Why do people think other commenters who don't share the same opinion as them are automatically 12 year olds who don't know what good music is?! And why do you think you can clarify truly what good music should sound like?! The original AND this cover are both incredibly amazing and sung beautifully by two amazing artists! Was addicted to A team when it came out. Quite enjoyed + when I had the CD and I love Thinking Out Loud, one of the best songs last year imo. This song just does not suit his voice whatsoever, think he could have chosen a much better cover. I think it would be hard however to find someone who could do a good cover of this song as the way Hozier sings is pretty unique (sorry for the long comment).

I've never heard of Ed Sheeran before, but as a Hozier fan, that was an absolutely brilliant cover (lol, look at me trying to sound British on the BBC channel).

Hozier has a higher voice than Ed Sheeran. You can tell Ed is singing at the top of his (chest voice) range here (especially in the chorus). Ambitious vocal for him but the character of Ed's voice shines in his dulcet tones with peaks of power - Thinking out Loud - perfect example.
Interesting considering hozier sings this song in a lower key live. Ed is singing it in the key it was originally composed. I have to hear hoz singing it live in its original key in order to compare. Otherwise I have to assume ed's range is higher than him

Personally feel the upbeat tempo does nothing for the song. Much prefer the original but the backing singers were an interesting addition. Giving it a bit of gospel flavour.

And why do you think you can clarify truly what good music should sound like?! The original AND this cover are both incredibly amazing and sung beautifully by two amazing artists! Ed isn't trying to displace it or make it better, he's simply singing it! If people feel it's better, it's their opinion. And if people don't like it, no one's forcing you to listen to it. I love both Hozier's and Ed's versions, they are both great, please stop hating Ed just because he made a cover in his own way
Ruined it in my opinion. Ed is talented but this sort of song doesn't suit him, seems like he's trying to make it cheery. Also what makes this song is Hozier's deep vocal power which unfortunately Ed lacks. Shame he did this imo

Shelby Garcia Yes he is, not a big fan as his music is not to my taste (don't love the tone of his voice, despite his voice being good). however I do love some of his songs. Was addicted to A team when it came out. Quite enjoyed + when I had the CD and I love Thinking Out Loud, one of the best songs last year imo. This song just does not suit his voice whatsoever, think he could have chosen a much better cover. I think it would be hard however to find someone who could do a good cover of this song as the way Hozier sings is pretty unique (sorry for the long comment).

Ismael Ybarra We never said that it's different. We said he didn't do a good job about making it different. If a cover is really similar and seems almost a carbon copy it isn't worth listening to. However some people alter songs and make them better or just as good but different. Ed made this song worse and kind of ruined it.

Hozier has a higher voice than Ed Sheeran.
You can tell Ed is singing at the top of his (chest voice) range here (especially in the chorus). Ambitious vocal for him but the character of Ed's voice shines in his dulcet tones with peaks of power - Thinking out Loud - perfect example.

Personally feel the upbeat tempo does nothing for the song. Much prefer the original but the backing singers were an interesting addition. Giving it a bit of gospel flavour.
it is a cover it is not supposed to be the same tempo
the original has a similar gospel-style backup (which on the recording is also Hozier--his range is ridiculous and he used to sing in Anuna)
