from going backwards when you drive. Im sure its second nature for you to put your hand behind his head at this point but worth looking into.

You know, its hard to fake truly caring for someone. The little things Hannah did without thinking about it while driving to make sure Shane's head is supported when the car was moving was awesome.
