I think this video shows Ed's abilities as a musician. A lot of his songs are the typical 4 chord pop stuff but his lyrics, ability with a loop pedal etc, are where his strengths lie. It's like that phrase, something like "it's not about the tools but who uses them."
He was actually showcasing his ed Sheeran designed Looper pedals that are new on the block
Which is why his live looping performances are far better/more entertaining than his studio songs.
His voice sounds great. Lot of years of heavy abuse from busking to stadiums, always giving it all.
